Another Thing God Thought Of, But We Wouldn’t Have

Behold the chuckwalla, a nice big lizard. The one in the video is enjoying a feast of chopped vegetables and cheeses that some thoughtful human provided him.

The chuckwalla lives in North America’s hottest deserts, where it eats bits of cactus. The chuckwalla is edible for human beings, a fact which has occasionally saved a life. When threatened, this lizard ducks into a crack in the rock and inflates himself, making it just about impossible to pull him out.

God creates the darnedest things. He creates them for His own pleasure. There aren’t enough people who get lost in the desert to justify the trouble of creating the chuckwalla. This lizard can be domesticated, but then you have the trouble of keeping him hot enough. Like most members of the iguana family, the chuckwalla is smart enough to adjust to you and become friendly with you.

No scientific committee would have ever conceived of a large, edible lizard whose primary defense is self-inflation. Science fiction writers never thought of it. For really cool ideas that no one else ever had, you have to go to God.

And this is Mr. Nature signing off… Enjoy your Sabbath rest, everybody.

Hymn, ‘Trust and Obey’

Here’s another oldie–and boy, if we ever needed to walk by faith, if we ever needed to trust and obey, we need it now.

Our country has been taken into captivity by the very persons to whom we entrusted her care and maintenance. Thus God chastises His people for pride and sloth and lack of love, for getting fat and forgetting Him. Now wicked and despicable people lord it over us.

Let us hold these hymns as we grope our way through the darkness back to God.

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

Let’s face it–we’re going to need a mighty fortress now, and the mightiest fortress is our God.

The wicked are dancing in the streets this weekend, but be advised: everything they have raised up, God will bring down. The hour of their destruction is already marked on His schedule.

Let’s see how mighty their fortress is, when God lifts His hand against it.

(Note the man in the back row, with the little baby in his arms.)

Hymn: ‘O, Worship the King’

This is another one of those old hymns that I love. I passed up what sounded like a Sergio Mendes & the Brasil 66 version in favor of normal people singing, with a piano.

But of course what really matters is to experience God’s presence. Open up. Let the music be as a hot bath after toiling in a cold rain. Let the words teach.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands…

God and Dinosaurs

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that God created dinosaurs. No one that we know of has ever seen one, and our interpretations of the fossils are subject to never-ending revision–but still, those great big bones had to fit together some way. Maybe someday we’ll figure out what any dinosaur was really like.

The difficulty is that dinosaurs are nowhere specifically mentioned in the Bible. Oh, and another difficulty–they don’t exist anymore.

We are, however, assured that God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, so that would include dinosaurs. We are also taught that God pronounced His creation good: therefor dinosaurs, at least in His eyes, are good.

I think you will agree that T. rex and his playmates would be a little much for us to handle. So God removed dinosaurs before the human race multiplied and spread throughout the earth. Again, the Bible doesn’t get into this. That doesn’t mean we can’t prayerfully consider the matter and use our brains for something more than cooking up mischief.

It’s my personal belief that God has put the dinosaurs somewhere else, where they can’t eat people, and where numbskulls can’t try to put them into an amusement park and charge money to see them. God has the entire universe at His disposal. Anything we imagine that limits His use of it is almost certainly wrong.

I look at the re-assembled bones, the paintings, the videos, the vast outpouring of human creativity and human reason and emotion evoked by these creatures, and can only marvel at the work of God’s hands. Dinosaurs also make me reflect on how much fun it must be to be God, and able to do things like this–makes it easy to imagine the pleasure our Lord must take in His creation.

What a blast He must have had with dinosaurs!

‘Onward, Christian Soldiers’

Before I write my Mother’s Day tribute to my mother, which might take me a while, let’s have a hymn.

We need more hymns like “Onward, Christian Soldiers.” It has fallen out of favor in our sissy churches.

What about the movie clip? What’s that?

In addition to offering a fine, hearty rendition of the hymn, the movie, Stanley and Livingston, celebrates Dr. David Livingston, who brought God’s word to some of Africa. I believe that one of these days Africa is going to bring God’s word back to us. We can already see that happening in Western Europe.

Onward, Christian soldiers! Belt it out! And if the liberals don’t like it–well, ain’t that just too bad?

Can You See This Video?

I’m having technical prombles today, so let me just try this. If it works, you’ll see a brief video of the angel-winged katydid. Relax and enjoy it!

Katydids are pretty, and they sing a cool song on summer nights. They are also part of God’s stuff, which always works–in contrast to our stuff, which hardly ever does.

Hymn: ‘This is My Father’s World’

The heavens proclaim the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork.

This is one of those ancient hymns you learn in Sunday school–if they’re not too busy bull-riding in your church–and never forget. The video is performed by Fernando Ortega. Here are the lyrics’

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears

All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.

This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought

Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,

The morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise.

This is my Father’s world: he shines in all that’s fair;

In the rustling grass I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere.

Pay special attention to this last verse–words we need to hear.

This is my Father’s world, O let me ne’er forget

That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.

This is my father’s world; why should my heart be sad?

The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!

God reigns; let the earth be glad!

There has never been a time, in my lifetime, when the wrong ever seemed so strong as it seems today. But God is the ruler yet: all the wonderful works of His hands, which we see everywhere, declare to us: “God is nigh.”

Fun With Videos: Mongolian Throat Singing

All right, all right–I’m having fun posting videos, now that I’ve figured out how to do it. Eventually the novelty will wear off.

Meanwhile, get a load of this–Mongolian throat singing. Is this cool, or what?

For those of you who’ve been reading my Bell Mountain books, this is what the Ghols sound like when they sing. Just close your eyes and imagine you’re King Ryons, riding with his loyal Ghols around him.

I am Entitled…

I am the greatest basketball player in the world, and I am entitled to be recognized as such by each and every one of you. Or else I’ll report you to the Human Rights Commission.

The video proves my claim–just watch! I’m the guy making all those baskets and blocking all those shots. Whoever filmed it mistakenly said it was Wilt Chamberlain when all the time it was me, Lee Duigon. Anyhow, there never was a Wilt Chamberlain. It was always me.

That’s a fact–because I say so. I am entitled to my own facts. And instead of writing me off as crazy, you should all be elbowing each other out of the way to curry favor with me. Build rest rooms specially for me! Allow me to use the women’s showers whenever I please. Invent new pronouns and force college and high school kids to use them. Above all, remember to call me “Wilt” and constantly praise my basketball prowess. Anybody who doesn’t is a bigot and a hater and an enemy of the human race.
