Cats Do the Darnedest Things

Some of these activities are a little hard to figure out, if you’re not a cat.

But I do think I’d like to try that thing with diving into a cereal box and sliding across the floor. That looks like a blast.

A Few More Funny Cats

As we all sit here and contemplate our deploreableness, I think it might help pass the time if we had a few nice cats to watch.

As for the tortoise trying to take a bite out of the sleeping cat’s toe, I’m sure it looks like a little piece of fruit to him. Some reptiles see color. My iguana used to try to eat pictures of tomatoes or strawberries because all his favorite fruits were red. Color, yes. Three dimensions, not so good.

Bonus Video Treat: Cuddling Kittens

I stumbled over this video last night when it was too late to post it, so I saved it for this morning.

You just might want to see it again tonight before you go go to bed.

Sanity Break: Dreaming Puppies

I can’t say I ever caught any of my lizards dreaming, but my cats do it all the time. And so do these puppies in this video.

We humans have REM sleep, Rapid Eye Movement. So do puppies, as well as RFM (Rapid Foot Movement) and RTM (Rapid Tail Movement).

If you have RTM, you need to see either a doctor or a carnival manager.

Video Treat: Some Cuddly Critters

Sometimes I think dogs and cats and birds appreciate the blessings of civilization a lot more than we humans do. They seem to enjoy it more, at least.

Note the cat bringing in a rose to her mommy. Cats love to bestow gifts on people. If not a rose, then half a mouse, part of a bird, whatever…

Cats & Dogs: Chase Scenes

Our fuzzy friends are hunters at heart, and when they don’t have anything truly worth hunting–like a shadow, their own tails, a flicker of light, a jingly toy–they’ll hunt each other.

There is a few seconds in here of a cat catching a bird. Well, we all know cats like to do that. Happily, the camera didn’t pick up the gory details. But if you don’t want your cats to catch birds, mice, or harmless little snakes, don’t let ’em outside.

Video Treat: Confused Cats

Here are some cats who are mildly confused about certain things that really wouldn’t puzzle other cats–except for those bits with the printers. Most cats have a thing about printers. I’m glad mine don’t.

Don’t worry: no cats were driven crazy during the making of this video. Unlike, say, collidge students, the cats will get over their confusion.

This is Why You Need Round Doorknobs

Watch as cats open one closed door after another, often managing to let out the dog who was supposed to stay in, and letting themselves in where they were supposed to stay out.

All of these doors seem to have levers instead of doorknobs, and obviously a cat can figure out how those work.

If they only had hands with opposable thumbs, we would be totally at their mercy.

Beautiful Tiger Swallowtail

Hi, Mr. Nature here–and I just can’t let the summer pass without saluting one of my favorite critters, the tiger swallowtail butterfly. Happily, they’re not uncommon around here. I saw a nice one this morning.

The one in this video is a male. The females have a border of metallic blue spots along the bottom of their wings; and some females have black wings. I always thought that was another species, but I was wrong.

As man’s stuff continues to deteriorate, God’s stuff is still going strong-and this is one of the most beautiful examples of it.

It would be a sorry world that had to do without butterflies!

‘Engineers and Cats II’

By popular demand, here’s the sequel to “Engineers & Cats.” I know, some of you voted against it. But more voted for it, and give it a whirl–I mean how bad can it be? And it’s just got to be better than Jaws: The Revenge. And way better than Carnal Knowledge.

I have been trying to get my wife to watch Yongary, Monster from the Deep with me. She seems to be weakening in her resistance to it, but that only makes me suspicious.
