Walter Williams Does It Again

Is this guy on target, or what?

Dr. Walter Williams, who’s been a college professor for most of his life, nails it again in his townhall.com column for the day, “Colleges, a Force for Evil.”

Williams tabs our collidges and looniversities as “a focal point for the destruction of traditional American values,” and especially decries their overwhelming “contempt for the First Amendment,” supporting his claim with a multitude of examples. He’s not too sold on our high schools, either.

Yo, America! We’re “educating” our country to death.

It’s time we defunded these institutions, which have become parasitic and actively harmful to our nation’s health.

I once asked a high school Advanced Placement class, “What do you think of a country that devotes enormous, costly resources–in this case, the school building and its maintenance, textbooks, salaries and pensions, and an ever-expanding staff–to teaching a whole generation that their country is not worthy of their loyalty?”

They didn’t know how to answer that; and some months later, a girl from that class approached me in the hall and said, “I just can’t stop thinking about that question that you asked us!”

You go, girl! Keep on thinking. We need a lot more thinking here–and a lot less college.

Walter Williams Socks It to ‘the Experts’

I love Walter Williams, and he’s on target today. Check out his brilliant townhall.com column, “Can We Trust the Experts?”

https://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2018/07/25/can-we-trust-experts-n2502775

Dr. Williams has collected a little treasure chest full of some of the most tomfool things “the experts” have ever said about a variety of subjects. I think my favorite is the prediction that “the horse is here to stay” and automobiles are just a fad.

Educational Disaster, and the Racial Grievance Industry

See the source image

Here are some appalling facts and figures provided by Walter Williams today in his Townhall.com column (https://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2017/11/29/black-selfsabotage-n2414540).

Baltimore has 39 high schools. In 2016, in 13 of those high schools, not a single student passed the state’s math proficiency exam. Of 3,800 students who took the test, only 14 passed it! Meanwhile, only 15 percent of the students passed the English test.

What’s that you say? The schools need more money? Uh-uh. Baltimore ranks No. 3 in per-pupil spending among the nation’s 100 largest school districts.

Despite this wretched performance on the tests, Baltimore hands out high school diplomas to just about everyone who shows up to get one, and some of them go on, of course, to college–some even on scholarships. And a lot of those, once they get there, fail because they have had no meaningful educational foundation. Others go on to fail in other areas of life.

They wonder how this can be. After all, they have diplomas, just like all those white students who didn’t fail in college (and Dr. Williams points out that the white kids’ educational foundation is nothing to write home about, either). And along come the usual race hustlers and tell these young black people that they fail because of–you guessed it–systemic racism. Meanwhile, the NAACP busies itself opposing any and all attempts to reform the education system. The racial grievance industry is allied, as in joined at the hip, to the teachers’ unions. They’re both in it for the money.

These young people are the prey of thieves and hypocrites, victims of an over-funded, over-staffed, incompetent, dishonest public education system whose sole interest is in fattening their paychecks. God only knows how many potentially productive minds are being wasted by these “educators” and their political protectors. Some of these kids might have accomplished great things, if only they’d been educated.

Instead, all they’ve got is worthless, meaningless diplomas–and a nice big chip on their shoulders, carefully put there by the predators.

Walter Williams Nails It

I’ve long admired Walter Williams and enjoyed his commentaries, and I want to draw your attention to the Townhall.com column he published on July 5 (https://townhall.com/columnists/walterewilliams/2017/07/05/colleges-islands-of-intolerance-n2349890)

This is a bulls-eye for Dr. Williams: “The primary blame for the incivility and downright stupidly we see on university campuses lies with the university’s trustees… who are little more than yes men for the university president and provost.”

The trustees control the universities’ purse strings, and they’ve been letting faculty and students get away with overt barbarism. This is because, says Williams, they’re busy with other things and just “not interested” in taking an active part in how their universities behave.

Well, they’d better get interested, and soon. This has gone more than far enough.
