How Radical Was Jesus?

See the source image

How radical was Jesus Christ, our Savior and our rightful king, the King of kings?

He was this radical:

“Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.” (Matthew 20:25-27)

In the ancient Near East, it was common for rulers to claim to be gods, and for their subjects to worship them as gods. Pharaoh was a god. Alexander the Great was a god. Augustus Caesar objected to being made a god (“How am I supposed to cure gout!” he cried).

But Our Lord Jesus Christ, who really was God, washed His disciples’ feet.

To this day the world’s most ferocious, insane, and arbitrary tyrants insist on being worshipped as gods. Communists call it a “cult of personality” when anybody else does it. America’s nooze media all but proclaimed that inchworm Obama a god: came as close to doing it as they could without getting laughed out of the room.

You know the old proverb, “All that glitters is not gold.” Our leaders and our rulers are a lot of glitter. Some are decent. But our world would not look the way it does if most of them were decent.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took the form of a servant and died on a cross like a despised criminal. He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven. He shall return, and establish His throne upon the earth.

He is minister to us!

A point worthy of a very great deal of thought.

‘Man Marries Tree (Not a Satire, Folks)’ (2016)

See the source image

I think if I were ever told that So-and-so is “an actor and activist,” I would try very hard not to be introduced to him. But here’s a pinhead who insists on introducing himself to the world.

https://leeduigon.com/2016/05/11/man-marries-tree-not-a-satire-folks/

Has anybody noticed that the people who are doing the most to spread nature worship are the same ones who are paving over everything? They talk a game of Gaia while they’re putting up another strip mall. And they never saw a McMansion that they didn’t like.

Marrying trees won’t stop them.

But electing really angry and aggressive conservatives to every level of government… might. At least they couldn’t do worse.

Back from the Vet

All right: X-rays, blood work, antibiotic injection, thorough examination–the works. You should see the bill. They had to give me smelling salts. And of course Robbie didn’t cough the whole time she was at the doctor’s. In fact, she hasn’t yet coughed today.

For the time being, the antibiotics might help, our new air purifier (due in January) might help, and they’re going to do further study of the blood work and the X-rays just to make sure they know what’s what. Please, Lord, let the air purifier be the solution to the problem. That’ll be me you see turning cartwheels on the lawn.

So that’s that for now. I came home and ate soup and brownies. It’s my freak-out and I’ll handle it my way.

Everybody, your prayers are greatly appreciated.

‘Light of the World’

Lord, we need your light!

I like the title of this album by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band: “Sing Lustily and with Good Courage.” Or, as I once heard a wise woman say on the radio, “When things get dark, and you don’t know what to do–sing louder!”

Light of the World, by Charles Wesley: for the true Light, that lighteth everyone that cometh into the world.

My Newswithviews Column, Dec.27 (‘Has the Pushback Started?’)

I just have time to get this posted before I take Robbie to the vet’s–and maybe time to post a hymn, too.

We can certainly pray that the pushback has started: and do our level best to add to it in whatever way we can.

https://newswithviews.com/has-the-pushback-started/

We’re sick of being pushed around by Far Left Crazy. It’s high time we pushed them all the way back into silence and irrelevance. It won’t be easy, but it’s well worth doing.

Dogs Love Leaves

See, now, the fun you do yourself out of, if you’ve got one of those noisy, nasty leaf-blowers (which I will outlaw, if I ever become king)? Nothing beats a dog with a big pile of leaves. With a supporting cast of cat, ferret, bunny, and raccoon.

Yes, I know it isn’t Autumn anymore. But it will be again, someday, so we might as well get started on it.

*Sigh* … Back to the Vet

Our cat, Robbie, has had a bit more than her share of tribulating. I’ve got to take her to the vet first thing tomorrow because lately, for no reason we can think of, she’s coughing. We had at least two years of having to medicate her for that, and at last the cough went away… but now it’s back.

In the meantime, the cost of the asthma medicine has doubled and you just can’t find a rubber mask that fits over a cat’s face to deliver the medicine. We used to have one, but they don’t last forever and now we can’t find a new one. And we’re still medicating her for a hyper thyroid. I don’t know: maybe that medicine needs to be a little weaker. She’s put on more weight than we’d like to see. Maybe that’s making her cough. We just don’t know. Hopefully the doctor does.

It seems all of us around here are taking turns being sick. Gets to be a bit wearing, after a while. We would be thankful for your prayers.

If you don’t see any posts here tomorrow morning, it’s because I’m not here, either.

This was supposed to be our week off.

Our First Date

See the source image

Today is the 42nd anniversary of our first date.

We were working at the old Bayshore Independent newspaper. Patty was the bookkeeper, I was managing editor. We went to dinner at The Islanders in Matawan, a super-nice Chinese restaurant; and they treated us like royalty, the proprietor being very happy with the restaurant review I wrote a few weeks before (thank you, Steve Wong, wherever you are). No, we didn’t have a spread quite like in the photo: there were only two of us. But we had the best.

Then we went to a movie, The Voyage of the Damned, and afterward to my softball team’s hangout, Sam’s Bar & Grill. Somewhere along the way, Patty mentioned the ancient Medes’ capital city, Ecbatana. That’s when I knew I was in love. You can’t easily find a woman who knows about Ecbatana.

All of these places that I’ve mentioned are now one with Ecbatana, but we’re still together. And tonight we hope to take a leisurely spin around town to admire everybody’s Christmas lights.

School Tax Potlatch: $1 Billion Up in Smoke

See the source image

Long ago, big shots among certain Pacific Northwest nations had a custom called the potlatch, in which the giver demonstrated his wealth, power, and prestige by giving away fantastic quantities of, like, everything–or even simply burning up stuff so everyone could see that he had stuff to burn.

We don’t have the potlatch anymore, but we do have school budgets, which are almost the same thing.

I missed this the first time around, four years ago, but Michelle Malkin revisited it today in her column: the time the Los Angeles school district potlatched $1 billion–yeah, we said “a billion dollars”–to buy iPads for the kiddies (https://townhall.com/columnists/michellemalkin/2018/12/26/beware-silicon-valley-santas-in-the-schools-n2538037). The iPads came pre-loaded with Common Core crapola and “an onslaught of online ads.”

Did the kids get a billion dollars’ worth of smarter? In a word, no. They did get kind of tired of having their faces glued to a screen every waking moment.

But “educators” haven’t learned their lesson, Malkin says, and Big Tech is taking full advantage of educators’ wooden-headedness, showering public schools with a mass of shiny hi-tech toys–this at a time when at least some researchers are beginning to wonder if it’s really, truly such a good thing to have kids staring at a computer screen all day instead of playing, running around, and being normal.

A billion bucks–hot dog! The people of Los Angeles had to work for that money. It was their money. They earned it. Then the government–in this case the city educational authorities–took it and pissed a billion dollars of it into a fan.

Let me leave you with this thought: Kill public education, and leftism dies.
