Thomas Sowell Socks It to Hollywood

I thought you might enjoy Thomas Sowell’s critique of Disney’s new Snow White, Left-Wing Fat-Head version.

This is about “rewriting cultural norms without public consent.” Right on target, Dr. Sowell.

The video’s eight minutes long, but well worthwhile. It hits the nail on the head–and how!

‘Intellectuals and Society’ Revisited

Guest Commentary: What Thomas Sowell Can Teach Us About Standing Up to the Mob | Commentaries | courierjournal.net

I reviewed this book 11 years ago–Intellectuals and Society, by Thomas Sowell–and having revisited it recently, I can still recommend it. No one more accurately analyzes the machinations of elitist fatheads than Thomas Sowell.

But he doesn’t get into why Western intellectuals are so feckless, so wrong, and so stupid. It’s easy to explain, though: these people have explicitly rejected God. They’re stuck worshiping themselves, and it leads them into a multitude of errors.

I admire Dr. Sowell. I enjoy listening to him on the radio. I have enjoyed and profited from his books and columns. And I can’t explain why he didn’t examine the intellectuals’ rejection of God. It’s this that makes them so profoundly stupid.

On the whole, though, his analysis of the absurd beliefs of intellectuals, the sheer uselessness of their ideas, their pomposity, and their shallowness–well, you just can’t beat it. Not even after 11 years.

We do need to understand what we are up against. We can get some of that understanding from Thomas Sowell.

Don’t laugh. Back in the 1960s they used to have off-Broadway plays with titles like that. We used to hear about them.

So here it is, Memorial Day weekend, and it’s raining steadily all day, and tomorrow, and it’s too cold to go outside without your winter coat… hot dog! Blobal Gorming! Climbit Change! Cthulhy fhtagn! Quick, give the government more power! And more of our money! If we give them enough, they’ll save us. Please pay no attention to those record low temperatures. (Dammit, Zuckerberg said he was gonna censor those!)

How do you round up enough random thoughts for a random thoughts column? It looks so easy when Thomas Sowell does it!

The other night somebody unfurled a huuuuge banner from the stands at Yankee Stadium, which read: TRUMP WON, Save America. Right on, kimosabe. Even in New York they know that election wasn’t kosher. Almost makes me want to be a Yankee fan again.

It would be easier to jot down and publish random thoughts if you didn’t have censors and ban artists breathing down your neck. You’ll have to read my mind for some of these.

Ah, well. Don’t forget our porch party, which I’ve moved ahead to tomorrow to give us time to imagine more stories and games and snacks. Don’t worry about the weather; the imaginary weather will be just fine.

And here’s a cute little axolotl to speed you on your way.

R.I.P.: Walter Williams

Walter Williams: Focus on police obscures black tragedy - The Virginian-Pilot - The Virginian-Pilot

A champion of liberty, reason, common sense, and sanity has died–and will be sorely missed.

Walter Williams, long-time professor of economics at George Mason University, conservative commentator and reliable voice of reason, 84 years old, died this morning. His final column, “This tragedy in Black education is new,” was published today (https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/williams-this-tragedy-in-black-education-is-new).

This is a loss to America. We’ll all have to work a little harder, without him.

I always enjoyed his guest host spots on Rush Limbaugh’s radio program, especially when he was joined by his friend and colleague, Dr. Thomas Sowell. When you listened to these two, you listened to wisdom. Besides which, Dr. Williams’ humor and good cheer was always refreshing.

The best memorial we can give him is to preserve our constitutional republic.

UK Noozie: Good Grammar is ‘Racist’

See the source image

Joe Collidge lives! He has pioneered spelling any word any old way you please, and making up grammar as he goes along–and now the data editor (whatever that is) of a major British newspaper agrees with him.

“Grammar snobs are patronizing, pretentious, and just plain wrong,” says this yo-yo at The Guardian. And “minorities” shouldn’t be expected to know grammar. (https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/melissa-mullins/2016/04/23/angry-brit-correcting-grammar-racist-classist-and-censorious)

So who, again, is “patronizing” and “pretentious”?

But let’s hear from Joe Collidge himself:

I has bin sayin This “all” “alonge” that gramer It “is” Racist!! and this hear jist gose “to” Proove it!!, “and” i kanow i aint not Rong “abote” it neether!!!

I wonder if Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell realizes he’s being a white supremacist by using proper grammar. Maybe they, as Minorities, shouldn’t be allowed to use it. After all, it’s a form of White Privilege, to be able to communicate clearly.

Or, as Constable Chumley would say, “Yair fithen me cransion, I forrit!”

Thomas Sowell vs. ‘Intellectuals’

In 2010 Thomas Sowell blasted The Smartest People in the World with his book, Intellectuals and Society, delving deep into the question of just how stupid these people are. I reviewed the book for Chalcedon.

https://chalcedon.edu/magazine/a-review-of-intellectuals-and-society

As you will have seen from my review (if you’ve read it), Dr. Sowell didn’t devote any effort to discovering why intellectuals have such asinine beliefs. I would have liked to have asked him why he didn’t get into that, but he wasn’t available at the time. I admire Dr. Sowell and I would love to have interviewed him.

The question not having been addressed by the author, it remained for the reviewer to do his best with it.

Is Trump an ‘Unmitigated Disaster’?

I don’t like to disagree with Thomas Sowell. He’s a brilliant man whom I respect, and I’ve never had to disagree with him before. I do it now with some trepidation.

Today, in his townhall.com commentary, Dr. Sowell called the emergence of Donald Trump as the likely Republican presidential nominee “an unmitigated disaster” for the GOP, for the country, and probably even for the world ( http://townhall.com/columnists/thomassowell/2016/05/06/an-unmitigated-disaster-n2158652 ). Gee, he’s that bad?

Sowell flayed Trump for his “unending reckless and irresponsible statements” and wound up hoping that some third party candidate would rise up strong enough to prevent either Trump or Hillary Clinton from winning, throwing the election into the House of Representatives and maybe winding up awarding the White House to someone, anyone, better than Trump or Clinton.

But for the time being, we face a very simple, however distasteful, proposition. We don’t really know what Trump would do as president; but I think we do know what Hillary Clinton would do, and God forbid she gets the chance to do it. In her case we are talking about a left-wing ideologue with a solid track record of criminality. So we are asked to choose between opening a door to a swarm of killer bees that will certainly fly out and sting us to death, or opening a door to the unknown. How hard a choice is that?

The American people are in this situation because we are governed by a political class, backed by academics and unions and movie stars, that has all but destroyed the country. That’s why Trump won all those primaries. That’s why millions of people are prepared to vote for him.

Dr. Sowell does not want Hillary Clinton to be president. That would indeed be an unmitigated disaster.

But until further notice, the only alternative is Donald Trump.
