‘Draw Me Nearer, Blessed Lord’

It’s been a while since I posted this hymn–a real Sunday school favorite by Fanny Crosby: Draw Me Nearer, Blessed Lord. I wish I knew who was singing it here, but that information wasn’t available. Very nice, whoever you are.

We’re open for hymn requests all day, every day.

‘I Sing the Mighty Power of God’

Isaac Watts wrote this hymn in 1716, and it hasn’t lost a thing: I Sing the Mighty Power of God. Oh, this brings me back to Sunday school! It brings me back to family cookouts on a Sunday afternoon in June.

But mostly it brings me home to you, my Lord–to Jesus Christ, Amen.

‘Fairest Lord Jesus’

Patty wanted to hear this hymn–well, why not? It’s another one that can make your eyes fill up. Fairest Lord Jesus. We sang it in Sunday school.

Sung here by students from Fountainview Academy. Background sets by God the Father.

‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

This was one of my favorite hymns in Sunday school–Bringing in the Sheaves. Actually, I didn’t know what “sheaves” were. Did you have to let them out at night?

Sung here by the Islington Baptist Church.

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

I can’t keep my eyes dry when I listen to this hymn–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, sung here by Doc Watson. He can’t keep his eyes dry, either.

‘Trust and Obey’

Here’s a Sunday school favorite: Trust and Obey. Brings back sweet memories! S.E. Samonte has rounded up pictures that stir the soul.

‘I Sing the Mighty Power of God’

Isaac Watts wrote this hymn in 1715 and it’s still being sung today: I Sing the Mighty Power of God, sung here by the Mountain Anthems.

We are wide-open for hymn requests, everybody.

‘Yield Not to Temptation’

Our Lord Jesus Christ must be carrying me through this soul-trying time: I sure ain’t carryin’ myself.

Sing here by Calvary Free Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland, Yield Not to Temptation was one of my favorite hymns in Sunday school and I’m still loving it today. Maybe because I need it so much more, these days.

I hope can remember how to post it.

‘Yield Not to Temptation’

Here’s a hymn from the Garden State Baptist Church in Old Bridge, just down the road from me–Yield Not to Temptation, by Horatio Palmer. How often we sang this in Sunday school!

I pray Our Lord Jesus Christ will carry me over the finish line.

‘O Worship the King’

This is another hymn I played on my harmonica when I was a boy. (Note to self: Go back to doing that!) We sang it a lot in Sunday school.

O Worship the King, sung here by the Pilgrim Mennonite Mission, presented by S.E. Samonte.
