I’m Back

I’m back–and I’m bushed.

I got all pumped up, doing that webinar, answering all sorts of questions about writing in general and my books in particular, yak-yak-yak a mile a minute (hopefully to good effect) until I just about plotzed. And then I had to sit down and write my weekly News With Views column… and suddenly it’s almost 4 p.m.

And I still have to squeeze in a bike ride before supper.

You’ll pardon me, I hope, if I don’t get around to blogging about politics today. But I should be good for a critter video or two, a little later on.

Meanwhile, the sun’s coming out–so off I go.

**Sneak Preview Alert**

Image result for sneak preview

I’ve seen the cover art for The Throne (Bell Mountain No. 9), Kirk DouPonce has done another splendid job… and if I can swing it, I’d like to post it here so you can see it.

I’m hopeful that The Throne will be made available in time for Christmas. My books, by the way, make fantastic Christmas gifts. Well, all right, very small beer indeed, in light of what Christmas is really about–like, it’s only the Word of God made flesh and personally coming into our fallen world to make atonement for our sins and win for us eternal life. So can I say my books my nice gifts, any day of the year?

So, keep your eyes peeled for The Throne cover art, today or tomorrow, and let me know how you like it.

Progress Report: ‘The Silver Trumpet’

Don’t ask me how, but I got my latest set of The Silver Trumpet chapters typed up and sent off to my editor yesterday, printed them this morning, and have now begun writing the next set.

The story’s moving fast now, although I still don’t know where it will end up. The Lord gives it to me piece by piece. But Lord Chutt is learning that people don’t always do what you want them to to, even when you’ve bought them off, I now know why the people of Obann dread the sea, and a fully-equipped army is on the move in the dead of winter, heading straight for Ninneburky. Also, Wytt has been quite busy.

I just love watching these stories unfold. I hope you will, too.

Comment Contest: Win the Country of Your Choice

There are fewer than 100 comments to go, for there to be a winner of this current comment contest. Whoever posts Comment No. 9,000 will win–

the country of your choice, for you to be absolute ruler of!

If it turns out that I can’t swing that, well, then, whoever posts No. 9,000 will win an autographed copy of one of my books. If you want Bell Mountain No. 9, The Throne, I’ll send you a copy as soon as it becomes available–hopefully, in time for Christmas.

Anyone can enter, post as many comments as you like, and No. 9,000 wins. All comments are eligible except for the following:

Any comments abusive to me or to another reader, any that employ the f-bomb or other profanity, blasphemy, commercials thinly disguised as comments–really, you’ll never get away with that–or comments simply too inane to bother with. Other than these restrictions, anything goes.

Hey, I don’t know where everybody is this month: but if you’ve always wanted to be dictator or empress or grand panjandrum of whatever country on the globe, here’s your chance.

Comment Contest: <200 to Go

Yes, I know I’ve already said it was only a hundred and change to go, but that was because I mis-read the stats. Sorry about that.

There are fewer than 200 comments to go, and whoever posts Comment No. 9,000 will win an autographed copy of one of my books. I’m hopeful that Bell Mountain No. 9, The Throne, will be available in time for Christmas. So if that’s the one you want, go for it.

Anyone can play–just leave a comment under any post on this blog.

Ineligible will be comments abusive to me or to another reader, those containing the f-bomb or other profanity, blasphemy, commercials thinly disguised as comments–really, how does anyone expect to get away with that?–or comments simply too inane to bother with.

Wow! A New Comment Contest!

Holy cow, I almost let the time slip by! It’s time for a new comment contest–and with only 100 and change left to go.

Whoever posts Comment No. 9,000 on this blog will win an autographed copy of one of my books. Bell Mountain No. 9, The Throne, isn’t available yet, but if you want to choose it as your prize, that’s all right by me.

Anyone can play–just leave a comment at the bottom of any post. Pretty much anything goes, but there are some boundaries. Ineligible will be any comments abusive to me or to another reader, any that include the f-bomb or any other profanity, any kind of blasphemy, anything that’s really a commercial thinly disguised as a comment, or anything simply too inane to bother with.

