Really, who is “the worst Democrat”?

New York Times columnist and Red China fan Thomas Friedman inadvertently raised a fascinating question: Who is “the worst Democrat”?

An Oracle of Fiddle-Faddle

Talk about an embarrassment of riches! My vote goes to Obama, hands down; but there must be thousands of equally qualified contestants for the title. Who is The Worst Democrat? Friedman himself is in the running for it.

I ought to open an essay contest, shouldn’t I?

By Request, ‘The Lighthouse’

Erlene asked for this one, The Lighthouse, by John Starnes. Jesus Christ is our lighthouse. He also rescues us when we get shipwrecked.

The hymn shop is now open.

The 5 Trendiest Dishes You Can Serve Your Guests

deconstructed basil cake with strawberries

I think if people actually thought I was trendy, I might just sit down and cry.

A cut-up strawberry–one freakin’ strawberry!–plus a cut-up sponge… Is this somebody’s idea of a joke?

I’m trying to get my view numbers back up to where they’re supposed to be, but the popular culture just won’t play ball. I mean, come on, what’s next–live crickets in shoe polish? Can you still buy Kiwi shoe polish?

I don’t think I want to know what the other four dishes are. First you know trendy; then the next thing is, you’re trying to be trendy. I wish to avoid this.

So Who Needs Wings to Fly?

This cat laughs at gravity. Look at him go! If the house was bigger, he’d jump even higher.

That being said, a don’t recommend allowing him to jump into the microwave.

This Book Is Scaring Me

Amazon.com: The Tyranny of Big Tech (9781684512393): Hawley, Josh: Books

I’ll be reviewing this book for Chalcedon, so I’m reading it now and it’s scaring me. Big-time.

Never in history has so much wealth and so much power been acquired by so few, to the detriment of so many. The few, of course, being the oligarchs who run Big Tech.

Senator Josh Hawley’s book was originally suppressed, but then Regnery agreed to publish it. It doesn’t seem like Google, Facebook, or the other plutocrats want Americans to read it.

Y’know what’s really scared me? Both the European Union and the U.S. government have, from time to time, fined Google et al billions of dollars (or euros) for various illegal practices–and what happens then? If they can’t beat the rap by buying off regulators, Big Tech simply pays the fines and continues on its merry way to global domination. Because to them, $5 billion is chump change. Their wealth is virtually infinite. They’ll do whatever they please, and laugh at the consequences.

We, the people of the world’s nations, are in dire peril of losing our liberty. Big Tech offers us assorted goodies in return, and we’ve found those hard to resist. Like, who wants to be left out of the next big thing?

Another scare: Big Tech watches and keeps track of literally everything you say and do and read online. Those assorted electronic gizmos that we like so much, and can’t do without–they spy on us. And Big Tech uses that unimaginably vast store of information to manipulate us. Ultimately, to control us. Pick our leaders for us. Own our whole economy. Own our institutions. And no one has found a way to stop them.

Oh, they’d stop if some of their grand panjandrums went to jail instead of just having to pay fines with money that they’ll never miss. But who’s going to try, convict, and jail them? Whom have they not bothered to buy off?

This is bad.

But it’s also the Tower of Babel all over again, and you know how that turned out.

Pray: O Lord our God, defend us. O Lord our God, avenge us. In Jesus’ name and by the power of Jesus’ name, Amen.

By Request, ‘All My Sins Have Been Forgiven’

Okay, I’m all caught up on the hymn requests. This one is from Susan: All My Sins Have Been Forgiven, performed by Wheaton College students in the family room at College Church. I think I see a dulcimer in the orchestra.

Now we need some hymns for tomorrow’s blog. The hymn shop is open to all.

Christian Blogger Visits the 1960s

I don’t think our friend “SlimJim” experienced the 1960s for himself; but I did, and his essay is thoughtful, penetrating, and right on target. Give it an attentive read.

Post 2020 World Being Like the 1960s?

I was in college for the anti-war movement, bomb threats on campus, hippies, drugs, “love”–whatever they meant by that–and the whole daily circus of “protests,” which were mostly virtue signalling, tumult, “days of rage,” and organized hypocrisy. Jimmy sees much the same happening in our country today; and he sees churches setting “woke ideology above the Bible.”

The Sixties bled into the Seventies and then seemingly bled out when Ronald Reagan was elected president.

But now they’re back. And for whatever my memory is worth… they’re worse.

13th Century Historian: Canceled!

Snorri Sturluson - Wikipedia

Snorri Sturlusson at work

A new edition of 13th-century scholar Snorri Sturlusson’s history of the kings of Norway has been…

Canceled!

Pander Publishing has killed the project because, said a company shill, Snorri didn’t have enough “Blacks” in his story. As an Icelander who died in 1241, Snorri was not able to write about any  African-American kings of Norway.

Said Pander president Popeye Schlubb. “It’s our job, as progressives, to give Minorities a leg up wherever we can. If Norway can’t generate its own Barack Obama, it’s up to us to generate one for them!

“Writing history is not enough. We are here to make history!”

And Minorities can’t make it on their own.

By Request, ‘Jerusalem’ [I Thought It’d Be Hard to Find]

I never thought I’d find this hymn so quickly. Beverly requested it, but she didn’t have the title, only a line: “And did those feet in ancient time…” But I thought of another line that probably went with it: “In England’s green and pleasant land.” And between us, we found it.

Jerusalem–from a poem by William Blake, set to music in 2016 by Hubert Parry: it’s now known as the unofficial anthem of England.

And England has never needed it so badly as she needs it now.

‘A Parable for Our Time’ (2014)

This was sickeningly true in 2014, and even more so now.

A Parable for Our Time

Yes–you point to the shambles, the disaster, that you created… and say, “Look what happened.” As if it happened without you!

People, you can’t treat your country like Democrats have been treating America. You’ll kill it. You’ll destroy it.

But I’m afraid that’s exactly what they mean to do.
