Oops… No Magic

It was a little kid who pointed out that the Emperor had no clothes.

Some things just don’t change.

Nora the Cat: Pianist

I’m sure some of you already know Nora, the piano virtuoso who is also a cat. My wife has a Nora the Piano Cat coffee mug. Alas, we don’t have a piano. Anyhow, Nora has become sort of famous by playing the piano. If you’re as crazy as we are, you’ll learn to recognize her style. Sort of somewhere between Van Cliburn and Buster.

‘A Safe Stronghold’

From my “playground player” chess forum, courtesy of my friend “optimal play”–A Safe Stronghold, performed by the Scottish Festival Singers.

And I’m sitting here thinking, “Gee, this sounds familiar…” Duh! Well, it should! It’s Ein Feste Burg, which we Americans are used to translating as “A Mighty Fortress.” Anyway, I have thanked him for the hymn and decided to share it with you.

‘Be Thou My Vision’ (Norton Hall Band)

Be Thou My Vision has been one of my favorite hymns ever since I first heard it, as a boy. But it’s a lot older than that. This Irish hymn is from the Eighth Century. Think about that. It was 300 years old when William the Conqueror set sail for England. And it can be performed with modern instruments and still lose absolutely nothing in the translation–as proved here by the Norton Hall Band. I would very much like for this particular hymn to stay with me all day today.

More Cats & Babies

I tag these videos “Sanity Medicine” for a reason. There’s so much insanity around; and the cellar is flooded with wickedness. But this is God’s stuff. It’s good. It’s sane. Cats and babies, and a little glimpse into what the Lord has in store for us, when he restores and regenerates Creation. And all that bad stuff will be gone. Forever.

By Request, ‘The Will of God is Always Best’

“Thewhiterabbit” requested this hymn, The Will of Good is Always Best. We have it courtesy of the Good Shepherd Institute, and I wish I knew the name of the singer, so I could thank her for this beautiful, soothing rendition.

‘Owl Be Seein’ You’

All right, how do they do those things with their necks? It would be kind of unnerving if a human did it. I guess owls like to see things from assorted angles. It’d be interesting, if they could tell us what they think of what they see.

‘He Leadeth Me’ (Fountainview Academy)

Here’s another Sunday school favorite, He Leadeth Me, performed by the kids from Fountainview Academy, British Columbia. during their visit to Hawaii.

There are a lot of you who are new to this blog, and I want to invite you to ask for your favorite hymns to be posted here. We like to start each day with a hymn. So if you have one you’d like to share, just let us know.

Very Unusual Kittens!

Someday the lion will lie down with the lamb. In the meantime, this cat lies down with three ducklings. Not only that: it’s a momma cat, with kittens, and she suckles the ducklings! And we may safely ignore the narrator’s “scientific” explanation of it.

These kittens and ducklings are going to grow up to be very unusual cats and ducks.

‘Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee’

The sun is out this morning. It’s been wet and grey so long, we hardly know what to think when we see sunshine. All in all, a perfect opportunity to praise and thank Him who made the sun and hung it in the heavens.

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee: music by Beethoven, sung by the Libera Boys Choir at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
