‘Blessed Assurance’

A classic Fanny Crosby hymn, Blessed Assurance, performed by Nathan and Lyle and friends in someone’s living room–See? You don’t need a studio, or all kinds of gear. Not if it’s done with love.

‘Beautiful Savior’

This was another favorite hymn in Sunday school–Fairest Lord Jesus, sung here by the Oasis Chorale. Background sets by God the Father… beautiful, isn’t it, God’s handiwork?

‘Onward, Christian Soldiers’

This is the first hymn that came to my mind today–Onward, Christian Soldiers, performed by the kids at Fountainview Academy. Sabine Baring-Gould wrote scores of 19th-century hymns; Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert & Sullivan, wrote the music.

‘Be Thou My Vision’

(Overslept! Hustling to catch up…)

This is one of the oldest hymns still being sung; it goes back to the Eighth Century, and hasn’t lost a thing–Be Thou My Vision, sung here by the Lebanon County Youth Choir.

Bonus Hymn: ‘How Firm a Foundation’

Having filled out the wrong box on the calendar, I missed my appointment with the eye doctor (it was yesterday, not today: only found out when I got there) and had to reschedule.

Meanwhile, I felt the need for this particular hymn at this particular time–How Firm a Foundation, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. I take these as prompts from Above.

(I am trying, Lord. Honest.)

Encore: ‘Jesus Saves’

Well, if we ever needed saving, we need it now! It used to be the ungodly merely wished to kill us off, applying violence against the Church. Nowadays they want to corrupt us to death.

Sing the hymns louder. It may be God will hear us.

‘Behold the Mountain of the Lord…’

Every villain on the planet is working overtime to drag us into Hell–they think they’re working for (WOL) “progress.” Monitoring the nooze is grisly work.

This hymn does me good, this ancient Scottish hymn: Behold, the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill. I think I’ll play it again.

‘Gloria in Excelsis Deo’

Hardly anybody here today, and no hymn requests…

Usually I save this hymn for Christmastime, but it ought to be good for any time–Gloria in Excelsis Deo, sung by the Libera boys’ choir. Why not?

‘I Sing the Mighty Power of God’

I never heard this hymn sung to this melody before; I would never have recognized it. But that happens with classic hymns.

I Sing the Mighty Power of God, performed by students from Fountainview Academy on their tour of Hawaii.

‘Amazing Grace’ (Fountainview Academy)

First hymn I spotted this morning–and how could I do better? Amazing Grace, performed by students from Fountainview Academy–if this doesn’t move you, better check and make sure you’re still alive.

The hymn shop is open for requests all day, all night…
