R.J. Rushdoony, ‘Capitalization and Decapitalization’

R.J. Rushdoony–he didn’t need a crystal ball to see the future.

I know the title is a little dry and the essay is a long one, but stay with it. R.J. Rushdoony wrote it back in 1967, and it’s still as true as ever. Maybe even more so.

“Capitalization is the product of work and thrift,” he said; and these are the product of character. Specifically Christian character. But “socialism is organized larceny,” and its result is decapitalization–more need, less money!–and not only inflation and want, but also a deterioration of character itself. “Things which were once intolerable and forbidden are now openly promoted and sponsored,” Rushdoony wrote. Can you say “transgender”? We go from secret, hidden vices to abominations openly performed.

As our culture, our character, deteriorates, so does our productivity. The inflation that we face today, the worst in 40 years, is exactly what Rushdoony would have predicted.

We can’t just let it all keep going as it’s going.

Our esteemed colleague “Unknowable” has raised this issue lately in several comments. Just getting rid of the Democrat Party and slapping down the fake nooze  media, he says, will not treat the root cause of our problems–an across-the-boards deterioration of our national character. This includes our penchant for “near-worship of celebrities.”

I think it’s important to recognize that our nation’s character has been debased on purpose by persons who are easily identifiable: the Democrat Party, the nooze and “entertainment” media (sort of a tautology), and teachers’ unions and other wicked “educators.” If we could somehow break them up and strip them of their power, they wouldn’t be able to carry on their mission to corrupt the country.

Things are done now that would have been utterly unthinkable when I was a boy. So why are they thinkable, and doable, now? Because certain people worked very hard, for a long time, to make them so. They never took “No” for an answer. No matter how many times they were defeated, they kept coming back–like the freakin’ Mummy. If one tactic didn’t work, they tried another. That’s how they finally got “gay marriage” intruded into our culture, through the Supreme Court. More specifically, through Justice Anthony Kennedy. They only had to swing one guy, and they got what they wanted. All other tactics had failed them. Even California voters turned it down. But they found the one judge who would give them what they wanted.

Yes, our national character needs re-Christianizing. We were a good country because we were a Christian country. D. James Kennedy once said that the most unserved mission field in the world was the churches in America. I’m afraid he was right.

Well, no one can say God didn’t give us enough work to keep us busy.

The ‘Everybody Does It’ Defense

Return with me, if your stomachs can stand it, to those balmy days of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

There were two main lines of defense keeping this churl in office. One was “It’s the economy, stupid.” But the other really got to me: this idea that Clinton needn’t be blamed for his sexploits in the White House because–speaking of adultery–“Everybody does it.”

So there I was at the YMCA, and I challenged a whole locker-room full of men who were invoking this defense of Clinton. “All right, let’s just see about this! There are twenty of you here, and I don’t know your names, so I can’t possibly rat you out. Thus you have nothing to lose by giving me an honest answer. How many of you have actually committed adultery?”

And one hand went up. Just one. “So everybody doesn’t do it, then, do they?”

It goes to show how a reprobate for  a leader can undermine the moral tone of an entire nation.

What’s wrong with us, that anyone would even consider putting Hillary Clinton in the White House? She’s so crooked that when she dies, they’re going to have to screw her into the ground. How many other presidential candidates have been the subject of two–yes, not one, but two–ongoing FBI investigations in the middle of the campaign?

Have we really and truly sunk so low?
