By Request, ‘The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came’

Requested by Thewhiterabbit–first time I’ve ever heard it–The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came, by Emmaus Music. This is an ancient Basque Christmas hymn translated into English in the 19th century by Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould… who rescued many old hymns from obscurity.

By Request, ‘The Little Drummer Boy’

Our seventh-grade home room was drafted into the chorus in time for a Christmas concern; and The Little Drummer Boy was one of the songs we sang. First time I’d ever heard it.

Requested by Ina: The Little Drummer Boy by Boney M.

By Request, ‘Away in a Manger’

Hooray! We’ve got Christmas carols today!

Requested by Phoebe, sung by Alan Jackson: Away in a Manger. Oh, this brings me back! To very early childhood, in fact. But that’s one of those things that Christmas does so well… Thank you, Lord.

By Request, ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’

We have a hymn request from Erlene–O Little Town of Bethlehem, sung by the Yoder Family.

BTW, our carol contest is totally open. Enter as often as you like; and if a carol has already been suggested, please feel from to ask for it again.

‘The Christian Christmas Tree’ (2018)

See the source image

Yes, it’s okay for Christians to have a Christmas tree–it won’t turn you into a pagan.

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/the-christian-christmas-tree-2

The Christmas tree, Mark Rushdoony explained in 2018, is an allusion to the Biblical Tree of Life–a key image in both Genesis and Revelation. The Tree of Life is Jesus Christ. We partake of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.

We don’t have to surrender Christmas!

Just keep the cat away from the tinsel.

‘Gesu Bambino’ (Pavarotti)

No hymn requests this morning, no entries in our carol contest… well, maybe this will help get us started: Gesu Bambino, sung by Luciano Pavarotti and Joan Osborne in a special concert in Modena, Italy–Pavarotti’s birthplace.

By Request, ‘How Unto Bethlehem?’

Requested by Phoebe (welcome back!)–How Unto Bethlehem This Pilgrimage of Kings, by the Robert Shaw Chorale.

I am reminded of a line of Chaucer: “Then longen folk to goon on pilgrimages…”

Let’s put our hearts into this Christmas!

By Request, ‘It Came Upon a Midnight Clear’

We have a Christmas Carol Contest entry from Thewhiterabbit–It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, sung by Anne Murray. (I couldn’t find it by Nat King Cole.)

Folks, we need this Christmas! We need God’s grace. Let’s sing with our hearts in it. Amen!

Carol Contest Update

Yesterday saw a new leader in our annual Christmas Carol Contest, with 22 views.

Only problem is, WordPress decided to identify that contestant as “Somone.” That is, Anonymous. That’s how things have been going around here lately. Crikey, what if “Someone” wins the contest?

The only solution is for a reader to request a carol and it gets 23 views, or more, the day it’s posted.

(Phoebe, please come back!)

By Request, ‘Joy to My Soul’

Requested by Erlene, Joy to My Soul, by the Greater Love Gospel Choir–and it’s the only Joy to My Soul that I could find, so I hope it’s the one you wanted!

(Raining sideways all morning, and I got soaked…)
