Liberty: An Endangered Species

File:The Assyrian king Shalmaneser III receives tribute from ...

Bowing to the Assyrian king and licking his boots: some things never change.

(All right–no nooze tips came in, but I’m back to work anyway.)

I can no longer fight off the conviction that everywhere in the world, what we know as freedom, as liberty, is under attack.

Canada. Germany. United Kingdom. It’s a long list–countries where “government” seems determined to wipe out basic freedoms. Like, let’s all go back to giving the state absolute power over us and our property. Free speech? Naah–people say the wrong things! Honest elections? Forsooth, no! Democrats would never win.

Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka… I can’t keep track.

And right here at home: Can’t beat the Republican candidate? Get him jailed! Conservatives on social media? The State has no authority to censor them–so they’ll get assorted cats’ paws to do it for ’em. “We can’t shut you up, but our friends and toadies in the corporate world can!”

Well, it never was going to be easy, was it? Rome had a republic–and they wrecked it. “Power” means power over others; and the human race is addicted to it. Every now and then something like the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights comes along and spoils their fun; but they’ll keep on attacking those principles until they wear them down.

Pray for freedom.

And work for it.

Bill of Rights? What Bill of Rights?

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy

New Jersey Gov. Phillip Murphy–who calls recreational pot-smoking “the civil rights issue of our time,” who’s hot to trot for assisted suicide–told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that a basic consideration of the Bill of Rights is “above my pay grade” (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/above-my-pay-grade-new-jersey-governor-claims-bill-of-rights-did-not-factor-into-his-coronavirus-executive-orders).

Carlson was asking him about one of his executive orders that resulted in the arrest of 15 worshipers at a synagogue–exercising their First Amendment right of free exercise of religion–and Murphy answered “[I] wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this.”

Even if you believe these executive orders are absolutely necessary to cope with a medical emergency, does it follow that the Bill of Rights is just… a luxury? Well, yeah, freedoms are okay, but it’s not like we need ’em or anything.

I mean, he could have said, “Well, of course I thought of the Bill of Rights and I didn’t take this step lightly: I was responding to an emergency. I felt I had to do it.”

We are talking elementary civics here–the kind of thing everybody used to learn in junior high school. It was not above a governor’s pay grade. The Bill of Rights is foundational to our country’s entire legal system. To ignore it, to trample on it, is to weaken all the laws. As Mr. Pot-Head Governor is duty-bound to know!

Are we going to have to go through this quarantine rigmarole every time there’s a disease on the loose, from now on? Well, that would be always, because there’s always some germ or other looking to infect us.

So that’s another thing this experience has taught us: We need to tighten up and make much more specific the rules defining what powers governors or mayors may invoke and exercise to deal with an emergency. As we have seen in several states, we just can’t trust them to make it up as they go along.

‘Kids Taught Bill of Rights is Outdated’ (2013)

Communist teachers–totally in charge

Another full year of educational malpractice has begun. Ready for some Far Left Crazy, boys ‘n’ girls? Oops, sorry! I should’ve said “purple penguins.” There’s no such thing as boys or girls.

For our first lesson, class, we’ll talk about getting rid of pieces of the Bill of Rights! You don’t really need all those silly rights, do you?

Kids Taught Bill of Rights is Out of Date

They should stop calling it “public education.” The only thing public about it is our taxes. We, the undefended public, have no say in who gets to teach, or what they teach, or how much to pay for it. We just pay. And let the teachers’ unions indoctrinate our kids.

When the bill for this comes due, it’ll be high. Very, very high.

A Referendum on the Bill of Rights?

See the source image

Moving up in the polls!

An obscure candidate for the 2020 Democrat presidential nomination, children’s book publisher Kay Lastima, wants to hold a binding national referendum on the Bill of Rights. Ms. Lastima is so far back in the pack, she leads only New York Mayor “Bill DeBlasio” (not his real name) in the race for the nomination.

But her call for a referendum on the Bill of Rights already has most of the other candidates leaping aboard the bandwagon.

“Let’s face it!” she told CNN last night. “Some of those old, outmoded provisions in the Bill of Rights need to be voted off the island! One thing I’ve learned in my business–either you keep up with the times, or the times will keep up with you!”

