The Attack of the Baby Sloths REPRINT

From January 10, 2020

THIS JUST IN: Ruthlessly wielding high-impact charges of irresistible cuteness, baby sloths have driven an entire Bigfoot population (Bigfeets? doesn’t sound quite right…) out of the rain forests of Costa Rica. Authorities have warned human tourists, “Don’t be there when they make those cozy wah-wah sounds–that’s how they get you.”

The ‘Citizen Kane’ of Furry Fun REPRINT

Both this video and Citizen Kane show scenes of subway cars full of people with owls. But then I haven’t seen Citizen Kane in a long time and I might be confusing it with some other classic film.

All the other animals in this video have fur instead of feathers.

Who’s That Knocking at My Door? REPRINT

From January 7, 2021

I think this must’ve been filmed through one of those fisheye lens peepholes in the door. Otherwise, the homeowner might have just opened the door when the doorbell rang.

But be fair! When your doorbell rings, how would you ever imagine it was… a bear? Since when do bears ring doorbells?

And those little figures he knocked down and played with–didn’t those used to be made of concrete? I remember them as being fairly heavy.

Moral of the video: Don’t be in too much of a hurry to open your door.

Kitten Cuddles Mouse (?)

Is this for real–or is it AI messing with our brains?

But the Bible says these things will someday happen: “The lion and the lamb shall lie down together,” Isaiah 11:6. Every now and then, God gives us a little glimpse of that. You should’ve seen my iguana cuddling up, on a snowy day outside, with his dog and cat friends on my bed. Three simple souls, in the innocence God gave them.

(I wonder if the mouse is actually a rat.)

Role Reversal: Deer Chases Dog

Enough is enough with all the medical stuff. Let’s take a break!

Here’s something you don’t see every day–deer chases dog. I get the impression that the dog just wants to play tag: but I don’t think that’s an assumption that the deer can’t afford to make.

Lizard Feeling His Oats (Cat Doesn’t Care)

The head-bobbing threat display is used by many kinds of lizards, mostly unrelated to each other, all over the world. I call that a mystery.

Here a young bearded dragon is trying to show a plastic doll who’s boss. He pays no attention to the cat until the cat pays attention to him. [Note: Human standing by to make sure no one gets bitten.]

Beware the Silent Snowman!

Sometimes animals respond to inanimate objects in funny ways. Lots of times they just ignore them–pigeons don’t seem to care whose statue they rest on.

Here we have a horse with her fan club (two donkeys) steering clear of a small snowman. The horse is very dubious about the snowman, and the donkeys follow her lead. The horse would rather go out of her way through deep snow than come too close to the snowman. Maybe it’s a holdover from the Ice Age.

But if your nose is a carrot, sooner or later a donkey will eat it.

Critters for All Occasions

I just had to post this–couldn’t resist the interaction between the German shepherd and the toddler. But that was only the first of several. Watch: you’re bound to find something you like.

Cat & Turtle (Eh?)

Our cat Henry used to watch our turtle, and our turtle watched him–convinced Henry would feed him. He had a kind of water dance he did when you were about to feed him, which we always did by hand. Alas, Henry just didn’t understand what was expected of him.

You Lazy Wolves

If one wolf howls, all the other wolves who hear it will howl, too. If you listen to this video carefully, you’ll hear wolves howling some distance away. But gee, guys–would it put you out so much, just to stand up when you howl?
