Prayer Request: John

[The computer conked out as soon as I started to type this, but we’ve got it back.]

We have a prayer request for Phoebe’s friend, John, 89, who has just gotten word that he has cancer: that’s all we know, so far. Phoebe and John and a few others are at their church early every morning to get it ready for the day. She tells us he’s a real prayer warrior… and Lord, we can’t afford to lose our prayer warriors.

Please, Father, be swift to heal your servant, John, so he can continue in his service and in his fellowship with your saints who are still here, working for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, O God, please hear our prayers–Amen.

‘Just As I Am’

This hymn was part of my childhood. My mother and my aunts used to sing it as they did their housework. Here it is again, sung by the Choir Masters Assn. in Chennai, India–Just As I Am (Without One Plea).

[P.S.–Please pray for us. We are looking for a doctor for Patty, and have to walk on eggs until we find one.]

Answered Prayers (For Erlene)

For those of you who missed it in the Comments, our dear sister Erlene is still with us. She had a stroke and has been mostly confined to bed all week–but she’s still here, and that counts for very much. Thank you, Father in Heaven. We pray now for Erlene’s recovery.

Meanwhile, please pray for my wife, Patty. She seems to have a hernia, and may face surgery. We won’t know much until a doctor can examine her.

Urgent Prayer Request (For Us)

My wife thinks she has a hernia, and she’s probably right. Now we need to find a doctor, and it may well mean abdominal surgery. I don’t have much to say: this has hit us hard.

Please pray for us (and don’t forget to pray for Erlene: we haven’t heard from her all week). Our little household here is all we’ve got left.

Oh Lord our God, have mercy on us.

Please, Lord Jesus, help us. Please, Lord Jesus, protect Patty and keep her safe. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Bonus Hymn: ‘All Glory Be to Christ Our King’ (Plus Prayer Request)

I don’t know–my soul cried for this hymn today, so here it is: All Glory Be to Christ, by King’s Kaleidoscope.

And please, everybody: we haven’t heard from our dear sister Erlene for three days now, so let’s pray that she’s all right and it’s only her computer on the fritz again. Please, Lord, protect her, bless her, heal her. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Request: Elder Mike

Still recovering from surgery, our friend and brother Mike has asked for prayers: he’s come down with another painful infection, he says (please don’t go to that surgeon ever again, Michael).

O Lord our God! Be good to your servant, Michael, who’s trying to recover from surgery and having a hard time of it. All healing comes from you, O God; please heal our brother. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Oh, This Day–!

We have to get all this Christmas stuff done, places to go, etc.–and the phone rings and it’s my stepdaughter. They had to euthanize one of their dogs last night. Not nice news. The poor dog was rapidly losing the ability to live with others: every little noise triggered her to attack the other dog. Fighting all the time, and fighting dirty, too. And Georgia had to deal with it all on a broken foot.

Stuff I have to write–but when? And the forecast is that beaucoup horrible weather will descend on us by Thursday. Oh, spiffy. Is our living room ready for a Christmas tree? That’s desperate sardonic laughter in the background.

Well, let’s start by going to the pharmacy to pick up Patty’s medications. And please don’t forget to pray for our friend and brother Mike, who needs to recover from less than perfect surgery. Please, Father–heal him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Request: Michael

Our friend and brother Michael (“Elder Mike”) needs our prayers. He had surgery not long ago, it wasn’t easy, and now his incision has opened and gotten infected. He was afraid something like this might happen.

Oh Lord our God! In Jesus’ name, and by the power of Jesus’ name, save and heal our brother, your servant Michael: bring him quickly to safety. All healing is from you, Lord: hear us when we cry to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Request: Georgia

Attempting to break up a fight between her two dogs, my stepdaughter, Georgia, wound up breaking her foot. She may or may not require surgery. Meanwhile, it hurts. Just another household accident.

Please join me in prayer for her. O Lord, your servant Georgia needs you now. Please heal her, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

‘We Three Kings’ (Plus Prayer Request)

Our brother Michael Riemer (Elder Mike) had surgery a couple of days ago; please join me in prayer for his recovery. Father in Heaven, we look to you to carry us over the dangerous ground. Please grant Mike a swift and sure recovery. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Requested by Michael: We Three Kings, sung by Hugh Jackman and friends for Australian TV. This rendition of the ancient carol never fails to stir my soul. I hope it does the same for you.
