Amazing! Cat Adopts Baby Squirrel

Well, don’t that beat all! A baby squirrel falls out of its nest, the people put it in the box with the kittens, and the little fellow fits right in. The mommy cat treats it just like one of her kittens, loves it, feeds it, grooms it–and the  baby squirrel has learned to purr.

God’s stuff not only works. It works better than we can imagine.

Sanity Break: Cats and Parrots

The title of this video is Funny Parrots  Annoying Cats. The mystery here is why the cats allow the parrots to annoy them. Somehow these birds know that these cats won’t really hurt them, even if they peck at the tail or steal the cat’s food. I know parrots are awfully smart, but how did they ever figure out how far you can push a cat and get away with it?

Cats Saying ‘Hello’

Since the glory days of the Indus Valley civilization, certain people have tried to teach their cats to talk. Perhaps this accounts for the collapse of the Indus Valley civilization. I mean, my cats can say “Meow” and that’s about it.

Anyway, here are a bunch of cats trying to say “Hello.” A few of them come fairly close to doing so. It is widely believed that Goethe had a cat that could say “Gesundheit,” but I’m afraid I cannot prove it.

Video Treat: Baby Sloths

My wife has always been head over heels in love with baby sloths. What I want to know is, how do you wind up getting a job cuddling baby sloths and watching them learn how to climb? That’s gotta be a real stress-buster.

Go ahead–tell me you don’t think these babies are big-time huggable.

Video Treat: Lazy Cats

I have deleted the video of the kitten in the tubful of water. Some of you thought it wasn’t nice. Having watched it again, I yield to your judgment.

Here, instead, are lazy cats who have found ways to drink water without troubling themselves to get up. Sounds like some people I know.

Wild and Crazy Little Guys: Jerboas

Here’s what happens when you leave jerboas unsupervised. Although probably it happens when they’re supervised, too.

Jerboas are long-legged jumping mice that live in the deserts of Africa and Asia. We have kangaroo rats in our deserts. What is the connection between the desert lifestyle and jumping?

Beats me.

Sanity Break: Cats Acting Like People

Don’t worry–it’s not about cats lying, running for public office and then betraying the cats who voted for them. Cats will never learn to imitate the finer points of fallen humanity.

But they can imitate certain things they see us do. My cat Henry used to try to horn in when I was playing Strat-O-Matic Baseball; but his idea of the game was to flip the little plastic men to the floor and bat them under the bookcase, and I couldn’t have that. You should have heard the back-talk he’d give me.

Anyway, let’s unwind. Join me in enjoying these cats.

Sanity Break: Cats and Babies

You would think a lot could go wrong with that combination, but cats seem to hit it off with babies. Both may be smarter than they’re given credit for.

Sanity Break: Guilty Cats

I feel the need for a cat break.

Here are cats that show every sign of being upset when they’ve been caught doing a no-no. Watching the one cat shred the roll of toilet paper, I wonder whether Mt. Vesuvius has been unjustly blamed for the destruction of Pompeii. Maybe it was cats.

More Funny Cats–Hooray!

Once again we turn to our cats for a dose of sanity.

This red cat in the sink reminds me of our cat, Buster–who once managed to turn a pair of my wife’s panties into a kind of toga, and then posted himself in the living room window for everyone to see.

I must admit he never balanced a Q-tip on his nose, though.
