By Request, ‘Where No One Stands Alone’ (Elvis!)

Some forget, and some never knew, that Elvis Presley was a wonderful singer of the Gospel. Here’s one, requested by a few of you: Elvis singing Where No One Stands Alone. Elvis, we could have used some more of that!

Bonus Hymn, ‘One Pair of Hands’–By Elvis

Did you know Elvis Presley also sang a lot of gospel? And sang it very well, too.

Requested by Teddy, here is Elvis singing One Pair of Hands.

A voice like his doesn’t come along very often.

By Request, ‘Amazing Grace’

Requested by Thewhiterabbot. Amazing Grace, sung by Elvis Presley. He was so famous for his rock ‘n’ roll, it was easy to forget he loved to sing gospel songs, too.

I love this hymn with bagpipes, but my cat won’t stand for it.

By Request, ‘A Mansion Over the Hilltop’

I’d never heard this one before today, but I knew Elvis loved to sing gospel–A Mansion Over the Hilltop, requested by Janet.

Now we’ve got up a good head of steam for our hymn contest.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

‘Farther Along’

It’s easy to forget that Elvis Presley loved to sing Gospel. Farther Along is a classic Gospel hymn, sung in many churches.

Your Favorite Hymns continues, and it’s getting time to fill the cart again. If you have a favorite hymn or two, or half a dozen, that you’d like to share here, just let us know.

By Request, ‘One Pair of Hands’

Erlene asked for this one–One Pair of Hands, by Carroll Roberson.

There’s folklore out there that says this was also a “lost song” of Elvis Presley’s that was never recorded: not too hard to imagine that might be so. Easy to imagine Elvis singing it–which may be because of the way Carroll Roberson sings it.

Background sets hand-made by God the Father.

By Request, ‘Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee’

“Thewhiterabbit” asked for this one–Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee–and said I  could choose the artist.

Behind the ridiculous costumes, the Las Vegas gigs, and the sheer celebrity, everything I’ve read about Elvis Presley says he really meant it when he sang a gospel song. He could sing anything he wanted; and he sang the praise of Jesus Christ.

Elvis: ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’

I’ve figured out what my problem is. There are more Christmas carols than I have readers to request them. Meanwhile, “thewhiterabbit” has asked for O Little Town of Bethlehem. I hope nobody minds my opting for Elvis Presley as the singer. I pay no attention to his rock and roll. But oh, what a voice! And, by all accounts, a man who loved the Lord and didn’t mind using his God-given voice to praise Him.

Elvis Presley, ‘Peace in the Valley’

Our chess buddy “jessicafischerqueen” suggested this yesterday: Peace in the Valley, sung by Elvis Presley. Forget the rock-star stuff that made him famous. God gave him a voice, and Elvis used it–and he left us a legacy of hymns and gospel music.

P.S.–If this post appears twice, it’s not my fault. But you could always listen to it twice.

‘The First Noel’ (with Elvis)

This just about brought me to tears, it’s so beautiful–The First Noel, sung by Elvis Presley. Forget the silly costumes and the rock-‘n’-roll. God gave this man the voice of an angel, and he knew how to use it.

Now, folks, Christmas is coming up fast–and don’t leave the daily hymn selection to me and Erlene. We all have very much to celebrate, and good news to proclaim to all the world. Come, get into the spirit of it all! Especially those of you who haven’t yet requested a hymn. If this is your first visit to this blog, you can still request a hymn. So step right up!
