By Request, ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’

All right, we’ve had enough nooze for one day. And we have a hymn request from Thewhiterabbit–Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (the good old stuff). I picked this rendition by Johnny Cash: most of us, I think, can sing along.

‘Trust and Obey’

This is such a beautiful hymn, an old Sunday school favorite–Trust and Obey, so beautifully sung but I don’t know by whom. Thank you, whoever you are.

‘This Is My Father’s World’

This old Sunday school favorite never fails to move me–This Is My Father’s World, sung here by Fernando Ortega. It reminds me, somehow, that every good thing I have ever known has been the gift of God the Father.

By Request, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ (Doc Watson)

This is an old Sunday school favorite, and not even Doc Watson can sing it without tearing up. Requested by Erlene: What a Friend We Have in Jesus. I sometimes whistle it when I walk, and people have been known to thank me for it.

Yes, we need Jesus. Oh, how we need Him.

‘Trust and Obey’

I just felt like hear this–an old Sunday school favorite, Trust and Obey. I do wish I knew who’s singing it–beautiful harmony, and background sets by God the Father.

‘Wonderful Words of Life’

No hymn requests yet: so I dip into my bag of favorites and come up with a good old Sunday school favorite, Wonderful Words of Life, played and sung by the students at Fountainview Academy.

How they get that piano into the woods is a mystery to me.

‘Trust and Obey’

No hymn requests this morning, so I’ll reach into my memory bag and bring out a Sunday school favorite–Trust and Obey. Sorry, but we are not told who’s doing the singing in this video. But we know who laid out the scenery, don’t we?

‘This Is My Father’s World’

I’ve loved this hymn since I was a boy in Sunday school–This Is My Father’s World, sung here by James Loynes.

“This is my Father’s world,/ O let me ne’er forget/ That tho’ the wrong seems oft so strong,/ God is the ruler yet.”

Amen to that!

Bonus Hymn, ‘I Sing the Mighty Power of God’

Several times yesterday, I found myself whistling this gorgeous hymn–I Sing the Mighty Power of God. It does touch my heart! And moves me to give thanks: every good thing I have ever known has been a gift from God.

Written by Isaac Watts in 1715. Sung here by the Mountain Anthems.

By Request, ‘Up from the Grave He Arose’

“Thewhiterabbit” asked for this one–Up from the Grave He Arose, sung by the Voice of Eden. It’s one of my favorites, brings back fond memories of Sunday school and family get-togethers on Easter Sunday. Not to mention it’s the best news this poor fallen world has ever heard…
