This Blog’s on Fire!

I wish this heavy rain would let up, so I can walk to the post office and get a mailer for Phoebe’s book (I need the exercise). But meanwhile–

Yesterday, for the first time ever, we had over 400 views on this blog for the third day in a row–never happened before. And it’s off to a good start this morning, too. Thank you, readers! And thank you, Christian bloggers, who don’t mind me reblogging some of your posts. You’re welcome to reblog any of mine.

All this, mind you, with my Facebook referrals stripped away. In January, for instance, I had over 700 of them. Now there aren’t any. That I’m doing very well without any help from Facebook is a source of great satisfaction to me.

I look forward today to spending some hours editing the copy for Bell Mountain No. 12, His Mercy Endureth Forever. I was going to go to Keyport in my newly-repaired car to pick up some of the best seafood in America at the Keyport Fishery, but I’d rather not drive on the Parkway when it’s raining.

Ooh-ooh! Is that the sun out there?

‘It Takes a Collective to Raise Your Child’ (2013)

Don’t you wish I were just making this up? I do!

Please don’t think these people have gone away, just because we’ve got Donald Trump in the White House.

They still want to puree our civilization.

It Takes a Collective to Raise Your Child!

One of the things Far Left Crazy has been trying to do for the last hundred years is wipe out the family and replace it with God knows what. The Soviet Union has fallen, and Red China is more fascist than communist–but American commies are still on board the program.

We are never more than one election away from them taking over for good.

My Newswithviews Column, May 23 (‘It’s War, All Right’)

‘No hay pan’ is “We have no bread” in Spanish: Venezuelan slang for ‘Ain’t socialism wonderful?’

Remember what Sun Tzu said, in The Art of War: “On death ground, fight.”

It’s War, All Right

Far Left Crazy means to wipe out Christian America, and won’t let up until it does. The culture war is still on, it’s deadly serious, and Christian America has to win or Christian America dies. It’s that simply.

And never mind being “winsome”!

The time for that is after we’ve won a total victory and the Democrat Party has been forever consigned to the landfill of history.

‘Christ Shall Have Dominion’

Anti-Christian fanatics will hate this hymn, so play it proud and play it loud–Christ Shall Have Dominion, sung by the congregation at Grace Community Church in San Antonio, Texas. And you already know the melody, so here are the lyrics, too.

Cats Who Make the Best of Things

Cats are very smart–smart enough so that they try to understand things like printers, washing machines, and metronomes that can’t possibly have any relevance to them. In this they resemble human beings.

That’s why, when you watch a cat trying to figure something out, you can almost hear the wheels turning in his head.

My Favorite Chess Openings

See the source image

The thing that bugs me about chess books is that they tell you how to play a certain kind of opening, but almost never tell you why. They don’t tell you what the opening is intended to do.

I don’t want to bore those of you who don’t play chess, so I’ll keep this brief. These are a couple of my favorite openings, and I’m going to tell you why I play them. You can go just about anywhere and find out how to play them.

The King’s Gambit is the chess equivalent of slamming open the swinging doors of the saloon and offering to shoot it out, here and now, with the toughest gunslinger there. It leads to a lively game.

The Polish Opening, aka ‘the Orang-utang,’ looks to most opponents like a very stupid first move that no one but a rank beginner would make. It’s much stronger than it looks, and much of its strength comes from convincing your opponent to think you’re a patsy. I beat a regional champion with it once.

(Uh, Lee, people in the audience are starting to check their wristwatches…)

Philidor’s Defense makes you, playing Black, look timorous; but if you know what you’re doing, this opening can help you to take the offensive much sooner than your opponent expected.

(I will be amazed if anybody reads this, likes it, or comments on it. Am I absolutely sure I want to do this?)

The Weeping Willow: Sigh deeply, dab your eyes with a handkerchief, blow your nose–and then break into sobs. When your opponent asks what’s wrong, make a show of holding it back, but then cut loose with a story that the doctor has just told you that you have only a few more weeks to live, and it would mean so much to you if you could just win a few chess games before the Grim Reaper shows up at your bedside… “And I guess I’ll never find out what happened when my house burned down with everybody in it, even my tropical fish, and then the insurance company wouldn’t pay–but never mind, I shouldn’t have burdened you with my troubles…” And so on.

