His Mercy Endureth Forever

So I finally got an amazon customer review for Bell Mountain No. 12, His Mercy Endureth Forever–and the guy panned it. Two stars.

It’s a waste of time trying to tell anybody why he should have liked something or other, but gee whiz. This book is unsuitable for young readers because some of the characters who are supposed to be the good guys… tell lies. Gallgoid, the chief spy, tells porkies to the bad guys. You mean he shouldn’t do that? This is supposed to be “un-Christian.” But in the Bible, Rahab is praised for hiding the Israelite spies and lying to deceive the men who are hunting for them; and Jehosheba is praised for hiding the baby prince when the wicked queen, Athalia, tried to kill off the royal family. Like, Rahab should’ve said, “I cannot tell a lie. The Israelites are hiding on my roof.” Really? Like, instead of hiding the Jews, you should’ve told the Nazis where they were?

The reader also expressed a feeling that Bell Mountain has just gone on too long, on and on without getting anywhere. Do any of you think so? I’ve heard from people who don’t want the series ever to end. Well, there’s no pleasing everybody.

Even so, I’d love to know what some of you think of this book, His Mercy. And then there’s The Wind from Heaven next, and I’m working on Behold! So we can’t stop the series just yet.

Anyway, writers live on feedback, it’s food and drink to us. Just sayin’….

All Right, We’ll Have Another Comment Contest

Meet quokkas - the happiest animals on Earth

G’day, faithful readers! Byron the Quokka here–and Phoebe has convinced me to start another comment contest, and Lee wasn’t sure about it, so I said, “Leave it up to me! It shouldn’t be too hard to get this blog humming again.”

As of just now, we have 61,981 comments. We shall set the next target at 64,000, in memory of the famous $64,000 question. And the prize will be–

Sixty-four thousand dollars! [Blood-curdling scream offstage.] Poor chap, he just can’t take a joke. He won’t even offer a bicycle for a prize. So of course it’ll be an autographed copy of his new book, His Mercy Endureth Forever.

Now, how long will it take us to rack up some 2,000 more comments? Search me! But as long as we have fun doing it, who cares?

We have half a year left to achieve the blog’s first-ever 12,000-view month, which we’ve only just missed twice already.

I wonder if we could offer a scholarship to Quokka University. That’ll pack ’em in. But I’ll have to wait till he calms down a bit before I mention that.

Meet the Quokka

G’day! Byron the Quokka here. I hate to get on Lee’s back, but I had to remind him that he’s got to send out the prizes won by Watchman and Ina in the last two comment contests. Those would be autographed copies of his latest book, His Mercy Endureth Forever–which took longer than expected to be published, and then it took him ages to lay his hands on a couple of mailers.

I mean, heck, I’d do it for him, but who ever expects to see a quokka in the post office? So he says he’ll do it as soon as he can, probably next week. I won’t let him forget! I’d really like to see this done before it’s time for the next comment contest.

Some Progress on My New Book

In spite of multitudinous distractions, I’ve finished writing the first three chapters of my new book, Behold! I don’t know where I’m going, but that’s nothing new. I may need a better title by and by, but none has yet presented itself to me.

Meanwhile, Jack and Ellayne have seen glyptodons (see illustration) on their way to Durmurot, Ebed is aboard a ship from the Lost Continent, the new government of Obann City is trying to clean up the mess left by Lord Chutt’s usurpation, Ysbott the Snake is on his way to further mischief, and the old rat who lives under the baroness’ kitchen is having premonitions of bad times to come.

This will be Bell Mountain No. 14–who would’ve thought it?–and we’re no editing No. 13, The Wind from Heaven. No. 12, His Mercy Endureth Forever, is available from the Chalcedon Foundation (www.chalcedon.edu/store/ ) and, in Kindle format, from amazon.com.

It makes a welcome break from nooze. Which is a good reason for you to buy it.

I was sitting outside this afternoon, writing my Newswithviews column for the week–a column about my new book, His Mercy Endureth Forever, and my Bell Mountain series in general.

I was just finishing the work when I chanced to look up: and what did I see?

A beautiful, graceful, full-grown deer trotting across the yard, only 30 or 40 feet away from my chair. She vanished around the corner of the house next door, and when I walked over to see where she was headed, I saw no sign of her. I don’t know where she went.

I took it as a sign that God was nigh, and He wanted me to know that: for which I give Him thanks.

Huzzah! (Can’t say “wahoo” twice.) I’ve just received my author’s copies of Bell Mountain No. 12, His Mercy Endureth Forever. Now I can mail Watchman and Ina their comment contest prizes.

Dig that cover by Kirk DouPonce! Is that cool, or what? That’s Ellayne being attacked by the giant Ice Age hyena–and if you want to know what happens, you’ve got to read the book. The prehistoric hyena was an awesome predator that mostly ate rhinos. The horse is Dulayl, who’s been with us since Book 1.

I haven’t yet gotten the sign to start writing Book No. 14, and meanwhile No. 13, The Wind from Heaven, has to be edited; and we have to dream up a cover for it. Busy, busy, busy! But it’s the kind of busy I like.

Well, it took long enough to get printed, but it’s finally ready to go–the 12th book of my Bell Mountain series, His Mercy Endureth Forever.

It’s not on amazon or Barnes & Noble yet, but you can order it directly from the publisher at https://chalcedon.edu/store/ . I admit the paperback costs $18. But heck, how much does a movie cost, that turns out to be a real turkey? And as long as we’re all under The Great Quarantine, what better time to catch up on your reading?

Please, don’t be like the guy who said, when I told him one of my books had just been published, “So when’s it gonna be a TV movie?” Cheap, cheap, cheap! And it probably won’t ever be turned into a video game, either. Although that could be kind of cool… Certainly way cooler than a TV movie.

(Stop it, Lee! You’re starting to sound like Byron the Quokka.)

Come on, now–how many books have you seen with an Ice Age hyena on the cover, attacking a girl on horseback? Yeah, that incident is in the book–along with plenty more excitement where that came from. (Now I sound like I’m trying to sell a book.)

As soon as we get our copies of His Mercy Endureth Forever, we’ll mail an autographed copy of it to Ina, all the way out there in Scotland. We have heard that there are no quokkas in Scotland. I saw Rob Roy on TV once, and there were no quokkas in it. I could hardly believe my eyes.
