This Afternoon (Ugh!)

Regal horned lizard hi-res stock photography and images - Alamy

I wonder if I could trade places with this lizard. He looks healthy.

I am weary. I feel weak. We went to the doctor this morning, I’ve had my cigar, and now I have to get ready for our daily trip to JFK Hospital. Yesterday we went all the way out there, only to be told the radiology machine wasn’t working, we might as well go home. I do hope it’s working today.

Chemotherapy continues, and then there’ll be a spot of immunotherapy (whatever that is), and after that, probably some surgery. Not exactly anything to look forward to.

I thank all of you who have offered up prayers on our behalf. Patty’s as worn-out as I am: she does all the driving, my car having given up the ghost.

Maybe tomorrow I can write up Tampon Tim’s so-called pheasant-shooting adventure.

And Utah’s scheme for guaranteed college admissions for all and sundry. That ought to be a sure-fire winner.

Pray for our country, too.

I think I’ll have some fruit gels.

Good News!

Doctor visit this morning, hospital this afternoon. The doctor’s exam revealed that the baddest of my two tumors has shrunk by roughly 40%. That’s with just short of halfway through the radiation/chemotherapy treatments. There’s still a ways to go.

This does not equate to calloo, callay, oh frabjous day. But it is an awfully good start. Please keep me in your prayers. “Smite the cancer, Lord!”

As for the prairie dog–well, I felt like seeing a picture of one. You could do worse than to have a guardian angel as vigilant as a prairie dog.

‘In the Name of Jesus’

Yes, I know I’m running late–but this song is worth waiting for: In the Name of Jesus.

I’d also like to request prayers for our friend and brother, Eldermike, who needs an operation for gallstones. He’s been here for us. Let’s all be here for him.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

‘Abide With Me’ (With Prayer Request)

We need each other’s prayers. Please offer up prayers for our friend and brother, Michael Riemer (“Eldermike”), who has been afflicted with chest pains.

Here’s a hymn he was trying to enjoy last night: Abide With Me, sung here by the Antrim Mennonite Choir.

Just Back from the Hospital

See that tree? That’s what I feel like, about now.

We’ve just come back from the hospital–and don’t ask me what the doctor said, what anybody did, or even what his name is… because my brain got lost somewhere. Suffice it to say I saw the radiation doctor and the experience was overwhelming. After all the things I heard were wrong with me, it’s a miracle I’m still alive.

(God help me, how I miss our cat!)

And tomorrow is some more doctoring, and then some more on Friday… and if you’ve got prayers for me, I need ’em!

Sorry I couldn’t be more specific. My mind has never been at all comfortable with medical stuff: can’t hold onto it.

Keep On Praying

Today I can sit down to a normal breakfast–no doctors’ appointments today. Hallelujah!

I know more than a few of you are, and have been, praying for me. I hardly know how to tell you how much I appreciate it.

But I want to take this opportunity to exhort more prayers, for more of our fellowship: prayers for Erlene, for Dave (Thewhiterabbit), and for Susan, my editor… just for starters. We need each other’s prayers.

We also need more young people joining up with us. Yo, 25-year-olds and younger! This old man is reaching out to you. Someone’s gonna be needed to take over here.

But in the meantime–pray! We can’t do without it.

‘Prayer Request: Our Country’ (2017)

Biblical prayer for healing of body and soul

Jeremiah at prayer

I prayed the Lord last night to give me sleep–it’s been hard to come by lately–and He did, which is why I’m so late this morning.

Infinitely more importantly, I pray Him to heal and save our country–rescue her out of the claws of the ungodly.

Prayer Request: Our Country

We are very much in a situation calling for all hands on deck. I know it’s been said before, but this time I think it’s for real: America as we know it cannot survive another Democrat presidency.

God commanded Jeremiah to stop praying for his country, Judah. Her sins were too many and too grave, and the repentance too thin and shallow (if there was any at all).

We have not yet reached that point. Pray hard that we never do! And work had for it, too. Work hard to stop it.

Prayer Request: Phoebe

I make an urgent prayer request for our friend and sister, Phoebe, who has suddenly come down with–well, I don’t know what and neither, at this point, does she. I have to be careful not to violate her privacy; but she has asked for prayers, and as far as it lies with me, she’s got them.

So please, everybody–pray!

O Father in Heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord and champion, please be swift to help and heal our sister, Phoebe, your faithful servant. She needs you now, O Lord! In Jesus’ name, protect her. Amen.

I’m Back (Mostly)

Don’t expect a lot of coherence from me, discussing this business: doctoring usually hits me with a brain freeze.

So I’m looking down the pike at a scan here, another somewhere else, this test, that test, maybe chemotherapy or maybe not, and, the climax–surgery. It’s very confusing. And it scares me.

(Big distraction when you’re trying to write a book!)

There’s nothing scheduled for tomorrow except physical therapy, so I can try for a normal work day.

There are quite a few people praying for me now, and believe me, I appreciate it! “The effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much,” the Bible tells us (James 5:16).

I’ll post a critter video after supper.

Sorry, No Politics Today

You’ll excuse me, I hope, if I don’t write up any nooze today. Not that it’s unimportant. I just have to take a break.

Oddly enough–very oddly!–I have begun to feel better. Maybe the Holy Spirit tapped me on the shoulder.

Patty and I took the afternoon off to watch Clockwise, John Cleese’s funniest and wackiest movie. A good laugh is good medicine.

Knowing that I have so many people praying for me is a blessing. Thank you all. It’s important for us to pray for one another. I’m glad that we can do it here.

Lord willing, I’ll come back a little later with a critter video.
