‘Harry Potter’ Creator Defies Scotland ‘Hate’ Law

J.K. Rowling: Pictures Of The 'Harry Potter' Author ...

J.K. Rowling–will she become Scotland’s Public Enemy No. 1?

When I was a boy, the Iron Curtain cut off communist Eastern Europe from the rest of the world. It fell when the Soviet Union collapsed.

But now it’s being raised again–in Scotland.

And J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter books, has successfully defied it (https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-government-backs-jk-rowling-scottish-hate-crime-law-challenge-2024-04-02/).

Openly daring Scottish police to arrest her for the new crime of “misgendering,” Rowling listed ten “trans-women” celebrities as men–which in fact they are.

And the police backed down.

Scottish police officials say they anticipate many complaints regarding social media posts; but meanwhile, they’re not coming after Rowling. Apparently the next Harry Potter story won’t have to be written in a prison cell.

Furthermore, Rowling has pledged her support for anyone who gets charged with a hate crime for stating a common-sense biological fact.

Is J.K. Rowling the last person in Scotland who supports free speech? The only one who refuses to say things which are not true, but only demanded politically? And what kind of country do you have, wherein everyone must pay lip service to a doctrine based on a lie?

What would William Wallace do?

The New Iron Curtain

In the name of “liberation,” a new iron curtain has been lowered on the world and many Western countries are already confined within it.

Finland, billing itself as a “democracy” (how they can say that with a straight face…), a free country–has spent several years trying to send a member of its parliament to prison–yes, we said prison–for the following “hate crimes” (https://nowheadline.com/news/finnish-lawmaker-being-charged-for-expressing-her-religious-views-speaks-out-calls-the-case-dangerous/):

*A pamphlet she wrote in 2004, defending the Christian, Biblical view of marriage and sexuality

*Her appearance on a talk radio show in 2019, discussing her views on the above

*Tweeting a picture of the Bible. What? A picture of the Bible? A picture? Are these people quite in possession of their faculties?

Member of Parliament Paivi Rasanan faces two years in prison if convicted for “hate.” May I say that these fascists make it terribly hard not to hate them?

Also facing jail time is another member of Parliament, Lutheran Bishop Juhana Pohjola for publishing Ms. Rasanan’s pamphlet.

Finland likes to call itself a “democracy.” A United States congressman, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) called it “more like a woke theocracy.”

Finnish law establishes freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Finnish practice dis-establishes it. Honk if you’ve seen that done elsewhere.

I don’t know. I read stuff like this and it makes me think, “They’re gonna need a bigger Hell.”

Lest We Forget: the Hungarian Revolution, 1956

When I was seven years old, the people of Hungary rose against their Soviet overlords and tried to win their country’s freedom. The Russians sent in their tanks to crush them.

This sparked an exodus of Hungarian refugees, many of whom came to settle in our part of New Jersey, where there was already a Hungarian community in the city of New Brunswick. Some of their kids wound up in my class at school, or in our church. They didn’t seem to have any trouble fitting in.

But eventually the stories came out. My friend Peter and his family literally had to crawl under a barbed wire fence, guarded by Soviet soldiers with machine guns, to escape from Hungary. Quite a few of them didn’t make it. But they took the risk because they wanted to be free–and that meant some making it all the way to America.

Eventually we all heard those stories. The thing was, communism is a horribly oppressive and depressing form of government under which to live. These people had experienced it first-hand and wanted no more of it. They couldn’t afford to wait until the Iron Curtain finally crumbled, circa 1990. Hungary’s a free country now, thanks be to God.

But I wonder what the children of these desperate, brave refugees–children who are now in their seventies or even older–make of America’s current flirtation with socialism, led by the Democrat Party. They must think we’ve lost our minds. Why would we Americans ever want to live under conditions that other people had to crawl through barbed wire barricades to get away from? “Have you forgotten what we told you?” they might ask. “Did you think we made it up? Freedom is better than socialism! So much better, it’s worth risking your life to get it!”

Don’t hold your breath waiting to hear that in a public school these days.

Flee High New York Taxes–and Get Audited

He’s after your money.

They can’t afford to build a Berlin Wall all around the state of New York to keep people in, but they’ve been doing the next best thing: if you move out of New York to escape high taxes, they’ll audit you (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-york-goes-after-residents-fleeing-overtaxed-blue-state-for-low-tax-states-with-intrusive-audits).

Far Left New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo laments, “This is the flip side [of federal tax cut legislation]. Tax the rich, tax the rich, tax the rich. We did. Now, God forbid, the rich leave.”

Duh–!

New York has a $2.3 billion budget deficit, and, in recent years, has lost 48,000 residents who fled the state’s high tax regime, where the top 1 percent pay nearly half the taxes in the state. Illinois, another Blue State paradise, has lost 45,000 residents.

“The rich” don’t want to stay there and get raped, so they leave; and New York pursues them with “intrusive audits,” calling them “defectors.” Iron Curtain, anyone?

But they can’t lower the taxes, because then the Democrat Party couldn’t dole out free stuff to its voting base.

If they could afford to build a wall, they would.
