‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

I loved singing this hymn in Sunday school, enough though I had no clear idea what a “sheave” was.

Bringing in the Sheaves, performed by Marshall Hall & Friends: and yes, I found out what sheaves were by the time I’d learned to play the hymn on my harmonica.

By Request: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’

Requested by Thewhiterabbit: Holy, Holy, Holy, sung by Audrey Assad.

We sang this a lot in Sunday school, and my mother used to hum it as she went about her housework. O good and beautiful normal times! How I miss them.

‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

Singing this in Sunday school as a boy, I kept wondering what a “sheave” was.

Here’s Bringing in the Sheaves, all confusion erased, by Shiloh Worship Music. The antique, sepia-tinted video adds to its charm.

‘We Have Heard the Joyful Sound’

Ahhh! This is one of my very favorite hymns: We Have Heard the Joyful Sound (Jesus Saves!), as sung at the United Reformed Church’s 2012 synod. That’s the Hudson River Valley in the background–beautiful works of God’s hands.

(Boy howdy, do I need saving!)

By Request, ‘Draw Me Nearer’

Oh, this is one of my Sunday school favorites! Thank you, Erlene, for requesting it: Draw Me Nearer, by Fanny Crosby. Sung by students from Fountainview Academy. I really ought to post this hymn more often. How it sweetens the morning!

‘Trust and Obey’

Oh, this brings me back to Sunday school! The springtime sun pouring through the windows, while we sang this–Trust and Obey, sung here by the Living Stones Quartet.  (The only quartet I know of with five singers in it.)

‘This Is My Father’s World’

(I had a very bad night and consequently I’m running late this morning.)

We learned this one in Sunday school: This Is My Father’s World. I don’t know who’s singing this version–but the photography is beautiful, showing the works of God’s hands.

‘Like a River Glorious’

Yes. I know I’m late. Can’t get a decent night’s sleep.

How about an old-fashioned Sunday school favorite? Like a River Glorious, with Nathan on the autoharp and Lyle on guitar… from Denton County, Texas.

‘All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name’

I had a bad night, this morning’s grey and dreary; but I have to say it was a lift for my soul, hearing this hymn: a long-time Sunday school favorite, All Hail the Power of Jesus Name. Sung here by Blue Mountain Mennonite Youth.

‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

I don’t know what put this hymn into my head–sheaves aren’t plentiful around here lately–but here it is: Bringing in the Sheaves, sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford. We loved singing this in Sunday school.
