Wow! Phoebe found one for us–The Boar’s Head Carol, first published in `1521 but surely older than that: “Giving praise to God we sing!” This rendition is by Steeleye Span with Maddy Prior.
Serving the boar’s head for a Christmas feast would probably send me running screaming to the sidewalk–but way back then, it was a glory. And glory’s very much a part of Christmas.

Should I Do Nooze This Week?
I’m tired! This has been a rough year–not many people can honestly say it hasn’t. The country’s a mess, Democrats are ruining it, the rest of the world’s no better off, and to me all the nooze stories are starting to sound like the same damnfool story endlessly repeated.
I don’t want to let go of Christmas. We need Christmas! Here I am, ready to post your Christmas carol requests. I’ve extended the carol contest to New Year’s.
I admit I’m afraid to see what happens to my viewership if I let a few days go by without doing any nooze. Oh, if there’s an article that forces me to write it, I’ll write it. I know what my job is. But if we could find things more edifying to talk about… well, that would be nice.
Maybe some book and movie reviews. I don’t know. What do you think?
‘Once in Royal David’s City’
One of our friends out there usually requests this carol, but so far this year he hasn’t, so I thought I ought to go ahead and provide it myself.
The carol contest is not over, everyone! We’ll keep it going till New Year’s. So if you haven’t entered a Christmas hymn request yet, now’s the time to do it!

Christmas Carol Contest: Extended to New Year’s
Well, I can’t just stop the contest here, can I? For one thing, there’s still a tie score. For another, the only carol that picked up 30-plus views was in a post from 2019.
And one more consideration: I estimate 90% of the hymn requests come from 5% of our viewers, give or take a few. Some of you just never post a comment. Some of you are new to the site and, I guess, bashful. And others are not into contests, not into prizes, whatever.
So…. we’re extending the Christmas Carol Contest to New Year’s. We don’t have to worry about running out of carols! We do need Christmas, you know. And this is a good way to celebrate it. I’m not overstuffed with Christmas carols yet. Are you?
