‘A Mighty Fortress is Our God’ (Yes!)

Turn up the volume on this one: Diane Bish uses the power and  versatility of this huge pipe organ to praise God with Martin Luther’s hymn.

I’ve been to the hospital this morning. Aunt Joan appears to be in no present danger, although they haven’t yet figured out what’s wrong with her. I would like to see her back at the nursing home with her friends.

Oh, she’s not the only family member with serious issues, just now; but I’m not at liberty to talk about any of the others. Besides, what family doesn’t have problems?

God send us strength.

Signing Off… With a Hymn

To wash the taste of the news out of my soul:

This is my Father’s world! O let me ne’er forget

That tho’ the wrong seems oft so strong,

God is the ruler yet.   Amen!

And there are an awful lot of powerful and influential people today who are gonna have to do some mighty fast talkin’, come the Judgment…

By Request, ‘Down From His Glory’

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  –Psalm 121:1

The lyrics of this hymn were written to accompany the melody of a very popular song–O Sole Mio. I wanted the version by the Adoration Ensemble, but couldn’t find it. May this acapella rendition suffice.

The phone just rang. The nursing home: my aunt is back in the hospital again. Seems something that should have been done for her, wasn’t done.

Your prayers, please. It’s getting so I just can’t bear the phone to ring anymore.

Sanity Medicine: Kitten and Owl

So I’m taking my blood pressure, and the stupid box falls over and topples my glass of iced tea all over the table… Grrrr!

But here we have the calming influence of a kitten making friends with a little fluffy owl. Ah, that’s nice! Much nicer than–oh, stop thinking about it!

I am currently reading Bell Mountain No. 9, The Throne, trying to come up with suggested for our cover artist, Kirk DuoPonce. He’ll be mighty hard press to outdo the covers he created for The Glass Bridge and The Temple.

I wonder how my cats would get along with an owl.

One More Time: ‘To Be a Pilgrim’

Now I have to go out and get my blood pressure medications, so I find myself in need of encouragement.

It this hymn doesn’t pump you up, you’re probably due for an autopsy.

Words by John Bunyan, 1684–still glorious today.

Today’s Final Video, Starring a Spider

Ladies and gentlemen! For your edification and enjoyment, we proudly present [trumpet fanfare] a spider chasing a laser pointer light.

But not just any spider! Nosireebob–this here is a genuine jumping spider. If you look closely, you’ll see she has two rather large eyes, plus a bunch of smaller ones you probably can’t see. That’s what makes jumping spiders unique in spiderdom: they can see! They hunt their prey by sight.

Still, there is one thing that defeats our most concentrated mental efforts–

What does this spider think she sees, when she sees the laser light?

Sanity Medicine: Snuggly Bunnies

Ibis Hotels came up with this snuggly bunny TV ad. After all the kerfluffle this morning, I thought this might relax me. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m crazy about bunnies and have always wished I might have one, but it has never come to pass. I wouldn’t want my mice saying, “So what are we–chopped liver?” But love is a renewable resource, isn’t it?

By Request, ‘Heaven’s Joy Awaits’

Happy Birthday to Erlene, who has requested this–Heaven’s Joy Awaits, performed by the Gaithers and friends.

I am back from the doctor. I will have to take medication for my blood pressure, which is dangerously high–but other than that, I seem to be in good shape. I have to be careful because high blood pressure runs in my family, with the male side given to short life spans. But I will be here for as long as God wants me to be–not a minute less, not a minute more.

Stonewall Jackson was once asked how he could be so brave in battle. He said he was as safe on the battlefield as he was at home in bed, because his life was in God’s hands.

There are a lot of medical issues floating around in my family–but then that’s probably true for every family.

Time to put away fear and get on with things. Let God be God, the sovereign Lord of all.

‘O, God, Our Help in Ages Past’

I really didn’t feel like posting a hymn before I rushed off to the doctor this morning and found out what I was in for. But then I thought I’d better take the same advice I keep dispensing: sing louder. When things get bad, sing louder.

So here is Diane Bish on a colossal big pipe organ performing O, God, Our Help in Ages Past.

And our hope in years to come: although if He sees me through this morning without any evil tidings falling on my head, I’ll be very thankful for that.

Sanity Medicine: Cute Kittens

First thing tomorrow morning, I get to go to the doctor for my blood pressure. I am terrified that they’ll find all sorts of things wrong with me that I never knew were there. “I say, old boy, did you know you’ve got a rather nasty thing going on inside your duodenum?”

Yesterday I almost popped a gasket when it seemed Medicare was going to confiscate the money for my aunt’s pre-paid funeral. Hint: Put the money in an irrevocable trust where they can’t get it. My aunt had wisely done so, as we found out after a time.

Please pray I get spared evil tidings tomorrow.

Now back to the kittens.
