I’ve Been Reading My Books

The Glass Bridge (Bell Mountain, #7) by Lee Duigon | Goodreads

I’m in no condition yet to go back to writing novels, so I’ve been reading them instead. Today I finished The Glass Bridge. It’s Book No. 7 in my Bell Mountain series.

I’m doing this so I can refresh my memory. Fifteen of these books have been published–quite a load for any memory to carry. I don’t think I’m wrong if I say I’m proud of them.

Next, I have to type up No. 17, Ozias, Prince Enthroned; and after that, one more, from scratch: Ozias, Prince Betrayed. After that–well, I don’t know. It depends on what God will give me.

What to Write, What to Write…

Don't Get Stumped: 5 Ways to Beat Writer's Block — Kyle A. Massa

Hum baby, I am tired today! Nightmares all night long, most of them featuring unpleasant encounters with the hospital. I wanted to relax with a cigar, but the weather has turned ugly.

Really, though–the problem is, there’s so much C-R-A-P-O-L-A out there, I don’t know where to begin.

You’d swear Democrats were heartbroken over the destruction of Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

New York is running a Muslim socialist for mayor. See if you can guess which party has him as its candidate.

Transgender, anyone? Come on now–show your Pride.

Holy cow, I can’t even write this stuff as satire. If only it were.

Not Another Night Like That, Please

Yeah, it’s late, all right! I’m late.

I don’t know whether to call it a panic attack or a late-nite installment of Nightmare Playhouse. It featured doctors chasing me so they could perforate me. And other stuff too grisly to mention.

When it was time to get up, I had real trouble getting out of bed. Not that I consciously thought they were hiding in the bathroom, waiting to pounce and haul me back to the Not Restful rest home. I don’t know what I thought. (“We’ve been reviewing your X-rays, Mr. D., and guess what we found! Bubonic plague! Ain’t that a pisser?”)

Confound it, where’s my sword?

This lizard’s in better shape than I am.

I am still shaken up by that doctor’s pronouncement of doom on me, and it interferes with my thought process. It was only yesterday. Reach for the sky, boyo. Time to start lookin’ for a grave site. And so forth.

Meanwhile, I’m lucky if I can write anything at all. For those of you who crave Joe Collidge, Byron the Quokka, and Oy, Rodney–well, I’m sorry, but there just ain’t any oomph in me today.

‘One Wide River to Cross’

I’m sure I don’t know why, but I find a degree of comfort in this song. I’m looking at a wide river now. Will the Lord carry me across? And what will I find on the other side?

Father, if I ever needed faith, I need it now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

No one on the beach…

So the first doctor today said everything’s looking good; but then came Dr. No. 2.

I’m not going into details; they’ve already begun to turn into a blur. Suffice it to say the news was much worse than I expected. The grim reaper has me in his sights.

I’d better not say too much. But I thought my friends and readers ought to know.

And that’s all I can say for now.

‘ O Worship the King’

One of the first hymns I learned to play on my harmonica: O Worship the King, sung here by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

And now it’s time for me to run around seeing doctors and not getting any better.

More Doctoring!

This is going to be pretty skimpy reading today: I have not one but two! doctors’ appointments.

After which I’m thinking of just throwing in my cards and trying to take a nap.

Please pray for me.

‘If I had Words…’

I fell asleep this afternoon, I won’t be here tomorrow (at the freakin’ hospital again!) so I thought I’d say so, just so you know I’m probably all right (unless they make me disappear).

Here’s a song you probably know from Babe. Here it’s used as a hymn to celebrate God’s creation of heaven and earth and all things living.

It’s a reminded that can do us good.

I have a “Pet Scan,” whatever that is, scheduled for tomorrow; and beyond that, another consultation with some doctor or other (I can’t keep track).

This is hewing away at my sleep, and I do wish the rain would stop.

Keeping me stuck in a gurney for eight hours, and bringing a highly contagious patient into my room–not to mention blasting my sleep wide-open several times a night–these and other details, I’m not likely to forget.

Where am I going to wake up Wednesday morning? Are they going to shanghai me? Suddenly I find trust has become an issue.

I wish I had a bodyguard.
