By Request, ‘O, God, Our Help in Ages Past’

Requested by Phoebe yesterday–but we got home from the hospital very late, and then the computer wouldn’t work–O God Our Help in Ages Past, sung by the Mennonite Bible Institute Singers.

We used to sing this in our assemblies at high school. I’m afraid to ask what they’ve got the kiddies singing now.

‘Behold the Mountain of the Lord’

Yes, all right! This ancient Scottish hymn–Behold the Mountain of the Lord, sung by Godfrey Birtill–has shown me what I need to do, to get through this day.

Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth…

Yes: Seek the Lord. Seek His help. Message received!

‘Trust and Obey’

Oh, this hymn brings back to me some good and sane and happy times! Trust and Obey: we sang it a lot in Sunday school. Oh, how I miss those times! When will the Father heal our land?

‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken?’

We have an instrumental of this good old hymn, performed by our dear friends the Swanson Brothers, Joshua and Jeremy: Will the Circle Be Unbroken? I found it very moving, even without the lyrics.

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

It’s been a while since I posted this: What a Friend We Have in Jesus, sung by Doc Watson. This hymn used to make me cry in Sunday school. It still works on me today.

‘In the Sweet By and By’

Joshua and Jeremy, you’ve outdone yourselves! This is just beautiful: an instrumental of a classic hymn, In the Sweet By and By. It brought a tear to my eye… yes, it did.

‘Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy’

Here’s another hymn I only heard for the first time–today, in fact. Brightly Beams Our Father’s Mercy, sung by the Mount Pleasant Quartet… atop a stone wall.

‘Draw Me Nearer’

A classic hymn by Fanny Crosby, we have it here as song by the choir at Technical University of Mombasa–all the way from Kenya.

Draw Me Nearer, Blessed Lord: it’s an old Sunday school favorite.

By Request, ‘In the Garden’

Before I totally run out of steam for the afternoon, we have a hymn request from Phoebe: In the Garden, by the Garment of Praise Quartet.

Gorgeous photography of God’s handiwork, and wonderful singing in harmony–you can’t beat that combination.

‘May the Mind of Christ My Savior’

Here’s a hymn I’d never heard before, tell now: May the Mind of Christ My Savior. Sung by the Joyful Singers, Calvary Tengah BT Church.

Do I have any hymn requests out there?
