‘Morning Has Broken’

I never knew, until recently, that Morning Has Broken is a hymn–and quite a lovely hymn, at that. Here it’s sung by Orla Fallon. Don’t be surprised if it sticks with you all day.

‘I Need Thee Every Hour’ (in Welsh)

In Welsh it’s “Mae d’eisiau di bob awr,” and we know it as I Need Thee Every Hour. Don’t you find that if you know the melody, the hymn will speak to you no matter what language it’s sung in?

King Arthur and St. David would have understood these lyrics.

Bonus Hymn, ‘Draw Me Nearer’

I always post any hymn that really asserts itself in my mind, even if I don’t know why it should. This morning that hymn was Draw Me Nearer–a Fanny Crosby classic from 1875. I had a hard time finding a video that was simple and straightforward: so I’ve got this for you, from some little church somewhere. Thank you, whoever you are–that was the way I wanted to hear it.

‘Victory in Jesus’

I had never heard this classic hymn before–Victory in Jesus, published in 1939 by Mr. Barlett. Sung here by Burl Ives.

Bonus Hymn: ‘The Lord of Sea and Sky’

I heard this hymn this morning, played by a bagpiper on the steps of St. Francis Church, across the street–The Lord of Sea and Sky. I took that as a hint that I ought to post it. Couldn’t find it with bagpipes, but the National Youth Choir of Scotland is the next best thing. And the lyrics make you think of Samuel, and Isaiah–don’t they?

By Request, ‘In the Presence of Jehovah’

Erlene requested this, In the Presence of Jehovah, by Terry MacAlmon. I’m not sure my mouse picked up the right hymn: I’ll have to play it to find out.

‘Jesus Saves’

I first heard this hymn played as background music to a Civil War re-enactment, and I remembered it. The second time was at my father’s burial service, on the bells of a nearby church. It was one of my favorites before I ever knew its name–Jesus Saves.

Here performed by the kids from Fountainview Academy during their tour of Rome.

By Request, ‘I Surrender All’

Requested by Erlene–I Surrender All, by the Newsboys. This song has a great message, well worth remembering: “God doesn’t love us for who we are. He only loves us because of who He is.” What a world of fear that takes away!

P.S.–Will anyone mind if I short of duck the nooze today? There’ll plenty enough of it for us tomorrow, I dare say.

‘Trust and Obey’

One of my favorite hymns from Sunday school, Trust and Obey–this is for Evelyn, lyrics and all. I don’t know how many Vagle Brothers there are, but they do make a nice sound together–and oh! the background scenery. God’s handiwork is always present, always a gift.

Encore: ‘Gloria in Excelsis Deo’

I usually play this hymn around Christmas time, but really, it’s good for anytime–Gloria in Excelsis Deo by Saint-Saens, sung by the Libera boys’ choir. You can almost understand the Latin lyrics, if you just relax and listen.
