Now *That* Cat’s Special!

Here’s a cat who’s appointed herself the protector of a flock of chickens. She won’t even let them fight with each other. She sleeps with a couple of the baby chicks–and see what happens? They’ve imprinted on her! They follow her around. And if any stray cat manages to sneak into the chicken-yard–well, he’ll be sorry.

I’m sure my iguana would’ve done the same things if I’d provided him with a yard full of chickens.

Cuddle Your Chickens

This video is so sweet, you could plotz. I’m not kidding.

Look at how good, how affectionate these chickens are with these young children, some of whom are only just a little bigger than the chicken that they’re cuddling. You’ve gotta love the little boy giving his chicken a ride on a swing, admonishing the bird to “hold on.”

This has got to be so amazingly good for you, growing up. I’m convinced it’d be a better world if a lot more children cuddled chickens.

Funcky Chickens

They’ll play with dogs or cats or even people: chickens like a good time.

One thing they don’t appear to like at all is their reflection in a mirror. This is proof that chickens are not narcissistic. Which I’m sure is a relief to us all.

Cuddly Chickens

Until I started posting all these videos, I never knew how cozy chickens could be. They must make wonderful pets. My grandpa always kept chickens, and my mother had vivid memories of–well, you know.

And yet again the freakin’ phone rings, and you pick it up and say hello, and there’s nothing on the other end of the line–Grrrrrr!

When It’s Time to Feed the Chickens

This’ll be old news to those of you who’ve lived on farms; but it’s all new to those of us who haven’t.

So you call the chickens for their feeding time, and they all come running (I couldn’t possibly eat my chickens, if they came when I called), and the rooster crows–and along come the cats, eager to share in the chicken-feed. Suddenly we’re in the middle of a Freddy the Pig book.

My question is, what were they feeding the chickens, that the cats liked so much?

A Mother Hen and Her… What?

You won’t believe this video. And I’d better watch out, or I won’t be able to eat chicken anymore.

This hen has adopted a kitten. She broods it. And the kitten, if removed, crawls back under the chicken. Did you know God put that that much love in His creation, even in its fallen state? Whatever will it be like, once He regenerates it?

The only problem here is that the chicken can’t nurse the kitten. The participating human will have to do that. But someday that’ll make for quite a memory.

Cats as Chick Magnets

Well, here’s something you don’t expect to see–cats and baby chicks cuddling up together. Yes, I mean chicks with fluffy yellow feathers: not the kind that make you sit through a TV movie about Amy Fisher. The little cuddly kind that go “peep.”

Why are we seeing more and more of this, unlikely combinations of animals in peace and amity together? Was it always there, just waiting for a video boom? Or is God trying to tell us something?

Chickens and Friends

Well, okay, some of these interactions are not so friendly. But chickens have to get along with humans, goats, dogs, cats, and little kids who don’t want to give up their bag of tasty snacks. They handle all these situations if not with aplomb, then at least with chutzpah. And how many times do you see “aplomb” and “chutzpah” in one sentence?

Chickens Are Fun

When I was a boy, there were still a few people in my town who kept chickens. Grandpa had a chicken coop, but no more chickens. He had them years ago, and my mother had vivid memories of–well, let’s not talk about that.

I had no idea that chickens have so much personality. Dig the video of the chicken playing with two baby otters. God is giving us a glimpse of something here. I think He really is.

Bonus Video: Rooster’s Not a Cheepskate

At first glance it seems like the rooster’s hogging all the treats. But no–he’s giving them to these two hens. I’m beginning to feel like maybe my life needs chickens in it. Anyway, it’s a bonus video because the kitten flick was so short. Maybe you could call this a chick flick.