Remember, chess is supposed to be fun.

NYT Honcho: Almost All Newspapers Will Be Dead in 5 Years

See the source image

Clark Gable and Doris Day in “Teacher’s Pet”–never mind journalism school, watch this movie instead!

The New York Fake Nooze Times executive editor predicts virtually all local newspapers will be extinct in five years (https://www.fastcompany.com/90353613/nyts-dean-baquet-most-local-newspapers-will-die-in-5-years).

Predicting “the death of local news,” the editor said, “Their economic model is gone.” Newspapers generally survive by selling space to advertisers. Subscriptions are never more than a rather small piece of any newspaper’s income. But the advertising revenue, the editor said, “continues to plummet.”

And by and by, “I don’t know what the model is for covering the school boards in Newark, New Jersey…”

If you don’t know that, maybe you shouldn’t be an editor.

I was an editor. And a reporter. I know how to cover school boards. You have to cover them in such a way that people will read the reports; and then local advertisers, when they become convinced that the people who do business with them are reading your paper, will want to buy ad space in your paper.

You need reporters who are knowledgeable, honest, competent, and fair–ditto editors who fit that description. They need to produce news which people can trust–not just the readers, but the people who are making the local news: school boards, town councils, out-of-power politicians, the administrator who runs the sewage treatment plant. Sources won’t answer questions honestly, may not answer them at all, if they think the reporter will treat them unfairly. You’d be amazed what people will tell you, if they’re convinced you’re fair.

And getting the facts is never as easy as it looks. That’s why you need intelligent people, not just brain-dead left-wing ideologues, staffing your newspaper. Not numbskulls who learned all about Social Justice and Climbit Change in college.

I worked for a very successful local weekly newspaper.

And the one guy we got from a hoity-toity school of journalism couldn’t report worth a damn, and had to be let go. Give me sharp-as-tacks middle-aged women who live in the town they cover, and always know who to talk to. Give me nosy high school kids who will ask the questions I tell them to ask, and then ask more.

Give me these, and my local newspaper will not go extinct. It’ll report the news. And people will know it really is the news, and not just some cod-headed Social Justice Warrior spouting ignorance.

New Army Uniforms, ‘Old’ Look

The U.S. Army has approved new dress uniforms which will be ready next year, “The Army Times” has reported. And here’s what they’ll look like.

Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey and four soldiers in Army Greens prototypes show off the uniforms Feb. 1, 2018, on Capitol Hill (U.S. Army)

Hey! They look like World War II uniforms! Well, yes–they’re patterned after World War II uniforms.

Under the disastrous control of President *Batteries Not Included, the U.S. military was a social engineering lab for trying out assorted new variants of weird sexual behavior and atheism, never mind defending the country. Remember how they had ROTC cadets marching around in ladies’ red shoes? Remember how they court-martialed chaplains… for being, well, chaplains?

Well, Dr. Obamastein and Igor are out of office now, and President Trump is trying to bring the Army back to where it ought to be. Connecting with history and tradition, via these uniforms, is part of the cure.

Please, people, please! Don’t ever let Democrats get their hands on our military ever again!

‘Idiot: Nancy Drew Will Be “Diverse”‘ (2016)

When something ain’t broken, don’t fix it!

The good news is that this wretched little scheme fell through before it could be imposed on us. The bad news, of course, is that it was ever thought of in the first place.

Idiot: New Nancy Drew Will Be ‘Diverse’

I looked it up. You wanna know why the “new Nancy Drew” never made it to the airwaves. According to TV bigwigs, it was because Nancy Drew was… “too female”!

Give me strength.

How badly did we need another TV s**tcom about hard-bitten New York cops?

And what in the world did that mental Lilliputian mean by promising that Nancy Drew herself would be “diverse”? Clearly he does not know what the word means.

There’s a lot of that going around.
