I’ve Been Reading My Books

The Glass Bridge (Bell Mountain, #7) by Lee Duigon | Goodreads

I’m in no condition yet to go back to writing novels, so I’ve been reading them instead. Today I finished The Glass Bridge. It’s Book No. 7 in my Bell Mountain series.

I’m doing this so I can refresh my memory. Fifteen of these books have been published–quite a load for any memory to carry. I don’t think I’m wrong if I say I’m proud of them.

Next, I have to type up No. 17, Ozias, Prince Enthroned; and after that, one more, from scratch: Ozias, Prince Betrayed. After that–well, I don’t know. It depends on what God will give me.

Finally, a Nice Dream

How To Take A Selfie With A Quokka - The Ultimate Guide ...

I haven’t been sleeping well at all. Ooh-ooh! See the doctor again on Monday! That’ll put me to rights. [Cue hysterical laughter]

Meanwhile, although it was way too brief, I finally had a pleasant dream last night in which I cuddled and comforted a quokka.

I don’t like hearing people discuss my looming extinction. I wouldn’t do it to them. You’d think this one doctor had just won the lottery. No, precious, we don’t like that at all! Ssss!

More Doctoring!

This is going to be pretty skimpy reading today: I have not one but two! doctors’ appointments.

After which I’m thinking of just throwing in my cards and trying to take a nap.

Please pray for me.

I’ll Try to Do Better Tomorrow

Turok: Son of Stone 10 - Turok - Son Of Stone - Mortal Combat - Indians - Dinosaurs

Two little posts today, that was my output. Well three, counting this one.

When I was a boy my absolute favorite comic book was Turok Son of Stone, the adventures of a couple of Native Americans in a lost world chock-full of dinosaurs, cave men, and everything else that made prehistoric life worth living. Dodging a pair of battling tyrannosaurs: it doesn’t get any better than that!

Anyway, I don’t have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and I’m looking forward to catching up on the nooze.

Meanwhile, if you’ve encountered any nooze articles you think I ought to look into and write about, please let me know.

I have a “Pet Scan,” whatever that is, scheduled for tomorrow; and beyond that, another consultation with some doctor or other (I can’t keep track).

This is hewing away at my sleep, and I do wish the rain would stop.

Keeping me stuck in a gurney for eight hours, and bringing a highly contagious patient into my room–not to mention blasting my sleep wide-open several times a night–these and other details, I’m not likely to forget.

Where am I going to wake up Wednesday morning? Are they going to shanghai me? Suddenly I find trust has become an issue.

I wish I had a bodyguard.

We’re Still Sick

Yes, the posts are late today. It’s probably lucky I’ve managed to do anything at all today.

We’re both good and sick, Patty and me. It’s from being in the No Rest Rest Home, where they stick you in a little room with a highly contagious patient and see how quickly you can get sick.

And it’s raining today, so no cigar.

We are sooo tired of having coughing fits! How long is this going to continue? Our morale is pretty much busted.

Byron’s TV Listings: June 7

TV Guide May 25, 1964 S. Ohio daytime

The boss has been sick all week, so for this week’s TV listings, I’m on my own–Byron the Quokka, the Grand Pooh-bah of obscure TV shows that nobody watches. Except for the ones I watch. Here are a few of my favorites.

Saturday

5:30 a.m., Ch. 46   THE SKINFLINTSTONES–the lowest comedy imagineable

What if our prehistoric ancestors were a lot of tightwads? What if they were cheap and stingy before money was invented? Tune in to watch Pa Skinflintstone (Matt Sigfusson) try to cheat Bjarni (Rocky Timoshenko) out of his weekly slosh ration.

4 p.m., Ch. 14  KITCHEN OF INDESCRIBABLE DELIGHTS–Cooking show, believe it or not

It’s only later that we find out the only reason these delights are indescribable is because Chef Ronnie Hsiao can’t describe anything! “You, ah, take this pointy thing and cut open this thing with dots all over it…” And then he makes barnyard noises. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Sunday

1:34 p.m., Ch. 12  MOVIE–High and Low Adventure

In Your Mama’s Busted Coccyx (Nebraska, 2002) Chad Boccigalup stars as Shorty Remco, the CIA’s most deadly secret agent. In this outing, Shorty slips up and inadvertently rubs out the Director (Bugs Bunny Jones), posing a challenging problem to Senator Hobo (an animated bas-relief–the latest thing!) Admiral Sprocket: No one in particular.

Well, boys ‘n’ gulls, that ought to doll up your weekend like nobody’s business! Settle down in your burrow with a jar of pickles and just let the world go by.

Byron the Quokka, signing off.

O Holy Cow! Now It’s a Bear!

I was sitting outside in the shade, reading, when I chanced to look up from my book to see a big black bear come ambling straight for me.

What could I do? It was only a few yards away from me and my broken hip barred any attempt to get away. I was a sitting duck. But he only spared me a glance or two and then wandered off into the parking lot. Two police officers were trailing him.I took their advice to go back indoors.

Patty and I are both still sick. But the bear looked plenty healthy.

Now It’s Both Of Us

I'm really sick, can you send pictures of your cats? : r/cats

Yup, we’re both sick now, Patty and me. I can’t help thinking it’s the hospital’s fault–saddling me with a room-mate who coughed and coughed all night, every night… which of course made it impossible for me to get any sleep. We’ve both got it.

Maybe if I sit outside for a while, I’ll feel better.

No, I haven’t forgotten that I’m trying to write a book. But holy cow, the obstacles!
