Funny Armadillos (with atrocious “music”)

Armadillos are cool, funny, and we don’t get a chance to see much of them–well, not up here in New Jersey, we don’t.

To enhance your enjoyment of this video, turn off the sound track. I am sure I never heard worse… music? can I call this garbage music?… in my life. Don’t even think about it getting better as it goes on.

We Still Need to Laugh

Lord Emsworth Acts for the Best: The Collected Blandings Short ...

Well, that last post snuffed out my little flicker of optimism. On to something different!

A good laugh helps us keep our sanity. Lord Emsworth Acts for the Best, by P.G. Wodehouse, is one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. Just thinking about it begins to raise my spirits.

It’s a collection of stories featuring the addled mind of Clarence, Lord Emsworth, and his batty neighbors and relations. The stories are full of gems like this:

“There was a sharp clicking noise in the darkness. It was caused by Angela’s upper front teeth meeting her lower front teeth; and was followed by a sort of wordless exhalation. It seemed only too plain that the love and respect which a niece should have for an uncle were in the present instance at a very low ebb.”

When the central character of the stories owns “an IQ some 30 points below that of an absent-minded jellyfish” (Wodehouse was being charitable), all sorts of odd things happen. The earl is aided and abetted in creating ridiculous situations by his domineering sister, Constance, and his scatterbrained wastrel of a son, Freddie.

As gorgeous and as loony as the humor in these stories is, it’s never mean, never nasty. That was the author’s gift: we love these goofy characters in spite of their incurable goofiness. It’s not a flattering picture of the English upper class, but it’s not exactly the Three Stooges throwing pies, either. It’s just unique.

See? I feel better now! And so will you, if you visit the earl at Blandings Castle.

Oh–and the BBC Blandings series, based on the books, is screamingly funny, too.

Democrats: Riots = Progress

Trump meets with Barr, state police leaders after weekend of riots ...

The masks might not protect you from the virus, but they will make it harder to identify you.

Did I really say, “Is it possible that some degree of normalcy might return to the Democrat Party?”

Uh… no. The answer is no. It’s not possible. They’re too far down the road to crazy to turn back.

This quote from the Fairfax Democrats in Virginia says it all:

“Riots are an integral part of this country’s march to progress.” (https://americanpriority.com/news/fairfax-county-democrats-call-riots-part-of-this-countrys-march-towards-progress-update-tweet-deleted/)

They published this Tweet on Monday and very quickly deleted it when they realized people had seen it. But they said it. Coast-to-coast riots were shattering our country, and they called it “progress.”

Do we really want to know what they mean by “progress”? Progress toward what?

And millions of people in November are going to vote for it. That’s appalling. Do they know, or care, what they’ll be voting for? I don’t know which answer is worse, “yes” or “no.”

God have mercy on us if we don’t defeat them in November. Because they won’t.

P.S.–Wordpress won’t let me post the picture of the riot. The line that appears there has nothing to do with anything. It’s supposed to be a picture. Fap to computers.

‘Why on Earth am I so Hopeful?’

SpaceX Rocket Launch Lights Up The California Sky, Freaks Out Some ...

I’m not that good at optimism, but I recognize the need to inject a note of it into the conversation. So I’m going to let Alicia Colon do it for me, in her essay for The American Thinker:

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/06/why_on_earth_am_i_so_hopeful.html

Ms. Colon is persuaded that “we will come back as a country stronger than ever,” with tighter family bonds and “excellent economic data” to come. “I remain optimistic that we are a better people since the coronavirus hit the globe.” This is not twaddle: some of our neighbors have done really nice things for us lately, and I hope we will always be ready to return the favor.

We do have the riots, just now; but the silver lining to this is that by now even some Democrats realize that this schiff has got to stop and those responsible for it have got to be put out of business. Is it possible that some degree of normalcy might return to the Democrat Party? What good news that would be! We could send our food-tasters home.

Finally, for Ms. Colon, the successful launch and rendezvous with the space station by the privately-financed rocket sent up by Elon Musk–this achievement, she said, brought tears to her eyes. At last, something to cheer about!

