Why I Fear for Britain

From February 18, 2016

I try to stay abreast of world events, but I pay particular attention to Canada and Britain. Canada, of course, is right next door. But why Britain? Because, like many Americans, I feel affection and affinity for the Mother Country: we are, as Churchill once said, two countries divided by a common language. But it also seems to me that the ills which affect Britain are common to all the Western countries, including my own; and that things that happen in Britain and Canada wind up happening here, too.

I have never been to England. I watch a great deal of British TV and movies, just about every day. I read a great deal of fiction by British writers, past and present. And I happen to think you can learn a lot about a nation by becoming familiar with its popular culture.

So I fear for the state of Christianity in Britain. What else am I to think, when episode after episode, in show after show, depicts Christians as at best irrelevant, at worst backward, evil, and dangerous? When actors like Hugh Laurie (atheist) and David Suchet (Christian) both say, in interviews, that Christianity in Britain isn’t what it used to be? Why should they lie about it?

As a Christian, I cannot think any good can come to a nation that turns away from Jesus Christ–especially a nation that’s been Christian for some 1,400 years.

Do I take TV shows and crime novels as literal truth? Of course not. Do I believe every article I read in British newspapers online? No, despite what you may have heard. And I do stay in touch with email friends in Britain and Canada.

From all these different sources, I’m getting the same message: Britain is rejecting her Christian heritage, and–like our own–her culture is coarsening, largely as the result of self-destructive leadership.

Of course, if you’re a fan of “gay marriage,” growth of government, multiculturalism, political correctness, speech codes, and all the rest–well, you’re getting it. In all the Western countries you’re getting all that stuff, and then some.

And so I fear for Britain, as I fear for my own country, and for the same reasons. We as nations have sinned, and we need to repent. Instead, our leaders draft and pursue policies which seem to be based on the principle that evil is good, and good is evil; and the people seem content to have it so.

But not all of us.

No, not all of us.

‘Authority’ Exercised by Idiots

From April 17, 2014

In the latest of a virtually infinite number of examples, wooden-headed school officials in Ohio are poised to destroy a student’s future because he had a penknife in his car. (Source: One News Now, April 16, 2014, “Attorney: School’s overreaction to pocket knife my destroy teen’s future,” by Bob Kellogg)

Because the presence of this three-inch long utility knife in his car violated the school’s robotic “zero tolerance policy for weapons on campus,” the 18-year-old spent 13 days in jail–think about that, please–and has been fitted with an ankle monitor. A real enemy of the people, eh? He has been charged with a felony and will go on trial in June.

Oh! But this is to protect the kiddies at the school from being massacred! Didn’t you see what happened in Pennsylvania earlier this month, when some crazy kid went on a rampage with a kitchen knife and stabbed and slashed a whole slew of his fellow students?

Only school policies didn’t stop him from doing that, did they?

Homicidal maniacs don’t hold back from shooting people because they see a “gun-free zone” sign.

These “educators” with their heads of stone are typical statist imbeciles and bullies, who think that if they can mangle and shred some harmless individual who has no intention of breaking any law, they’ve justified their existence for the day. For some reason real criminals simply ignore them, and real psychos are never going to pay any attention, anyhow.

The “zero tolerance” policies are only good for terrorizing the innocent.

They are also typical of the thinking behind the entire public schooling enterprise.

Please, please, please! If you have kids in the public schools, pull them out now! Don’t wait for the “educators” to have their way with them. You’ll be sorry if you do.

The Lost Tribes of the Whole Foods Parking Lot

From May 17, 2022

A s the actual community breaks down, a host of mini-communities, created artificially, springs up in its place. When we lose America, we’ll have a thousand fake “communities” instead.

It’ll be like one gigantic Whole Foods parking lot.

Our local Whole Foods has reserved parking space for all sorts of special people. Reserved for Parents with Small Children. Reserved for HOV (“high occupancy vehicles”) with Three or More Passengers. (Were they expecting the Beverly Hillbillies to stop by?) Reserved for Fuel-Efficient Vehicles. Reserved for Vehicles Carrying Heads of State Who Are Traveling Incognito.

If you took these signs seriously, you’d be a long time looking for a parking space.

In the broader scheme of things, each and every one of our mini-communities demands and expects to be appeased. Hence segregated housing and segregated graduation ceremonies at our colleges. Not imposed by any Southern Democrat, but howled for by the Far Left Crazy.

Reserved for Persons Who Resemble U.S. Senators With a Lisp.

I’m Reading ‘The Hunger Games’

Finally I’ve got a copy of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games. Published in 2008, it has taken four years to translate the book into the box-office champion movie of this year (so far).

The imaginary dystopian world of The Hunger Games has some features which I find disturbingly familiar: rationing of electricity and health care; manufactured food shortages; abolition of the right to bear arms; no one owns a car–but they do have high-speed rail! Jerry Brown would be so proud of them.

Also: no one has a right to travel from one “district” to another, and even if they were allowed, they’d have to walk; public schooling is the only from of education allowed; and the government has taught its downtrodden serfs to spy on one another.

All of these things are right out of the Agenda 21 “sustainability” playbook. They are all “progressive” dreams come true. When such dreams do come true, we quickly discover that they’re nightmares–but then, of course, it’s too late.

Welcome to Obummah’s second term…

I Thought This Was Fake, But It Isn’t

I received an email from Anna Derbyshire at Citizen Go describing a drag queen Nativity Show to be held in the church sanctuary of St. Michael’s Church in Little Rock Arkansas.

This abomination is scheduled for December 7.

If you wish to, please go to Citizen Go and sign the petition. You do not have to contribute.

How low can we sink?

