The Lizard That Flies

Check out how this little lizard escapes from the big, bad snake, who winds up highly confused and annoyed. The lizard’s scientific name is Draco volans, which means “Flying Dragon.” It lives in Indonesia and is one more example of God’s cool stuff which we call “nature” when we should be calling it “creation.”

I am showing this video to calm myself down after getting interrupted in my work by a summons to jury duty. I will have to get a note from my doctor to get me out of it: my blood pressure just won’t stand it. Up at the crack of dawn, central Jersey traffic, hang around the jury room all day long, and then more Jersey traffic. Repeat the process for as many days as the trial takes. And watch my head explode. No thanks!

I will now attempt to go back to writing my book.

Time to Relax: Happy Cats

I think we’ve had enough news for the day, don’t you? How about some happy cats, instead? Guaranteed to raise a smile.

The little character getting her belly washed reminds me of our cat, Peep–not that she would ever in a million years consent to such treatment. The ones on the spinning chair remind me of Peep’s sister, Robbie–who absolutely loves, loves, loves to be spun around on the computer chair!

Just some more of God’s stuff that really works.

Video Treat: Puppies Learning to Howl

Hey, it’s raining again, it’s Friday, my blood pressure’s back down to where it ought to be (we now think I bollixed up the monitor yesterday and got some crazy readings)–so how about a bunch of puppies learning how to howl?

Imitation is a great teacher, even if you’re a puppy being taught the fine art of howling by a human being.

If we had been creating the world, instead of God, we never, never would have thought of puppies. Thank you, Lord!

Sanity Break: Baby Goat and Playful Dog

You won’t believe how ecstatically happy this dog is over his introduction to this baby goat. You gotta hand it to dogs: they have a gift for joy. The goat is more concerned with trying to understand this new environment and keeping his feet–er, hooves–on the slippery wooden floor. The dog skids all over the place but is having too much fun to care.

Isn’t God’s stuff cool?

Video Treat: Your Cat Loves You

Think about this thing that God has done. He has made it possible–in fact, not at all unusual–for members of totally different species to love each other.

Would we have thought of that, if any of us had made the heavens and the earth? No way we would have thought of that!

You have to be in a bad way indeed, if being hugged by a cat (or fussed over by a dog) doesn’t soothe your soul.

God loves us by pouring love on us!

Very Rare Animal! Long-Eared Jerboa

Is this little guy for real?

Hi, Mr. Nature here, with something to wash out the bad taste of the last news report. You’ve seen jerboas (Old World jumping mice) before, but none like this.

The long-eared jerboa has never been filmed before, and we’re lucky to have this clip. When they say “long-eared,” they’re not kidding. I can’t think of any creature that has bigger ears than this, proportional to its size.

Are we sure we’re not looking at a special effect in a movie?

The work of God’s hands–endlessly wonderful and fascinating.

Sanity Break: ‘Pet Me’ Lemur

Watch what happens when these two little boys stop petting this lemur. I should say, “try to stop.”

What do you feel, when you compare man’s creations to God’s?

By Request, ‘Jesus is Coming Again’

Before taking on the day’s challenges in the news, let us fortify ourselves with a hymn–Jesus is Coming Again (1957), sung with verve by the congregation at Temple Baptist Church in Powell, Tennessee. Thank you, Joyce, for requesting it.

Now I think I’ll do some laundry and ride a couple of miles on my bike. Mustn’t let a lovely spring day go to waste.

Our ancient dogwood tree has blossomed, and the one old, old tulip we had is now a pair of gorgeous red tulips.

God’s stuff works.

Sanity Break: Squirrel at Play

Hi, Mr. Nature here!

I’ve seen this going on in my yard many, many times, but I still get a kick out of it–a squirrel playing with a stick. Maybe you’ve seen it, too. They do this when there don’t happen to be any other squirrels around to play with. This little game with the stick argues for imagination, intelligence, and a certain joy in living on the squirrel’s part.

God’s stuff works!

Amazing! Cat Adopts Baby Squirrel

Well, don’t that beat all! A baby squirrel falls out of its nest, the people put it in the box with the kittens, and the little fellow fits right in. The mommy cat treats it just like one of her kittens, loves it, feeds it, grooms it–and the  baby squirrel has learned to purr.

God’s stuff not only works. It works better than we can imagine.
