By Request, ‘A Moment in Time’

I can’t see very well just now, but I love to carry out hymn requests and I’ve got one from Erlene, so here goes–A Moment of Time, by Carroll Roberson.

Meanwhile, we have snow in our forecast and they’re closing schools all over New Jersey even though it hasn’t snowed yet and I’ll be flabbergasted if it does.

‘I Love to Tell the Story’ (Alan Jackson)

Well, I managed to fail in my first attempt to provide a hymn for Tuesday morning–which, if I don’t fail again, will be this morning, while you’re reading this… Oh, bother.

Here’s Alan Jackson with I Love to Tell the Story.

Companionable Mice

I once had a mouse who used to stand up on my palm and groom my mustache. I guess she liked it to look a certain way. When she had nine babies, she divided them into three groups of three and nursed them in turn. I know humans who couldn’t have thought of that.

Anyhow, mice make nice pets, intelligent and affectionate. The only down side is, they don’t live very long. If they did, the world would be overrun with mice and we humans would be their servants. Frightening to think of what a mouse could learn if it lived for 20 years.

‘Sound the Battle Cry’

Here’s one of those hymns that makes lukewarm Christians cringe–but the metaphor of Christians as soldiers goes all the way back to Paul (“Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier”, Philippians 2:25). So there. Sung by the kids of Fountainview Academy as they visit Prague in their European tour.

Sleepy Critters

You can’t beat hamsters for falling asleep, but the kittens in this video run a close second; and a lone chihuahua shows he’s definitely got hamster potential. We also have a bunny, foxes, and a bear cub who thinks his nose is made of rubber.

And suddenly I feel kind of sleepy, too….. zzzzzzz….

Excitable Puppies

Come to think of it, are there puppies that are not excitable? Not counting mud puppies, who have no effective way of showing their emotions. You wouldn’t catch them barking at their reflections in a mirror. But the puppies in this video will bark at anything. You might not want them doing that, once they’re grown up.

By Request, ‘Why Me, Lord?’

Thank you, “WhiteRabbit,” for requesting this gem! Johnny Cash’s declaration, before he starts singing–“Jesus Christ is Lord!”–is worth more than money can buy. Why Me, Lord?, written by Kris Kristofferson, marvels at the grace and love of God.

We can’t replace Johnny Cash, but we surely can follow his example.

Jesus Christ is Lord!

‘Soldiers of Christ, Arise’

Here’s another wonderful 18th century hymn by Charles Wesley–Soldiers of Christ, Arise–performed the old-fashioned way by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

If there’s anybody out there with a favorite hymn you’d like to share, we do requests. Just “Leave a Reply” anywhere, and we’ll do the rest.

The Cat’s in the Bag

Whenever you see a paper bag attempting to dance a hula, there’s probably a cat inside it. And whenever there’s no cardboard box handy, a paper bag will do as well.

Only, please, don’t give a cat a plastic bag to play with, any more than you’d give one to a toddler. Paper bags, perfect. Plastic–no. The cat gets stuck and winds up all upset, and apt to hurt himself trying to escape.

‘Wonderful Words of Life’ (Fountainview Academy)

Actually, I’m at the eye doctor’s as you’re reading this, but here, at the moment, it’s Friday morning. Got that?

Wonderful Words of Life, a Sunday school favorite, performed by the kids at Fountainview Academy… wonderful.