Our Moral Imbecile-in-Chief

I really don’t like to do politics on this blog. But every now and then, one of our political leaders says something so base, so odious, so morally clueless, so crass, that I just have to comment.

This week the current occupier of the White House was the keynote speaker at a wingding celebrating–yes, celebrating–the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1974 Supreme Court decision that made abortion “legal” without benefit of any legislation. Fifty million slaughtered babies later, this is what our so-called president had to say:

“And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.”

Get it? Snuffing out your baby is how you fulfill your dreams! That baby is an obstacle in the way of your fulfillment, so that baby has got to go. Kind of like shooting the person in front of you in the checkout line…

Nothing must be allowed to interfere with removing this wicked man from office.

A Pet Peeve and a Question

When going through the apartment, I found several items that could be sold.  I carefully packed them up, and was all set to go downtown to the antique/coin/collectable store right on Main Street.

I decided to call and double check their hours of operation.

I found out they were no longer in business.

This is so typical of the Internet.  It is never updated (well, hardly ever).  I ended up wasting a morning trying to find other places close to me.  I am leery of driving out of my comfort zone as I won’t have new glasses until after I see the ophthalmologist.  Bottom line–waste of precious time.  Often, online you will find a listing that is completely outdated.  It is very irritating.

Second item–I have begun to notice signs in several places essentially telling people not to be rude, attack the staff, threaten, swear, spit and generally not do acts of general mayhem.  I know two were in the hospital, but I don’t remember where the other one was (perhaps a doctor’s office).

Has our culture gotten so debased that people have to be reminded to act like human beings?  I remember a line in Fawlty Towers where Basil asks his wife “Did you see the people in Room 10?  I don’t think they ever sat on chairs before.”

The culture rot of acting like an enraged spitting cobra every time things are not going your way seems to be becoming all-pervasive.  You can see any number of videos in fast food places where people are rioting because their fries were cold.

I really do not care for the way some things are going.

God bless everyb0dy

Lawsuit: ‘Sitting Next to Fatty Wrecked My Back’

This is from 2015

So you’re flying from Brisbane, Australia, to Dubai on the Persian Gulf, like halfway around the world, and you’ve gotta sit next to this fat guy who’s not only fat, but has a bad cough and fluid oozing from his mouth… (  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/11772741/Air-passenger-suing-for-a-back-injury-caused-by-sitting-next-to-obese-man.html )

Gee, this is getting gross. Sorry about that. But that’s the argument of this passenger’s lawsuit against an Australian airline. He says the experience gave him a back injury.

Yeah, I know: the world is falling apart, and I’m writing about having to sit next to some fat guy on an airplane. Well, it can’t be baby parts for sale all the time, can it? Remember when airline travel was, well… classy? People dressed for it. Just to be on the plane gave you prestige.

I am told it ain’t that way anymore. I haven’t been aboard an airliner since 1976, so what do I know? Back then, I didn’t see anybody barefoot in the cabin, or changing a baby’s diaper on one of those food trays, or any of those other sights I hear about.

Consider the fat guy on the airplane a cultural marker, spilling over into the adjacent seats, noisily coughing–a kind of sign-post on the road to cultural collapse. You shouldn’t even board the plane if you’ve got a bad cough and a contagious disease–but who cares about that stuff anymore? Like the supermarket checkout clerk who comes to work sick and coughs in everybody’s faces.

How that translates into a back injury, I don’t know.

Another Deranged Nooze Story

The Thing From Another World (1951 ...

(Here comes the Thing!)

We seem to be piling up bizarre and distressing nooze stories. Have people forgotten how to behave themselves?

This month in Danville, VA, a nut burst into a lawyer’s office and doused the occupant with five gallons of gasoline (https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/07/breaking-virginia-lawmaker-doused-gasoline-set-fire-his/). The victim managed to run outside, but the attacker caught him and set him on fire. By some miracle of Providence, the victim hasn’t died. Police have released very little in the way of information. Only that “the attack appears to be personal.”

So what’s going on? Is it just the social media jacking things up as they compete for views; or is our culture really melting down? You’ve got a problem with someone, so you kill him?

I just heard a website host ballyhoo his site for its “true crime” offerings, as if it were some form of entertainment. (“As if?” Hum baby!)

I think I’ll sit outside and try not to think about it.

[Why The Thing? Well, they set the Thing on fire, didn’t they? But that was before anybody realized you didn’t have to wait for a flying saucer to land before you torched somebody.]

Teens ‘Flock’ to Robot Companions

Talking doll hi-res stock photography and images - Alamy

We always knew they weren’t real. (Please say “yes.”)

Would you be alarmed if your 12-year-old spent all his free time holding phony “conversations” with an Al Gore hand puppet? (If your answer is “Heck, no–why should I feel alarmed?,” please seek professional help).

But! A new study says three out of four teens “flock to companion bots despite the risks” (https://www.idahocountyfreepress.com/news/national/three-quarters-of-us-teens-use-ai-companions-despite-risks-study/article_24e2510c-d8d6-5310-83ca-bb73e1e890e8.html). They make “emotional connections” (holy cow) with bots over other people, and discuss “serious matters” with robots rather than with other people.

The risk is, you’ll lose your connections with family and friends and invest yourself in pseudo-relationships with inanimate objects. We would think a 15-year-old boy very odd if he spent all his time talking to a plastic doll. (And no, it does not matter what he thinks it’s saying!)

Okay, sure: I had a teddy bear, and a nice yellow bunny. I was five years old. Nobody ever told me these were actual living creatures, nor did I come to that conclusion on my own. And even if I didn’t know they were dollies then, I didn’t carry them off to high school with me.

I wonder how many dolls have accompanied their owners to college.
