This was one of our Sunday school favorites: Yield Not to Temptation, written by Horatio Palmer in 1868. I’ve played it many times on my harmonica. Sung here by Phillip Carter.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, sung here by the Altar of Praise Men’s Chorale–how well i remember this from Sunday school!
I haven’t had many hymn requests lately, but what can I saw? The hymn shop is open 24/7.
I’ve always loved this Welsh hymn–Alleluiah, Sing to Jesus: also known by its native name, Hyfrydol. How we used to belt this one out in Sunday school! Sung here by the choir at Chet Valley Church. Background sets by God the Father.
This was one of my favorite hymns in Sunday school, and it’s still one of my favorites today, a zillion years later: O Worship the King, sung here by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
We are always open for hymn requests, should anybody make one.
Oh, this hymn brings back to me some good and sane and happy times! Trust and Obey: we sang it a lot in Sunday school. Oh, how I miss those times! When will the Father heal our land?
[We’re not late! Suddenly it’s Daylight Savings Time.]
I always loved this hymn: Christ for the World We Sing, by Felice de Guardini. I remember him from our Sunday school hymnal.
Sung by the congregation at the Church of Christ.
I don’t know which is better: to be in the church when everybody’s singing this hymn–Christ for the World We Sing–or to be outside on the sidewalk on a lush green Sunday in the spring, listening to it.
Both are awfully good.
This classic hymn by Fanny Crosby popped into my mind today–an old Sunday school favorite. Draw Me Nearer, Blessed Lord–ah, how that takes me back to sweet times! And the flowers on display: God’s handiwork.
It’s been years and years–50 at least–since I’ve heard this hymn, Living for Jesus. A Sunday school favorite, big-time. I woke up with it today. I can still hear Mrs. R, with her lovely reedy voice, singing this as she played the piano.
I’m amazed that I remember almost all the words. Thank you, Father.
This hymn was one of my Sunday school favorites: Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus. It came up as Susan and I were chatting on the phone, looking for a hymn to post. We didn’t have to look far, did we?
