A Prayer for God’s Mercy

I really didn’t want to write this, but I think I have to.

O Lord our God! I had a fearful thought today: as you once appointed Nebuchadnezzar to burn Jerusalem and take your people Israel into captivity, as punishment for their sins–have you appointed today’s Far Left Democrats to scourge America for her sins? Have you thrown us into the hands of wicked and ungodly men?

Your anger is righteous and just: we confess our sins, our sloth, our folly. Our churches, far too many of them, have gone along to get along. We have made a shambles of our culture. And now our national elections, in which we foolishly placed our trust, have been stolen; and we are in the hands of our enemies, who intend to “fundamentally transform” our country–into what, we scarcely dare imagine.

Lord! In Jesus’ name, for Jesus’ sake, we plead for your mercy. We understand–at least some of us do–that we are entirely dependent on you.

We plead with you, O God, to have mercy on our country, to save us one more time. Abate your anger, Lord, and relent! Deliver us once more, and give us time to repent. Save us, Lord, not for our sake, for we are sinners, and our sins have brought us to this desperate crisis: not for our sake, but for your own great name’s sake: so that the world might see your mercy in action, even at this late date; and that the world might know that you are God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Prayer for Our Country

christ-king (With images) | Christ the king, Christ, Jesus images

We have no king but Jesus Christ.

Please join me in prayer for our country.

O Lord our God, we are in a bad way and we won’t get through this evil time without your help. The wicked run wild, convinced their time has come and that they can win by crime and violence, lies and subterfuge, what they could never gain by lawful means.

Is this how America is to be governed from now on–with rioting, rage, and tyranny?

We have sinned, both wickedly and foolishly, and who could blame you if you turned your back on us? We have followed not only false prophets, but insane and foolish prophets, too, and gained nothing by it but trouble. Nevertheless we call upon your name, we plead for your protection.

Exert your strength on us, O Lord, and pull us back from the brink of self-destruction. Open our minds, open our hearts, and bring us to our senses. Lead us through the door of national repentance and turn us, O God: turn us back to you, and cause your face to shine; and then we shall be saved.

In Jesus’ name, for Jesus’ sake, Amen.

I am Confused (About This Election)

I suppose in the end it will be obvious: vote for whoever the Republicans nominate, or else get Hillary and kiss America goodbye. Unless she gets indicted first.

I think we have been here before.

First I was for Cruz, then for Trump, and now it’s I dunno. There’s something about the Cruz campaign that makes me uneasy. As for Trump, how is that anything but a crap shoot?

I was for Cruz because I thought he was a real conservative, if there is such a thing anywhere in our political class. I was for Trump because I passionately detest the Republican Party leadership and want to see it kicked down the stairs. But in the meantime, the partisans of both Cruz and Trump are tearing down each other’s candidate so badly that it may not be possible to repair the damage in time to keep Mrs. Bloody Awful out of the White House.

I have a soft spot for Ben Carson, but, gee–now he wants to do away with the Electoral College, the only thing that keeps the country from being ruled forever by a couple of Democrat machines in large, incredibly corrupt cities in a handful of states. Anyhow, he’s not running anymore.

O Lord my God, if you’re thinking of intervening in America’s national life just about now, I think it’d be a very good time for you to do so.
