‘Jumping Off a Cliff’ (Mark Rushdoony)

Will you jump off that cliff? -

God doesn’t have to punish every sin; a lot of them punish themselves. Hence the title of Mark Rushdoony’s essay, Jumping Off a Cliff. The consequences of a sin, or a folly, provide the punishment.

We have pursued “a foolhardy course for several generations,” Mark writes, and by now the degradation of our culture has grown painfully obvious. It’ll take more than just elections to fix it. Whole-hearted Christian reconstruction is our only hope to repair the damage.

Even as breaking God’s laws brings on its own punishment, so does keeping them bring on its own blessing.

And we are very much in need of blessing!

Still in Computer Hell

So when I turned on the computer this morning, I found all the comments had un-approved themselves. Some of them did it again within two or three seconds of me re-approving them.

And a message from a WordPress engineer, asking “Where you been, dude? Haven’t seen you in four days.”

What??? I’ve been here, you weevil, spending hour after hour with you guys, begging and pleading for help and not getting any! I thought “engineers” were supposed to be able to fix things! What are you doing out there–flipping baseball cards? Mostly suggesting that I fix the computer problems. Then maybe later I can take out my appendix.

My last hope is my webmaster at Chalcedon, Jill. Maybe she can straighten this out.

How I’m supposed to get a novel written with all this sideshow going on is more than I know.

New from J & J: ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’

Moving on to something considerably more wholesome than the last post–

We have our dear friends and colleagues, Joshua and Jeremy Swanson, with a new hymn, Great Is Thy Faithfulness.

(I wonder how many takes they need to produce one of these videos.)

J & J, ‘What Wondrous Love Is This’

Before we gird up our loins for more nooze, we have an instrumental by our dear friends and colleagues, Joshua and Jeremy Swanson–What Wondrous Love Is This. I’ve never heard this hymn before; it just goes to show we’ll never run out of them.

R.J. Rushdoony: ‘Our Man-Centered Folly’

Top 5 Most Insane Rulers In History - YouTube

Who needs God’s word when we have rulers like these?

You can sum it up, as Rushdoony did, in just a single sentence:

“Without the God of Scripture, we have the collapse of all values into totally subjective opinions.”

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/our-man-centered-folly

He wrote that in 1995. I don’t think he’d be surprised, almost 30 years later, to see crazy governments and apostate, um, “churches” pushing “transgender” as if their lives depended on it. First they get rid of values; then they start tossing facts aside. The fact of male and female, for one. We now have a Supreme Court justice (!) who claims she doesn’t know what a woman is.

The problem with many of our totally subjective opinions is that they’re sinful, stupid, absurd, selfish, and half-baked. Other than that, they’re fine.

‘March to a Dumping Ground’ (R.J. Rushdoony)

Landfills have a huge greenhouse gas problem. Here's what we can do about it. |

No one was more on the ball than R.J. Rushdoony. The trends he analyzed in this 1976 essay were all but invisible to most observers at the time. It’s taken 50 years for us to see how right he was.

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/march-to-a-dumping-ground

You start with secular humanism, the worship of man; you get rid of Christianity, the worship of All-righteous God; and by and by, with one failure after another, your humanism slides into existentialism, into despair… and your humanism becomes anti-humanism. You also revolt against reality. Voila.

How did Rushdoony see so clearly?

Through the lens of Scripture, and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer Request: For Phoebe

Please join me in praying for our dear friend and colleague, Phoebe. Her cat, Iggy, is having a bad time of it (he recently had his 19th birthday). This kind of thing doesn’t get easier with time.

O Lord! You know how we love our pets, and they love us. You know how much it hurts us when we lose them. Please, be kind to your servant, Phoebe, and save and heal her cat. The evils of a fallen world are hard on us, Father. Please grant your blessing to your servant, Phoebe–and heal her cat. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Kristi Ann’s Haven (Christian Bloggers)

It’s been a while since we’ve paid a visit to Kristi Ann’s Haven–so let’s go over there and say hello.

https://kristiann1.com/

Lots and lots of Bible verses, and prayers. “For whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). In case we missed it in the New Testament, the prophet Joel has it for us in the Old: “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be delivered…” (Joel 2:32).

Her blog is a nice place for Christians to fellowship together.

Rushdoony: ‘Perfection Versus Maturity’

Leia Rushdoony - Home | Facebook

Before we get wrapped up in any nooze…

We consistently misunderstand what the Bible means by “perfect,” R.J. Rushdoony wrote.

https://chalcedon.edu/resources/articles/perfection-versus-maturity

“Perfect” in the Bible does not mean sinless, pure, ideal, nothin’ wrong here. No–it means “fully matured.” And it comes at the end of a long process. It’s not just imposed by self-anointed sages or a bloodthirsty political party. “Perfect” is the end result of work, planning, vision, sacrifice, and life itself. The sin of Adam and Eve can certainly be viewed as the decision to cheat and take a short cut to perfect: “Ye shall be as gods.”

So you don’t just get out of bed one day resolved to be “perfect” from now on. (Sheesh, how many of us have made that mistake?) You do the best you can and trust in God to do the rest. There is some humility involved.

If only we had some in our business and our politics!
