They’ve Really Got Me This Time!

Imagine trying to run a blog when you can’t see what your readers have been reading! That’s where WordPress has stuck me today.

Oh, they say it’s not their fault, it’s a conflict (?) created by “the theme designers,” whoever the blazes they are. So what I’ve got to do, they tell me, is first reach out to WordPress, then reach out to the theme designers in another company, another world, and then reach back out to WordPress and they’ll “guide” me through a labyrinth of widgets and wodgets and Kris Kringle’s grandmother’s cuneiform primer…

Ye gods! I want them to fix it. I’m not into hi-tech DIY! I don’t do my own dental surgery, either. Bad enough the month of November saw me lose 30 to 50 percent of my viewership for no detectable reason. Now I don’t know what my remaining viewers have been viewing!

I’ve been calling this The Age of Nothing Works. I see no reason to stop calling it that.

Maybe later I can get Jill, my webmaster at Chalcedon, to solve this problem for me. She wasn’t in when I called an hour ago. I am not going to fatz around on my own and probably make things worse.

If it’s not too trivial to ask, please pray for me today. This is my work, and I want to do it.

Update: Jill has fixed the problem–hooray! I will say no more about it.

Prayer Request: Phoebe

Could we get behind our friend and sister Phoebe, and offer up our prayers? She has been confronted with some threatening health problems, she doesn’t yet know what they might mean–and that has to be quite scary.

O Lord our God! In Jesus’ name, and by the power of Jesus’ name, be swift and sure to help your servant, Phoebe. Protect her, Lord! Whatever healing she needs, please heal her. Be her defense… and ours. Take her under the shelter of your wings!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Cry for America

“The Spirit of ’76”–gone. But we still need it.

Sorry if this comes off as a rant, but sometimes I could just sit down and weep for my country… as by the waters of Babylon, Psalm 137.

The America that I grew up in is gone, covered over, drowned out by wicked nonsense. They stole our house and replaced it with a lean-to. When a governor (the unlamented Andrew Cuomo) says “America was never that great,” and a so-called president throws in “There’s nothing special about America,” it does seem we’re just about finished.

Look at our schools, if you can stand it, and universities. The dreck that comes pouring out of Disney Corp. Disney! The freaks and numbskulls who’ve been brought into our government. DAs who release violent criminals without bail. I can’t bear to make this list any longer: that would be the work of hours, and it would sicken my soul.

Pray for strength; we’ll need it. For courage, wisdom, endurance, and faith. Say prayers of repentance. Pray for God’s intervention.

Because I can’t see us getting much farther without it.

By Request, ‘Amazing Grace’ (with Prayer Request)

Requested by Katheleen–Amazing Grace, sung by Sounds Like Reign. Nice acoustics in an unused silo.

And please pray for Brazil, Katheleen’s country: another presidential election stolen by the Far Left. O Lord our God, restrain and confound them, and deliver us out of their hands! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Requests: Michael, Phoebe

Please, let’s all pray for our friends and esteemed colleagues, Michael (“Elder Mike”) and Phoebe. Mike had to have emergency surgery the other day: we’re thankful he’s still here to tell about it. And Phoebe is feeling… well, old, I guess. Not a pleasant feeling.

O Lord our God! We lift up our brother and sister in prayer, calling on your name, because you alone are our God… and as the hymn says, “I am the God that healeth thee.” We trust in your power and your love.

Please, Lord, deliver these your servants out of illness, out of danger, out of trouble. We ask for this blessing in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Our Latest Computer Disaster

Our computer hutch last week began to fall apart. I have it propped up temporarily with books, but there’s no escaping the fact that we’ll have to get a new one.

I’m afraid the whole thing will simply collapse in ruin if I try to move it. And behind the hutch is a Gordian tangle of wires–computer tower, monitor, speakers, mouse, printer, and God knows what else. No one has ever accused me of being a handyman, and this job looks utterly impossible.

I never dreamed there could be so many obstacles to simply writing a book.

Please pray for us. These little problems pile up into big ones.

Prayer Request: Erlene

Before we do anything else around here, I’d like to ask everyone to join in prayer for our sister Erlene, who’s had rather a bad week and needs healing. No one has been with this blog longer than Erlene–and we want to keep it that way.

O Lord Our God! Please, Father, be swift and sure to heal your servant, our beloved sister, Erlene, who has been sick all week. Please, Savior, heal her! In Jesus’ name and by the power of Jesus’ name, Amen.

Oh, This Day!

This is what our sidewalk looks like today.

I take Patty to the hospital for her rehab. Here, the tree service is camped in the middle of our parking lot, sawing down most of the trees. All right, some of them are in bad shape and like to fall.

Back to the hospital to take her home. The session has made her cheerful. By now they’ve got trunks and limbs all over the place, so instead of getting out of the car in the parking lot, Patty takes the sidewalk. Damn. It’s blocked by sawed-off branches. Going around it she slips and falls, making a mess of her elbow.

Now it’s started to rain. Thunderstorms are predicted. I can forget about getting any work done on my book.

We’ve cleaned up and bandaged Patty’s elbow. I offer to take her  back to the hospital. No thanks. To the local walk-in wellness center? No, she doesn’t want that either.

Please drop a prayer in the box for us.

Update: So we did decide to go to walk-in wellness after all, and guess what? No doctors or nurses working there today! I guess we’ll try again tomorrow.

Prayer Request: Mike

Please join in prayer for our friend and colleague, Michael Riemer, “Elder Mike,” who has a painful major health issue. We don’t know what it is, but we want him to know we’re praying for him.

O Lord our God! Be merciful to your servant, our brother Mike, and heal him: for all healing comes from you. Help us to entrust ourselves to you in faith, in Jesus Christ Our Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Request: Erlene

This is me making the request–because I haven’t heard from Erlene today. She works hard and sometimes it catches up to her. She was under the weather yesterday. Please join me in a prayer for her.

O Lord our God! Be swift to help and comfort, and heal, your servant and our dear sister Erlene Talbott. This is our fellowship, O Lord: we love each other, care about each other, and pray for one another. Please bless us by blessing our sister. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
