‘He Who Would Valiant Be’

Presented by Chet Valley Churches, inspired by Pilgrim’s Progress, we have He Who Would Valiant Be.

Boy, oh boy, though. Here at Chez Leester our pilgrimage has been an endurance test, and uphill all the way. (More about that in the next post.)

What can we do but follow the Master? He’s the one who knows the way.

By Request, ‘O Happy Day’

When you ask for hymns, I post ’em–and we got a bumper crop today.

Requested by Susan: O Happy Day, Rev. A. Brown leading the choir, at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

By Request, ‘When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder’

Here’s another hymn requested by Ohio Chess Fan: When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder, sung by the men’s choir at the New Apostolic Church, South Africa.

I ought to post this hymn more often. What do you think?

Swedish Priest Rejects ‘Gay Vestments’

Clergy Stole, Vestment, Rainbow Pieced, Inclusive Pride ...

At least we know what they consider holy

A Swedish priest is under fire for refusing to wear “rainbow vestments” designed to, uh, “celebrate” the sin of sodomy (https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4331041/posts).

Actually, though, he’s getting a lot of support from social media users world-wide. The embattled pastor says the church has no business getting caught up in “momentary political trends and sexual advertising.”

It reminds me of another “crisis” in the Swedish Church, a few years ago, when a lesbian “pastor” (God help us) ordered all the crosses taken down because they didn’t represent “other faiths.” Then she put up signs pointing the direction to Mecca.

You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things…

So it’s one priest, Father Hakan Persson, against the fallen world. While we’re waiting to see what God does, let’s pray for this pastor.

‘Light of the World’

How about another one from Maddy Prior? Light of the World, written by Charles Wesley, sung by Maddy and the Carnival Band.

(It’s been as hot as lava today, and we’re bracing up for a thunderstorm. *Sigh*)

‘Down to the River to Pray’

I do love the sound of this old hymn, Down to the River to Pray, sung here by Alison Krauss.

I don’t think we have full-immersion water baptisms up here in the North. Our water isn’t fit for it.

Our loss.

By Request, ‘Master, the Tempest is Raging’

Requested by Phoebe: Master, the Tempest is Raging, sung by Life in 3D, presented by The Good & The Beautiful.

It should seem familiar. The Bible story that inspires it can be found at Mark 4: 35-41.

Note: We’re open all day for hymn requests.

‘The Son of God Goes Forth to War’

The Son of God Goes Off to War–sung here by Joe Stout–and we’d better believe it. Too much evil swirling round our chimneys, too much unholy passion in our streets!

But that stuff will not last forever.

‘Softly and Tenderly’

It’s only 10:30 and I’m already tuckered out. But let’s keep going, if we can.

Softly and Tenderly, sung by the Altar of Praise Chorale, background sets by God the Father: and maybe a nice long rest this afternoon.

‘Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven’

The choir of Westminster Abbey, the gorgeous stained glass windows, and the voices lifted up in song–Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven–what can I say but “Wow”?

You might want to play it more than once.
