S.O.S! Mayday, Mayday…

Is it time to jump your sinking ship? - Giraffe CVs

I’ve just been informed that my blog is using “an old, retired theme” that’s falling apart bit by bit and losing function and will therefor have to be replaced. First I lost my reblog function, now I can’t access my own older posts.

So Jill at Chalcedon HQ is going to design and install a new theme, and heaven help me if it doesn’t work. Everything will probably look different. And if it works differently… well, that’s all I need. I’ll go right round the bend.

In July we lost three weeks’ worth of Internet access, and now the blog has sprung several leaks which must be addressed before the whole thing capsizes like the island of Guam if they put any more Marines on it.

I pray I’ll see you all tomorrow.

Quokkas on the Job

G’day! Byron the Quokka here–and as you can see in the picture, we’re all working like galley slaves to try to fix this blog. July really clobbered it, what with all those internet outages and such.

Here at Quokka U., we’re toiling behind the scenes to try to breathe life back into this blog. I could tell you about some poor blighter whose blood pressure monitor gave up the ghost this morning, but he told me not to mention it, so I won’t.

At the highest level, the thinking is that if there were more on this blog about pick-up sticks, it’d keep viewers coming back for more.

It’s hard, though, to get proper pick-up sticks video. This one comes with a clumsy human who wouldn’t last five minutes in a game against a quokka.

There’s also some support for upping the stakes in the comment contests–like that time we gave away the Mona Lisa as a prize. It wasn’t my fault we had to give it back.

Well, we’ll just have to come up with something!

I’m PO’d at WordPress

I’ve been back and forth with WordPress for two weeks, trying to get my Reblog function restored. At first they kept saying they were working on it. But yesterday came the final word: No. No reblog for you.

Bottom line is, I had Reblog, I made good use of it, and then they took it away and won’t give it back. Why won’t they give it back? Something about a Business plan or whatevvuh: snow the poor user with a lot of computer lingo, he might give up and go away.

I like to share posts with you from other Christian bloggers. And it boosts my readership, too. Why won’t WordPress let me do that anymore? Ooh-ooh, wait, I know! I’ll bet they have a policy! You don’t need to think if you have a policy!

My tech support does not know why I’ve lost my Reblog, nor does she know how I can get it back. And WordPress is making out like I never had it in the first place!

What have I ever done to them? Why don’t they just give me back my Reblog and then I’ll shut up about it?

Well, they’re not the only company that thumbs its nose at its customers, are they?

*Sigh* So Much for Reblogs

Well, WordPress finally admitted this afternoon that I have no reblog capability and I’m not gonna get any, either.

On the off chance that maybe, somehow, my reblog function got restored–like when you’re looking everywhere for your cat, high and low: and the next thing you know, she’s sitting in the middle of the living room floor, washing–I tried today to reblog a post from Joshua’s blog, “Spread the Word.” It didn’t work. Wouldn’t work for the WordPress “happiness engineer,” either.

Oh, I could study a special video and learn how to do some ridiculously complicated workaround… but that would only give me a hot head. And I can’t contact Jill, my tech support, because AOL Mail is down. Oh, fap.

Things are not working in Computer-Land.

Again, if you’re wondering why I’ve stopped reblogging posts from your blog, the answer is, I haven’t. I have been stopped from doing it. As Sir Thomas Malory would say, That me repenteth.

Are You Getting Your E-Mail Notifications?

See the source image

According to WordPress, I have almost 1,600 followers. And yet my views here are down 100-120 a day from what they were two months ago. What gives?

Well, today someone told us that she’d received an email notification of a new post–for the first time in months.

Gee, that would answer the question, “Where did everybody go?” If they’re not getting their email notifications of new posts, they won’t know there are new posts and won’t visit the blog.

Hello out there! Are you getting your email notifications whenever there’s a new post?

WordPress also needs to restore my reblog function, which hasn’t worked in other a month.

It’s very hard to make progress when your support lets you down.

Still Can’t Reblog

I’ve just spent an hour and a half with the WordPress happiness engineer trying to restore my ability to reblog. Nothing doing.

The post I try to reblog, in its travels from my colleague’s page to mine… simply disappears. I just tried to reblog Kristi Ann’s Haven and the same thing happened: it disappeared. Meanwhile, her page thinks the reblog was successful. *Sigh*

The problem turns out to be much more complicated than the engineer first thought, so WordPress will have to get back to me on this. It’d be nice if they could solve it.

So, for all my friends out there who’ve been wondering why I’ve stopped reblogging their posts–I haven’t stopped. I’ve been stopped.

So Far, So Good

Here's you daily dose of quokka 🐨 : aww

G’day! Byron the Quokka here. It’s just past 11:00, Lee has put up five posts, and our internet access has not yet pooped out on us. Dare we hope it’s fixed? The Verizon guy said hopefully by 8 p.m. last night, but that didn’t happen.

Anyhow, today’s blog is so far, so good. I know, I know–that’s what the bloke said a moment after he jumped out of a tenth-story window. But we quokkas are always hopeful.

The next job is somehow to get the readership back up to 2020 levels. Until July came along, we were averaging almost 390 views a day. Now it looks like 2015 again. Verizon’s fault, all the way. But today so far is the longest we’ve been all month without losing the internet.

Pray we’re out of the woods!

WhileVerizon Burns

Bell Mountain (Bell Mountain, 1) - Kindle edition by Duigon, Lee ...

While I’m waiting (and waiting and waiting) for something better than totally sporadic internet access, at least I can go outside and work on my new book, Behold!

Yesterday a new character just strolled into the story and did things. I love it when that happens! She came out of nowhere–never saw her until she was onstage. Well, I do pray every day for the Lord to give me the story that He wants me to tell, to make it fruitful in His service and worthy of its readers. So far, that’s just what He’s done.

Now I guess I’ll try to cover some nooze. I’m not making any promises: this thing can conk out on me at any moment.

Still Not Fixed!

Well, I’ve just spent 30 minutes yelling (literally) at some Verizon schmendrick who couldn’t tell me when I’d have internet access.

See, as soon as I got home from the doctor’s, our %$#@$ internet immediately began going in and out again, totally frustrating my ability to work and driving me flat-out crazy. I mean, where’s my hatchet? Where’s my shotgun?

Anyway, the guy said they’re having “a major cable problem” and he don’t know when it’s gonna be fixed, maybe by 8:00 tonight–but that’s a really big maybe.

And now I’d better stop before the accursed thing conks out again.

Am I Here or Not?

Well, well, they were supposed to fix our problem yesterday; but whatever they did, they killed our internet access. Killed it dead.

So we called again today, and this time the promise was that our access would be restored this afternoon or early in the evening.

If this post gets published, does that mean it’s fixed?

We have learned not to expect people to do the things they say they’re going to do.

Meanwhile, this business has made a shambles of this blog, just about a smoking ruin. Viewership is now dropped back down to 2015 levels. All that work undone!

Wonder how long it’ll take to build it up again.
