Bonus Hymn: ‘The Bible Tells Me So’

Wow! A pair of real celebrities who write and sing hymns?

Something told me, just now, to post this. When I was a little boy, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were mega-stars: they made movies, had a TV show, and appeared on lunch boxes all over the country.

Dale Evans herself wrote The Bible Tells Me So. It’s message isn’t complicated. But it’s well worth hearing.

[Anybody out there remember the name of Dale’s horse, on the TV show?]

‘The Bible Tells Me So’

Can you imagine this song being a hit today? The Bible Tells Me So–written by Dale Evans, sung with her husband, Roy Rogers (“King of the Cowboys!”)–was released in 1962. I remember hearing it on the radio. “Faith, hope, and charity, that’s the way to live successfully. How do I know? The Bible tells me so!”

Meanwhile, I’m vegetating in the doctor’s waiting room… and hoping a lot of you will browse the blog archives while you’re here and I’m there.

‘The Bible Tells Me So’

“Faith, hope, and charity, that’s the way to live successfully. How do I know? The Bible Tells Me So!” The Bible tells us that in I Corinthians 13.

This great old song from 1955, written by Dale Evans and sung by her with Roy Rogers, her husband, came back to me the other day as I was riding my bike and kept me company for a couple of miles. I remember hearing it on the radio. I remember it well.

Memory Lane: ‘The Bible Tells Me So’

Phoebe mentioned this 1955 popular song in a comment, and although I’m sure I hadn’t thought of it since then, I instantly remembered it. Do you?

I didn’t know, at the time, that the song was written by Dale Evans. I must’ve thought she and Roy Rogers only sang Happy Trails to You at the end of their TV show.

So here it is, Roy and Dale and The Bible Tells Me So. Go ahead, tell me that the time we live in now is better than the time we lived in then. Play me some gangsta rap.

Then duck.
