Well, here they are on that little train again, packing the seats and the aisles with Christmas music…
Requested by Thewhiterabbit, Joy to the World–with the train ride, of course, brought to you by Fountainview Academy.

I have two more hymns to post–and enter into our Christmas Carol Contest–before I go on to anything else. I don’t propose to cover any putrid nooze, though.
First up, requested by Ina: In the Bleak Midwinter, sung by Susan Boyle.
I like to post this every year at Christmas-time, as a gift to all your good folks out there–My Love’s an Arbutus, performed by the Fairhaven Singers. It’ll seem familiar to you, even if you’re sure you haven’t heart it before. But you probably have. It was used as one of the musical themes in the best Christmas movie ever, Scrooge, in 1951.
I have a couple more hymns liked up for you, but first I’ve got to make the bed and have some breakfast–chicken and barley soup on a cold, grey morning. I’d love for it to snow…
P.S.–My wife was about to go outside when she saw this on the screen. “Ah!” she said. “My Love’s an Arbutus! I had to see the picture, though. I can’t hear it.”
“That’s because it’s not on,” I said. “I can’t post it and play it at the same time.”
She was greatly relieved that her hearing isn’t that bad.
Requested by Phoebe, starting us off on Christmas Eve–the Robert Shaw Chorale, singing Christ Was Born on Christmas Day (am I starting to sound like Ed Sullivan?).
Oy, have I got work to do today! But there’ll be Christmas music playing the whole time I’m doing it.
I wasn’t able to write a Newswithviews column this week. I worked so hard, finishing The Witch Box, that other jobs just piled up on me.
So here’s one from Christmas Day, seven years ago:

What? A Christmas column inspired by 1 Corinthians Chapter 1?
You bet.
Merry Christmas, everybody–and here’s to the day, by the grace and power of God, we get our freedom back.
My friend in Australia posted this on my chess page: We Three Kings, sung by Hugh Jackman, David Hobson, and Peter Cousen.
For me, Christmas is an anchor in my life, a great stone that all the world’s waves of idiocy can’t wash away.
Here’s a request by Erlene–What Began in a Manger, by Carroll Roberson.
So many Christmas carols still un-entered! We’ll never be able to post them all.
But we could try!
I was sure Thewhiterabbit would eventually ask for this one–Once in Royal David’s City–and here it is, today’s first entry in our annual Christmas Carol Contest. Sung by the chapel choir at Kings College, Cambridge.
I don’t know why, but the carol contest doesn’t seem to be quite catching on this season. Two entries remain tied for the lead with 19 views. Maybe it’s just me saying so, but I think we need Christmas this year like we haven’t needed it in a long time.
Even if you don’t request a carol, you can help the contest along just be viewing the ones that have been posted so far. What could be easier than that?
Requested by SlimJim, O Come All Ye Faithful, sung by Alan Jackson.
Did you know you can request a specific artist along with your hymn or Christmas carol? Just as for Such and Such a Carol sung by Whoever–we’ll do the rest.
Yipes! Just five days till Christmas! And no carol has yet managed to get 20 views.
Maybe Byron’s right. Maybe the prize should’ve been a bicycle…
