The Edmund Hillary of Hamsters

Admit it–if you were a hamster’s size, you’d never get up this flight of stairs, not if your life depended on it. I knew someone once who was as small as a hamster, and he just couldn’t manage stairs.

But watch this little guy! He doesn’t just climb ’em; he climbs ’em fast.

Dogs Doing Inexplicable Things

It’s a total mystery to me why dogs can’t carry long sticks through narrow openings. I’ve seen parrots and parakeets solve this problem easily, but dogs can’t even come close. Maybe Lassie could’ve been trained to do it, but I doubt she would’ve figured out the solution for herself.

If only our pets could tell us what they think they’re doing.

Now I’ve Seen Everything (Cats & Birds)

Another little peek at what the restored Creation will look like, when the Creator is finished with it.

Cat napping with one, two, three… four parakeets.

A crow patiently feeding a cat and a dog, morsel by morsel. I know crows are smart, but holy moly–!

And a cockatiel guarding a sleeping cat.

Why Cats Make Nice Pets

What–nicer than wolf spiders? Well, yeah–even nicer than wolf spiders.

No excitement, no comedy here. Just some of those moments that make us love our cats. If you don’t have one, think about the things that make you love your dog, your hamster, your iguana, or whoever. Every animal brings something special to us humans.

Listen to Your Bulldog

If people listened more attentively to bulldogs, they wouldn’t wind up locked in some scary room with a haint in it.

For some reason I can’t begin to guess, bulldogs seem to watch more horror movies than other dogs do. And they react very strongly to what they see. Maybe they should stick to Laurel & Hardy.

Cute Little Pikas

This has got to be the cutest animal in North America–the pika. Bigger than a hamster, smaller than a rabbit, the pika is related to a man named Rudolph Zipple. Uh, check that–they’re related to rabbits. They live mostly in the Rocky Mountains, in boulder fields above the tree lines: “The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make their houses in the rocks” (Proverbs 30:26)

Is There a Hamster in the House?

If you think this video of a hamster exploring a dollhouse isn’t sufficiently exciting–well, a little imagination can fix that. Simply imagine that it’s a real house, a house for humans, and that the hamster going up and down the stairs is really that big. A gigantic huge hamster. Imagine a hamster as big as a pro wrestler scampering up your stairs.

As for the giant hand… Try to ignore it. Maybe it’ll go away.

When a Cat Gets Stuck for an Idea

I selected this video because it includes an episode of a cat getting stuck in a dollhouse. I had never seen that before, and had no idea that it was even possible.

My Aunt Florence, when she was a little girl, once got her head stuck in a bed frame and Grandpa had to take the thing apart. I wonder if this dollhouse met the same fate.

Little Birds with Big Personalities

I’ve always had a soft spot for parakeets. Maybe it’s the way they keep falling into glasses of water. Or trying to hitch rides on tennis balls. They give the impression of being willing to try just about anything once. And they play. I like that in an animal.

Two-Fisted Cats

You’d think cats could tell a real animal from a stuffed toy. But cats have been with us a long time, and I think they’ve begun to get kind of peoply. So maybe they aren’t so sure of what’s real and what isn’t.

But I’ve watched this video twice, and I’m convinced some of these cats know perfectly well that the stuffed toy isn’t real–but are peoply enough to play along with the gag.