Ms. Lastima’s publishing company, Fat-Head Books, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year after its most ambitious book, Babies Like Getting Aborted, failed to sell a single copy. She currently lives with her mother at the Tie-Dee-Bole Adult Community in Earwig Cove, Florida.

“Look how they’re all following my lead already!” she said. “Bernie, Beto, Liz, Kamala, Spartacus, and even boring old Uncle Joe–they all agree with me that the whole Bill of Rights should be scrapped and then replaced with something better. But I’m the only one who already has the Southern Poverty Law Center drawing up replacement rights! Who needs a right to free speech, when you’ve got a right to free cable TV? Who needs a right to bear arms, when you’ve got a right to a free college degree in Gender Studies? Out with the old, in with the new!”

Appearing on CNN last night, Ms. Lastima wore a “Your Country Sucks!” T-shirt and an Annunaki hat made from half a volleyball.

Rove: Repeal 2nd Amendment

From out of the rotting underbelly of the Republican Party crawls Bush strategist Karl Rove, a “conservative” who conserves nothing, to suggest on TV recently that the only way to stop gun violence in America is to repeat the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights ( http://dailycaller.com/2015/06/21/karl-rove-only-way-to-stop-the-violence-is-to-repeal-2nd-amendment/ ).

But, he added wistfully, “That’s not going to happen.”

Rove joins the usual gang of libs ‘n’ progs who think disarming the American people is going to make them safer, and that criminals, confronted with a total gun ban, will just snarl “Curses, foiled again!” and just forget to obtain guns illegally.

Be careful–it’s not just the Second Amendment that our beloved rulers want to take out. Obviously the First Amendment is on their hit list, big-time. And all the others, by and by.

You see, they view the Bill of Rights as something that gets in their way every time they want to do anything really sweet for the American people, like Saving the Planet or Creating a Utopia.

Dude! That’s precisely what it’s for–to get in your way!

But if we don’t defend those rights–well, they don’t intend to let us keep them. No way they’re gonna let us keep them.

Words That Don’t Mean What You Think They Mean

As I rode my bike this morning, I reflected on a few truisms that took me a long time to acquire. I offer them now as a quickie course in understanding our times.

No one goes home poor from Capitol Hill.

When our ruling class talks about our “rights”, they only mean a supposed right to fornicate. Those actually enumerated in the Bill of Rights, they despise and can’t wait to abolish.

When the mayor of your town, the governor of your state, or the high panjandrum of your country describes a project or a policy as “smart,” what he really means is that he and his cronies will make a bundle on it while the public has to live with the consequences.

When they talk about “choice,” they mean only choices that they themselves would make. All others are to be forbidden if possible, or at least made a cause for mockery and persecution.

When they tell you that they want “diversity,” don’t bother to consult a dictionary. To leftids, the word means a strictly enforced uniformity of opinion and behavior. But of course if you didn’t already know that, what hope is there for you?

3 Mass Shootings Gun Laws Didn’t Stop

Has anybody noticed the total abject failure of gun control laws, especially in the past few news cycles? Three examples spring to mind.

*The high-profile “Planned Parenthood shooting” in Colorado

*The mass shooting at San Bernardino, California, at a facility for disabled adults

*In New Orleans, a shooting at a playground left 17 children wounded. That no one was killed outright was not the shooter’s fault.

So who did these shootings?

Colorado: A kook who lived alone in a shack in the woods, and once identified himself as a woman. He looks kind of like the Unabomber, if you remember him.

California: A Muslim and his Muslim wife, and a third shooter who has not yet been identified.

New Orleans: Gangs, of course. The first suspect arrested and charged is a 32-year-old career criminal whose rap sheet includes any number of violent crimes. ( http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/11/29/new-orleans-park-shooting-suspect-held/76547580/ ) I have linked to a USA Today article because for some reason which I’m sure you can’t possibly imagine, most of the nooze media haven’t been talking about this one.

What do we learn from these shootings?

Lunatics do not obey gun control laws.

Muslims who wish to kill the infidel do not obey gun laws.

Career criminals do not obey gun laws. In fact, they don’t obey laws, period.

History lesson: The purpose of the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights, the right to bear arms, is to protect the American people from their government, should it ever have tyrannical designs.

Oh, well, we know that will never happen, don’t we?

Gun laws only disarm the peaceable and law-abiding. The killers among us ignore them.

Right, Chicago?
