False Facts Raise Funds for Quokka U.

Fun facts about the Quokka, the happiest animal on earth

G’day and Happy New Year, everybody! Byron the Quokka here–as deputy provost in charge of something-or-other here at Quokka University. And I’m here to thank Acme False Facts Inc. for providing another fund-raiser for our university, a special False Facts card set, with half the proceeds going to Quokka U.

Here are a few samples from this special set of False Facts.

*The country of Spain disappeared for three days in July, 1888–and no one noticed.

*The Roman Emperor Hadrian had a pet squid named Dion who would do a soft-shoe routine on command. Said a visiting Pictish chieftain, “Who knew it could even be done on ten legs?”

*If consumed in sufficient quantities, Nabisco Shredded Wheat forces you to relive other people’s past lives. It does take an awful lot of Shredded Wheat, though.

*Highway No. 404 in Tajikistan takes motorists deep underwater in the Indian Ocean. No one has ever come back.

*In 1867 a baker named Postlethwaite, hired to create a special birthday cake for Napoleon III, missed so many deadlines that he brought on the Franco-Prussian War in 1870.

Remember–False Facts are even better than real facts, because no one can find anything to disprove them. But you have to speak them with conviction! Only then do you get a reputation for knowing things that no one else knows.

We are also selling season tickets for our pick-up sticks team. All we need now is a season.

The Next Step for Quokka U.

G’day, everybody! Byron the Quokka here, with an update on Quokka University–the great institution of higher learning that is being born before your eyes, right here on this blog.

Let’s see… So far we’ve got a Latin motto and beanies with propellers on them, which is a fantastically good start. But opinion is divided as to what we need next–a college cheer for our pick-up sticks team, or a college song for when we’re feeling sentimental, years and years after we graduate.

Just now we don’t have either one, because nobody’s written one yet.

I wonder if we need any input from you humans out there. Humans can be awful smart at times. Like the human who invented the whoopee cushion!

I wonder if there’s any way we could turn this into a contest…

We’ve Got Our Latin Motto!

Hooray! We’ve got a Latin motto for Quokka University! Every college needs one. We can put it over the door of every dorm and every lecture hall. And on sweatshirts, too.

G’day! Byron the Quokka here; and you’re here, too, every step of the way, as we create a brand-new modern university.

I never expected to get our Latin motto so soon. A quokka named Ernest suddenly came up with the idea last night while he was watching Get Smart re-runs, and he ran outside and yelled and yelled until the rest of us came out to see what all the fuss was about.

So here it is: the official Latin motto for Quokka U.

Ipso loquitur Mannimota!

Now, I can hear some of you asking, “But what does that mean?” Well, who cares! It’s a Latin motto, and every college has one. I don’t know what it means. Nobody here knows what it means. It’s just a cool motto, and you can’t have a university without one.

Next: Should we have an American football team, or stick to pick-up sticks?

G’day! Lee has to go sit around the doctor’s office this morning, so I’m in charge–Byron the Quokka, with a progress report on that college we’re probably going to start. That’s Cousin Weesha in the picture, giving me a kiss. Something tells me I’m going to wind up being sorry I let anybody see that.

We’ve already settled two of the most important issues! (Is that the right word?) First, the kind of hats we’re gonna wear. The kind with propellers on them. And also the name–“Quokka U,” which sounds really great when we all shout it. Imagine a stadium full of 80,000 of us all yelling “Quokka U, Quokka U!” If that’s not higher education, I don’t know what is.

Special shout-out to Marlene: Where have you been? Are you all right? Or did your stupid computer change your settings on you again, without you knowing it? I get uneasy when regular readers, whom I usually hear from every day, suddenly disappear.

The same goes for Bonnie, too. Stay in touch, guys.
