‘In the Sweet By and By’

‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

This was one of my favorite hymns in Sunday school–Bringing in the Sheaves. Actually, I didn’t know what “sheaves” were. Did you have to let them out at night?

Sung here by the Islington Baptist Church.

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

I can’t keep my eyes dry when I listen to this hymn–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, sung here by Doc Watson. He can’t keep his eyes dry, either.

‘Down in the River to Pray’

(I fell asleep briefly. It’s that kind of day.)

I really love this old-fashioned hymn, Down in the River to Pray. Sung here by Alison Krauss–with simplicity that touches my heart.

‘Praise to the Lord the Almighty’

Yes, I know I’m off to a late start. First I have trouble getting started, and then it’s trouble to keep going. Oh, well…

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty–this was another Sunday school favorite. It sounded even better when the whole congregation sang it .

‘Jesus Shall Reign’

Here’s one from Isaac Watts, c. 1715–Jesus Shall Reign (with echoes of Psalm 72).

Patty and I are still sick. Please keep the prayers coming.

‘Amazing Grace’

I haven’t posted this one in a long time, have I? Amazing Grace, sung here by Alan Jackson.

Patty and I are still sick, I don’t know how we’re going to refill her prescription… so pray for us, please, if you can think of it.

‘Trust and Obey’

Here’s a Sunday school favorite: Trust and Obey. Brings back sweet memories! S.E. Samonte has rounded up pictures that stir the soul.

‘Revive Us Again’

I woke up today with this hymn in my mind–Revive Us Again, a classic from 1867 by W. R. McKay. Here we have it by Nathan and Lyle, deep in the heart of Texas.

We’ll be posting hymns today… if we can get any requests.

‘Light of the World’

I find myself apt to growl this morning, and then snap–but that will never do. I think I need a hymn and some prayers.

Here’s one of my favorites: Light of the World, by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

Aaaaah… That’s better.
