We’ve had crazy times in our country before. When the Chalcedon Foundation was founded in 1965, we were only halfway through those crazy Sixties and it was going to get much worse before it got better.
But we, as Christian reconstructionists, take the long view.
In Mark Rushdoony’s new essay, The Path Forward, we see there are no quick fixes, no short-term answers. We have to rebuild Christian civilization and culture even as the bad guys are doing everything they can to tear it down.
The belief that must sustain us is this: Jesus Christ is Lord of heaven and earth now. Not tomorrow, not next year, not a hundred years hence–but now. He is Lord now. And as such His victory is certain.
And we want to be in that number, when the saints go marching in!
Today’s worldly culture, says this Chalcedon editorial, “resents any call to moral accountability… It is the culture of death. We must separate ourselves from it by affirming the culture of life, Christianity.”
It’s a glorious calling! We serve a glorious King, and His Kingdom will not fail.
So the kids can’t sing “Lord Jesus.” It can only be “little baby Jesus.” To make it more inclusive. So as not to express any Christian content to Muslims, Hindus, atheists, or people who worship trapdoor spiders.
But if Jesus is only a little baby, and not Lord of anything, then what the dickens are we celebrating? The birth of a nice guy? If Jesus is not the Christ, if He is not the Lord of lords and King of kings, then why do Christmas at all? As C.S. Lewis explained, if Christ is not who and what He says He is, then He is either a liar or a lunatic. And why should such a one be celebrated?
The more “inclusive” you try to make something, the more you thin it out–until whatever meaning it had has been diluted out of existence.
The nooze story quotes some angry parents, but apparently they’re not angry enough so that school big shots need have any fear of them.
But that’s how public servants become the masters of the public: when they lose their fear of the people.
Humanism is dying, as we can see by its fervent embrace of such cruel follies as abortion, sexual anarchy, socialism, censorship, assisted suicide, and the incessant growth of government. There is no leftist project that does not bear the stink of death.
This Chalcedon editorial, published today, meets this crisis head-on.
Christians do know what they’re against, but they’re not so clear about knowing what they’re for. This is what needs to be changed.
We do need “a new civilization,” founded on God’s law and God’s word; and the good news is that we, all of us, can start building one now. Right now. New schools, a re-commitment to the family, new science, and new churches. New everything.
We pray that God will equip us for our service to Christ’s Kingdom.
Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
This is why all the wannabe rulers of the world hate Him. It’s even why their pet academics teach defenseless college students that there’s no such thing as truth–there’s only “your truth” and “my truth,” and somehow the professor’s “truth” always wins.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the only ruler whose right is absolute, God-given. As far back as David’s time, three thousand years ago, we are told as much in the Psalms. “The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool” (Ps. 110:1). God has promised to put all things under His Son, whose right it is.
Global government types don’t want to hear that! It’s their right, not His! Because they’re so much smarter than us, so much better connected, so much richer–and who is this crucified Jew, to intrude on their turf?
They’ll find out who He is, in God’s good time.
Christ Jesus is the truth, the Word of God made flesh. He has the power to make us free. We are the sheep of His pasture: to the Godless rulers, we are only prey.
Our King is righteous and loving. The Son and the Father are one. God has the power to make His enemies His footstool, and He will do it.
This is the only world government authorized by God. It’s the only one that will be permitted. The Antichrist will set up something that looks like it’s just about there, but it will never get there. He will come close to wiping out liberty forever–but then it’s into the lake of fire with him.
President *Batteries Not Included just couldn’t wait to give up America’s practical control of the Internet; and on Sept. 30, that’s exactly what he did, when he permitted the agreement to expire between the United States and the non-profit organization that administers the Internet, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
Because statist secular humanists believe that “a world run by science and technology is better than any other form of governance.”
Professing themselves to be wise, they become fools.
Yo, Sunshine! You want a world run by science and technology? Well, who will run the science and technology?
The same bunch who run things today–fools, thieves, liars, murderers, and hypocrites: sinners all.
And your idea is so worn-out, so long discredited, so stale, so old! It was past its sell-by date when Plato trotted it out for his Republic: government by the experts, the wise, the smartest people in the world, rule by philosopher-kings. And then you get the philosopher-king and its turns out to be just another dunderhead or psychopath–like Nero, Stalin, Mao Tse-tung, or the cabal of thieves hanging out at the UN these days. I mean, this was crapola when Woodrow Wilson spouted it, and it has not improved with age.
But this is where your theology always leads you, once you discard belief in Original Sin and reliance on God’s sovereign grace.
Let this be our battle cry in years to come: We have a greater King than Caesar! And all powers of the earth shall be put under Him, and He shall reign forever and ever.
This comes from my chess buddy, Jessicafischerqueen–it’s Canadian singer Daniel Lanois performing The Maker.
Why am I posting all this music? I’m not really a music kind of guy.
Well, I’ll tell you–to me, it just feels and looks like our whole civilization’s going down the tubes, getting devoured by the ungodly and the wicked, farther down each day… and what can we do, you and I? What is there to show for our conviction, our reasoning, our rhetoric, our passion, or our works? Nor does our cleverness seem to be getting us anywhere.
We need for God to hear us. We need for Jesus Christ Our Lord to set things right. Let fire out of Heaven consume the false prophets of this age.
“Lake guns” have been around for hundreds of years and we still haven’t figured out what causes them.
These are booming noises heard over bodies of water. In 1850 James Fenimore Cooper wrote a story, “The Lake Gun,” about the mysterious boomings heard over Seneca Lake in upstate New York. But the lake guns are known from all over the world, under a variety of names.
Among the causes proposed are mini-earthquakes, sonic booms, methane gas, ghosts, UFOs, meteorites… and none of them stands up to investigation. The simple fact is, nobody knows what causes lake guns.
My wife and I used to hear them occasionally, over Barnegat Bay. The water always seemed to be unusually calm when the lake guns spoke. Elsewhere, they can be loud enough to move alarmed residents to call police.
We don’t know what they are. They’re cool, they’re a little bit scary, and we don’t know what makes them go boom.
Unraveling all the mysteries of God’s physical creation is a task that will keep us occupied for as long as human beings are on earth. We don’t know–apart from what the Bible teaches us–how non-living matter can acquire life. We don’t know how many species of insects there are.
But we do know that Jesus Christ is Lord–Lord over all we know, and Lord over all we don’t know. As we inquire into the mysteries of creation, let us remember whose creation it is.
