We have a hymn request from Susan–I See You, by Chris Tomlin and Brandon Lake. It may make you want to jump up and down a bit.

Requested by Phoebe–In God’s Green Pastures, by the Voice of Eden, coming to us from southern India.
I really like the addition of the harmonica!
Requested by Erlene, When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder–and I picked this rendition by the students at Fountainview Academy.
I wonder what kind of acoustics you get with a lake surrounded by mountains.
Requested by Erlene, another Fanny Crosby hymn–I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer), sung by the congregation at Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. It might be a little hard to make out all the lyrics, but there’s something to be said for a church packed chock-full of Christians singing a hymn.
Anybody out there want to go for a third Fanny Crosby? The hymn shop is open.
We have a hymn request from Susan–I can handle that (I think!): Amazing Grace and My Chains Are Gone, sung together as companion pieces by Melisa Oretade.
Now I’ll try to report a nooze story. Bear in mind that I can’t see, just now. Seems appropriate somehow, don’t you think?
Before the whole thing turns into “What hymn contest? What’s he talking about?”, let me announce the winner of the contest. Drum roll, please.
On July 28, Ina requested I Saw the Light, by Johnny Cash, which received 21 views that day. The prize is–well, she already has the new book, The Wind from Heaven, but there’s still the cool T-shirt that says “If they have to kill us, they’ve lost.”
Ina, please let me know which prize you’d like to receive, and send me your mailing address.
Note: Just because the contest is over doesn’t mean we’re going to stop posting hymns and taking hymn requests. We’d love to post yours!
One of my favorites, requested by Erlene–Doc Watson singing What a Friend We Have in Jesus–almost brought to tears, too. This is a hymn that makes people pause and listen, if you whistle it as you go by on the sidewalk.
Hard to sing this without feeling it! I’m not sure that can be done.
Requested by “thewhiterabbit” (and I hoped I picked the right thing, I’d never heard this song before)–How Great Is Our God, by Chris Tomlin.
The hymn contest closes today.

Good grief! It’s already August 7, which means tomorrow Patty and I celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary.
And it’s also the day we close the hymn contest. So if you’re going to enter, do it now.
It’s easy–just request a hymn. The hymn that gets the most views on the day it was requested wins the contest; the reader who suggested it wins either an autographed copy of one of my books or this cool red T-shirt that says “If they have to kill us, they’ve lost.”
So far the leading hymn has 21 views/votes.
Requested by Erlene–In the Presence of Jehovah, sung by Terry MacAlmon at the Pikes Peak Worship Fest.