O Lord our God! Have pity on our country: lead us through the door of repentance and turn us back to you! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Trying to Catch Up!

atheist | Atheist Dave

If you follow this blog very closely, you may have been wondering, “Hey, where did Lee go? He posts a hymn and a best-of, and then disappears?”

Well, yeah! I had to confer with my doctor via telephone–they don’t want you in the office unless it’s really necessary; and I don’t want to pick up even a little COVID-19 Chicom Death Virus–and then I have to go into the stores for all our errands because Patty has COPD and can’t breathe if she wears a mask. Next thing you know, it’s 11:30.

It’s going to rain, I want to get a bit of my new book written before it does, I want to add another post or two, and I’ve got an article to write for Chalcedon… Oy, Rodney! How to catch up?

Meanwhile, everywhere you go around here there’s a sign on the door, you can’t go in unless you’ve got a face mask, BY ORDER OF the Police, due to GOVERNOR’S MANDATE… What the devil? “By Order of the Police”? Did we wake up in North Korea? And what are all these blanking “Mandates”?

Whatever happened to laws? You know–publicly debated, publicly voted on by our chosen representatives, signed by our elected executive. Do we just not do “laws” anymore?

I don’t think the word “mandate” is found anywhere in the Constitution.

‘Memory Lane: Shoe Stores’ (2017)

Back when you could make sure they fit before you bought ’em…

A few of you live in states where they still have shoe stores. Count your blessings! My little home town used to have two shoe stores right here on Main Street. Now we have none.

Memory Lane: Shoe Stores

Somehow all the “progress” we’ve made in our town consists of losing things we’d rather not lose–bookstore, shoe stores, pet shop, stationery stores, and (heaven help us!) both our hardware stores–and replacing them with trendy little boutiques and dance studios that go belly-up in just a few weeks.

You’d think that people living in such a prosperous country as ours could at least buy shoes that fit.

But then it remains to be seen whether our prosperity can come back from the Chinese Wuhan Death Virus. Maybe the Democrats and socialists have finally got their wish, and America’s great days are over.

Gone the way of the shoe store.

‘There’s No Disappointment in Heaven’

Here’s another hymn I’ve never heard before–There’s No Disappointment in Heaven, sung by the Antrim Mennonite Choir. I doubt there’s nooze in heaven, either.

Background sets by God the Father.

Kittens Conquer the Stairs

Can you remember the first time you went up the stairs–on your own? I remember the first time I fell down the stairs, but the first time going up… lost in the mists of time.

Here are kittens trying to climb the stairs for the first time. Their mother’s up at the top, so they can see her. And one by one, they manage it–except for this last little kitten who looks like maybe he won’t make it.

Tune in to find out if he finally does.

Have I Just Been Given a Sign?

I was sitting outside this afternoon, writing my Newswithviews column for the week–a column about my new book, His Mercy Endureth Forever, and my Bell Mountain series in general.

I was just finishing the work when I chanced to look up: and what did I see?

A beautiful, graceful, full-grown deer trotting across the yard, only 30 or 40 feet away from my chair. She vanished around the corner of the house next door, and when I walked over to see where she was headed, I saw no sign of her. I don’t know where she went.

I took it as a sign that God was nigh, and He wanted me to know that: for which I give Him thanks.

What’s in the Box?

Two more pet food companies sever ties with Chewy.com - South ...

As I was trying to get myself back on schedule today, I chanced to look out the window just in time to see a delivery man coming with… another box from Chewy.

I had to bring it in and unpack it. Oof! Too heavy to pick up. Too big and awkward. What’s in it–a dead body? Great start to a mystery novel, The Cat-Food Killings. With Hercule Poirot going totally mad from all the cat hair on his clothes.

Open the box to find out what’s in it! (Just like Obamacare!) Hot dog, another half a dozen big bags of cat litter. I’m sure we have enough to fill our bathtub now. Plus a few cartons of canned food and three sleeves of Fancy Feast. Now all I have to do is find places to put them.

How many cats do they think we have? Really, there are only two.

And now it’s after 1:00. Get to work, you!
