By Request, ‘Do You Know My Jesus?’

Phoebe asked for this one: Do You Know My Jesus?, sung outdoors by four students at Fountainview Academy.

(Sorry I’m late! This computer FORGOT a lot of things while I was stuck in the hospital for six weeks. It took Patty some time this morning to reinstate our e-mail.)

By Request, ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’

Requested by Erlene: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, sung by Alan Jackson.

We’re holding space for hymn requests tomorrow morning. It’s supposed to snow. We shall see.

‘Shall We Gather at the River?’

So my day started around 4 a.m. with another trip to the emergency room. It turned out they didn’t have to do much, but I didn’t know that when I asked my wife to call an ambulance.

Today’s hymn just popped into my head: Shall We Gather at the River?, sung by students at Fountainview Academy.

I wish we had some of those little waterfalls here.

By Request, ‘This Train’

Wow! “This train is bound for glory…” I haven’t heard this spiritual since I was a boy at Y camp.

Requested by Thewhiterabbit: This Train, sung by Big Bill Broonzy.

Your Favorite OLD Hymns

Hail, Gladdening Light [From way, way back!]

What’s the oldest Christian hymn still being sung today? It’s not possible to know what for sure, because hymns and lyrics change over time. But the Joslin Grove Bible Society has offered this list of the top ten oldest (https://bestlovedhymns.com/blogs/reflections-71a102fb-7361-4a65-9767-1632ea9da65d/posts/7245408/the-top-10-oldest-hymns-still-sung-today)

Here are the top three.

*O Come, O Come, Emmanuel. An advent hymn from the 8th or 9th century.

*Hail, Gladdening Light. Third or fourth century, this Orthodox hymn might truly be the oldest on the list.

*The Day of Resurrection. Written by John of Damascus in the 8th century.

I’m surprised they left off the Irish hymn, Be Thou My Vision, that takes us back to the seventh or eighth century… but it wasn’t translated till early in the 20th.

Be Thou My Vision’

This ancient hymn from 8th-century Ireland still has power to stir our hearts. Sung here by Audrey Assad. Background sets by God the Father. Be Thou My Vision, still glorifying God after 1,200 years.

‘Not Compatible’ (Ya Think?)

We quote: “Being politically liberal and being highly religious are just not compatible.” –Ryan Burge, Political Science professor at East Illinois University.

Although he didn’t actually say so, I think he’s talking mostly about Christianity, and maybe Judaism. But if he were talking about “religion” in general, he’d be wrong.

Actually, liberals are extremely “religious.” It’s just that their religion is a form of paganism.

Thank about it. Who are more fanatical than Far Left crazies who say there is no God.? Who are more intolerant? Good grief! If you’ve ever tried debating any of these people, you know what it’s like to argue with a statue. Like, no God, but Transgender is holy and sacred and indisputable and how dare you, how dare you!, not support it with everything you’ve got? It’s hate speech, that’s what it is! Why aren’t these transphobic biggits in prison??? And so on.

God forbid our country should fall into their hands–and we have already come perilously close to doing so.

The Democrat Party must be destroyed.

‘This Train’

Rosetta Tharpe put something a little extra into this spiritual worship song, This Train. A nice way to start the day.

By Request: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’

Requested by Thewhiterabbit: Holy, Holy, Holy, sung by Audrey Assad.

We sang this a lot in Sunday school, and my mother used to hum it as she went about her housework. O good and beautiful normal times! How I miss them.

‘Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart’

Here’s another Sunday school favorite that just popped into my head–Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart. sung here by the Antipolo United Methodist Church.

We’re taking hymn requests today. I run out of energy early, this days, so help me along with a few requests.