There’s not much time left, so if you want to play, hop in!

Another Big Piece of the Story

As you’ll know if you’ve been following this blog, I write my Bell Mountain novels piece by piece, as God gives them to me. I don’t dope them out beforehand; instead, I wait for what He gives me. This can lead to a certain amount of artistic uncertainly, but it’s also very exciting.

For years, now, I’ve been wondering why the people of Obann shun the sea, but are unable to explain why. What happened to make the sea so dreadful to them? It must have been something to do with the Day of Fire, in which God destroyed their civilization a thousand years ago. But what could it have been?

As of today, I know!

I never expected this to be any part of the book I’m writing now, The Silver Trumpet: but suddenly I see that it really has to be. History, even ancient history, never dies; like it or not, the past is always part of the present. It has shaped the present and will shape the future. It’s a continuum of everything that’s happened, and can nowhere be cut off.

I can hardly wait to get to work on this tomorrow.

‘The Silver Trumpet’: Halfway (Maybe)

The Temple (Bell Mountain Series #8) (English Edition) di [Duigon, Lee]

Bell Mountain No. 8, “The Temple.” No. 9, “The Throne,” is still in production.

Look at this, it’s almost Labor Day. Where does the time go?

Since April I’ve been chipping away on writing “Bell Mountain No. 10,” The Silver Trumpet. I started by describing a certain event which I did not understand, and by now I reckon I’m about halfway to the finish line.

New characters and new places that weren’t in my mind when I started have since come into the story. It’s so cool, the way that happens. I never know what to expect from these stories. As for the original event that kicked off the story, it still retains more than a little mystery: I have yet to get to the bottom of it.

Every working day I ask the Lord to give me the story that He wants me to tell, and bit by bit He gives it. How it winds up being a coherent novel is more than I can explain. But it’s worked nine times so far, and looks to me, and to my editors, that it’s still working just fine.

As Fnaa, the king’s double, would say, “What else did you expect?”

Sneak Preview: ‘The Throne’

No. 8, The Temple

Okay, I have permission; so here’s the cover blurb for The Throne, Book No. 9 of my Bell Mountain series. Most of the editing is finished, we’re waiting for the cover art by Kirk DouPonce, and I hope we can get it published in time for Christmas. But first, the blurb:

The Thunder King has been destroyed–or has he actually reappeared in Obann’s greatest city, to claim it as his prey?

In city and in forest, the boy king’s loyal servants struggle to preserve his throne. But it will be a long journey home for King Ryons and his army, while ambitious and unfaithful men scheme to take away his kingdom.

Nothing in the city of Obann is what it seems to be. Evil masquerades as good, while good must hide behind a semblance of evil. The king’s chief spy poses as the usurper’s trusted adviser–but will he be able to find the help he needs to mount a successful resistance?

For God has chosen Ryons to be king, and Ryons’ people must find friends in unexpected places.

Join the heroes of Bell Mountain as they fight for Ryons’ kingdom!

So there you have it, and I hope it makes you want to read the book when it comes out. And if you’re interested, but haven’t read any of these books yet, start with No. 1, Bell Mountain.

My Cover Blurb for ‘The Throne’

Image result for images of tired author

You don’t want to read any more about politics today, do you? ‘Cause I sure don’t feel like writing about it. Blowing my stack first thing in the morning kind of wears me out.

But I came back from the nursing home (no change, everything with Aunt Joan is as it has been for quite some time) and decided I’d better tackle writing a cover blurb for The Throne–Book No. 9 of the Bell Mountain series–so it can be published in time for Christmas. And as I was writing it, the Lord told me what I needed to know to continue writing The Silver Trumpet. He knew I needed help today.

As much as I would like to post the blurb here as a sneak preview, I think I ought first to get it approved by Susan, my editor, and by the publishers, The Chalcedon Foundation dba Storehouse Press. So, if they say it’s good, and they accept it, and I get their permission to do so, I’ll let you all see it as soon as I can.
