Musk to Germans: ‘It’s OK to Be Proud to Be German’

Germany, 1945: it still hurts.

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, says the German people should stop hating themselves (https://x.com/brittpettibone/status/1883259366557581348).

Musk seems to be worried, these days, about distinctive national cultures dying out. After a trip to Germany, he concluded that Germans were “conditioned” to blame their country for World War II and hate themselves for it. Is that why the German government does nothing while illegal Muslim immigrants swarm across Germany’s borders?

I don’t know. Half of my family is German. My aunts visited the Germans, and they came over and visited us, when I was a boy. There didn’t seem to be any animosity lingering from World War II. German was sometimes spoken in Grandpa’s house… and occasionally in our own, by my mother.

But we grew up as Americans. It was as simple as that.

Germany had a very rough 20th Century–World War I, World War II, the Cold War (remember the Berlin Wall?)–and healing comes slowly.

Let’s see if Musk can do anything to help.

‘Why Are People So Obedient?’ (Video)

The short answer is, most of us want to conform. It makes us nervous, to stand out from the crowd. There’s safety in numbers. So we conform.

And for those who would take away our freedom, it’s music to their ears.

Replace the blindfolds with face masks and you’ve got a typical sidewalk scene from 2020.

Y’know who knew this, top and bottom, in and out? Alan Funt, the creator of Candid Camera. How many times did he show us people trying to comply with silly rules he made up? Like “no stepping on the black linoleum squares.” Or “Backwards Zone.” Goofy stuff like that, patently senseless… and yet they complied.

Yeahbut! The bad guys will kill us if we don’t comply! Or at least throw us into jail, or wreck our businesses.

No one in his right mind denies that.

But the Soviet Union and the communist governments of its satellite states: those are all gone. The people stopped complying. Remember Lech Walesa–and Solidarity? It can be done! And without a civil war. It wasn’t a victorious army that tore down the Berlin Wall. It was the people of Berlin. The same people who used to get shot down by the East Berlin police if they got caught trying to flee to West Berlin.

There comes a point where violence is not strong enough to stand between the people and their freedom.

If liberty could have been wiped out, someone would have done it thousands of years ago.

‘They Still Like Communism’ (2017)

Nikita Khrushchev banging his shoe at the U.N. How quickly we forget.

I remember when Khrushchev threatened America, “Your grandchildren will live under communism.” He must’ve had a subscription to the New York Times.

They Still Like Communism

Two years ago, this alleged newspaper rekindled its long love affair with communism by celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, one of the chief calamities of the 20th century.

And last week an audience of Democrats booed Michael Bloomberg for timidly suggesting, “Communism doesn’t work.”

Have we forgotten how deliriously happy people were when their countries’ communist regimes collapsed, all over the world? There’s still China, North Korea, Cuba, and a few other places. But people rejoiced at the destruction of the Berlin Wall and the sudden death of the Soviet Union.

It wasn’t that long ago. Surely someone on the Times must remember it.

Unless maybe they all get their brains wiped from time to time.

Flee High New York Taxes–and Get Audited

He’s after your money.

They can’t afford to build a Berlin Wall all around the state of New York to keep people in, but they’ve been doing the next best thing: if you move out of New York to escape high taxes, they’ll audit you (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-york-goes-after-residents-fleeing-overtaxed-blue-state-for-low-tax-states-with-intrusive-audits).

Far Left New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo laments, “This is the flip side [of federal tax cut legislation]. Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich. We did. Now, God forbid, the rich leave.”

Duh–!

New York has a $2.3 billion budget deficit, and, in recent years, has lost 48,000 residents who fled the state’s high tax regime, where the top 1 percent pay nearly half the taxes in the state. Illinois, another Blue State paradise, has lost 45,000 residents.

“The rich” don’t want to stay there and get raped, so they leave; and New York pursues them with “intrusive audits,” calling them “defectors.” Iron Curtain, anyone?

But they can’t lower the taxes, because then the Democrat Party couldn’t dole out free stuff to its voting base.

If they could afford to build a wall, they would.
