‘Victory of the Cross’

Sing it loud and sing it long! This is Jonathan Lewis with Victory of the Cross.

Take it out from behind the pews and into the street, fight for the Cross of Jesus Christ–remembering at all times that our weapons are spiritual, not carnal, for pulling down the strongholds of the Enemy.

Prayer Request: Joyce

Our friend Joyce has been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes, and is in need of our prayers.

Joyce, take heart! Cataract surgery these days is little short of amazing. It can be done right there in the doctor’s office, quickly, and you walk out with your eye working just fine. My wife has had the surgery in both eyes, and the only hard thing about it was remembering to follow the schedule for the eye-drops afterward.

Father in heaven, please bless our sister, Joyce, and restore the sight of her eyes, as Our Lord Jesus Christ did so many times during His earthly ministry. And please allay her understandable fears. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Note: Whether He does it spontaneously or through physicians, all healing comes from God. We know that and give thanks for it.

Cat Watches ‘Psycho’

Sorry, but I really couldn’t resist this!

Who says cats can’t understand what they see on television? Here is a cat watching Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho–that climactic scene in which harmless old Mrs. Bates, sitting in the cellar in her rocking chair, is discovered to be a… ugh! a mummy!

Thanks to Tami for emailing me this priceless cat video.

Some of Aunt Joan’s Life

Since so many of you have been praying for her, and she seems to be out of danger for the time being, I thought it only fitting that I ought to tell you a little more about my Aunt Joan–the last of my family in her generation.

Back in the 1950s and early 1960s, when hardly anybody else was doing it–in fact, you could get famous for doing this, if you wanted to–Joan and her sisters, Gertie and Millie, were world travelers. I mean, they went everywhere! And it was always an event when they came back with stories and a slide show. I’ll never forget the tale of how they wound up stranded at the Black Cat Cafe somewhere in Uganda, way back when, examining the varied and exotic wildlife that had taken up residence in their salad.

Joan, Gertie, and Millie got jobs as young women, fresh out of high school, which they kept for their whole working lives. How common is that anymore? They always had ample summer vacation time–especially Joan and Millie, who worked for school districts–in which to stage their travels.

It’s just too bad they didn’t keep journals. It was a very different world, that they traveled, and they knew it better than just about anybody.

Pope Threatens to Excommunicate God

“The Blind Leading the Blind” (1568) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder

Having just declared that Catholics ought to apologize to “gays” ( http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2016/06/27/pope-church-gays-treatment/86425734/ ), it only remains for Pope Francis I, aka Comrade Pope, to say that God ought to apologize, too.

If there were any truth to this story which I am making up to make a point, the Pope would chide God Almighty for “Creating us capable of all sorts of sexual pleasures, you name it, and then not letting us enjoy it! Like, how mean is that??? Saying the only sex you can have is within a marriage–a man and a woman, no less! How dreadfully uninclusive! I mean, really, God has got a lot to answer for! And He had better straighten out, like real soon, or I’m gonna excommunicate Him!”

Now it is true that sinners sin, and that we are all sinners, some tempted this way, others tempted another way. Our problem is never with the sinner who struggles, and on his own is just not strong enough to achieve righteousness–which applies to every single one of us.

Our problem is with those wicked individuals who declare that their sin is not a sin, the Bible is wrong, God is wrong, and you’d better join them in “celebrating” it, or else. It is not the sin that’s the problem, but the out-and-out rebellion against God’s plainly stated word.

But I think it would surprise me to hear that this Pope ever reads the Bible.

‘I Love to Tell the Story’

It’s not only the greatest story ever told. It’s also the most important story ever told–of Jesus and His love.

I don’t know who these singers are, but they’re pretty amazing.

Aunt Joan Has Recovered

Just got a call from the hospital: they are discharging my aunt tonight, sending her back to the nursing home, because she has, for all practical purposes, recovered.

Thank you all for your prayers. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

Reader’s Prayer Request

Please send up a prayer for Erlene, who had two teeth pulled the other day, one of which was abscessed, and is hurting from it. We all know how that feels, and wish we didn’t. Please, Father, grant her relief: in Jesus’s name, amen.

Why Is This Cat Happy?

With a truly impressive display of what President Kennedy used to call “vigah,” this cat leaps to the top of a folding door, inches away from the ceiling. And once he’s up there, he’s purrin’ and rubbin’ and happy as can be.

Not that anyone has ever figured cats out–but what’s so great about the top of that door? My cats get happy when I share my langostinos with them, but I doubt that any door could ever turn them on like this.

Explain it if you can!

Remember–We Post Prayer and Hymn Requests

Just a friendly reminder that if there’s a favorite hymn you’d like to see posted on this blog, so you can share it with others, all you’ve gotta do is ask. Just post your request as a comment, and I’ll do the rest.

And, as a new feature, we will also post your prayer requests–because, after all, it’s beneficial to have others praying for you and with you. Again, post your request as a comment, that’s all you have to do.
